I wanted to share this photo of my wife's step-father Bob. He passed away a few days ago after a two decade fight with cancer. He was a tough SOB and when I asked him if he knew any Rush licks he belted out the opening of Working Man like he had been playing it all his life. Rest in peace, man, your fight is finished.

This is what I do in the winter., when I'm not working in NYC.. I live in the east so days like this are few and far between.

Beautiful! :D-13: Here in the Sierras were in the midst of a gnarly drought. No powder in sight...only man made stuff keeping the hills open. Silver lining? I'm golfing tomorrow.

A couple of years ago I took my daughter to the Tomatina in Reno...it's a huge tomato fight modeled on the one in Spain.

It's a good idea to wear goggles...

The event itself is just like you'd imagine...hot, slimy and stinky...but great fun!

Actually the photo with Dream Theater was a bit of a disappointment...the guys in the band didn`t seem to care much for the fans who paid a huge amount of money for a meet & greet package. Look at James LaBrie´s "I couldn`t be bothered" face!

Also, I gave John Petrucci and Mike Mangini two CDs of bands from friends of mine, told them the bands were from Rio and all that, and they left the CDs at the table! I had to insist with some girl in productin to get the CDs to them - which she will NOT do, of course. This other guy brought drum sticks he picked from Mangini around 10 years ago when he played at the same venue with Steve Vai, and when he told Mangini that he said "ok. So where do you want me to sign it?"

This should not ve called "meet & greet", it´s more like "meet and get a cold shoulder". Why organizing this type of event when the band is so uncomfortable with it?

Well, I could tell the look on LaBrie's face! Not to defend the band (of which I'm not a fan), but maybe even they have to put up with a lot of "merchandise obsessed" fans that just want signs and photos and when, once in a while, they meet an actual fan, like you, that just wants to share something with them, they come off unprepared. Just a thought.

Hadn't thought about it this way, H.P.L. That may well be the case. Have you had a look at the meet & greet photos with Geddy and Alex that pop up in the forum every now and then? Completely different attitude!

Oh yeah, I look at them all (I chance I don't think I'll ever get). Geddy and Alex are total pros and care for their fans.

Petrucci looks excited at least

I think DT are a perfect example of the difference between a band that came from a trained, schooled background, and one that dogged it out playing clubs ..not that bands from the dogged it out scene arent dicks as well, but i think for the most part, bands that come from that background tend to be a bit more down to earth

Me with Dream Theater in Pamplona last Friday:

f***ing A, man.

Sweet action! Funny, in my Tomatina pics I'm wearing my Pamplona shirt. So, I imagine the show was great. How was the rest of your time in the Basque Country?

Hey man...the shows went amazingly well. The rest of the trip was great, albeit a bit lonely. My wife is pregnant and could not join me, but we decided I should take the trip anyway because I was so tired from work last year, and desperately needed a break and a change of pace. Madrid was great, I visited a lot of museums and took a chance to go to the historical city of Toledo. I didn´t get much time in Pamplona, so I went for a quick walk around the city - where I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Narpet´s doppelganger Jordan Rudess.

The next day I was off on train to Barcelona, which is such a gorgeous city! Gaudí´s amazing work is all over the place, and it´s such a feast for the eyes! I was planning also a day trip to Montserrat, but found out the tourist agencies only did this trip on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I only had Wednesda left... . Maybe next time...

I´m back home in Rio now, completely reenergized and relaxed. It was totally worth taking 10 das off in a new environment! Now it´s time to prepare for the baby...she´ll be with us in late June, just in time to watch the World Cup Finals with us!
