Well, "The Who" are playing the Super Bowl. Zack Starkey, son of Ringo is playing drums with them. Taught by Keith (if you call it teaching! smile.gif ), he was given Keith's white Premier kit with gold hardware by Keith himself...only to lose it year later. He says he has no idea where it is now and that when he did have it, he moved it around in the back of a truck and did not even have cases for it! ohmy.gif Can you imagine!?

So is Zack the drummer for the gig? Keith was such a huge influence on drumming. Will kids watching the Super Bowl realize that Zack is not the original drummer?

Im honestly not familiar with the playing of Starkey with The Who. I havnt been following them much. I know he sort of emulates Moons style, so ive heard.

Im not sure Palmer and Jason would fit well with the music of The Who.

I could see Simon sounding good.

I like Zak a lot. I saw him live last year and he is a good player. He does play loose like Keith but he still keeps it somewhat tight. I think he his a good fit for the band right now.

I think most people wont realize that he isn't the original drummer mainly because the majority of the people stopped following The Who after Moon died. Or a majority of the people don't pay attention to line ups and personel like I do.

For example, I realized it was a mistake to take my girlfriend to a Van Halen concert when it took her half the show to realize the 15year old boy on bass was not only not an original member, but Ed's son.

Believe it or not, I went with Zak, I think Moonie would be okay with it and be cool with the band carrying on without him. He is an okay drummer and does a good job and plays with the right spirit. Kenney Jones was not the right man (Daltrey even said so) and Simon Phillips was really too good for The Who.

I am glad however that they carried on without Moon because at least I got to see the other 3.

Will kids watching the Superbowl even know who The Who are? No.

It doesn't matter though...most folks will be loading up on snacks and such during halftime anyways.

Hope they perform well. I always liked The Who.

Some bands don't know how to quit when they're ahead. The Who have benn revived about as many times as Keith Richards has done "blood transfusions."

Dave Grohl

Not a bad pick.

I saw Nirvana once on New Year's Eve in South San Francisco at the Cow Palace.

After their set Nirvana pulled The Who stunt. Smashing guitars and of course Dave destroyed his kit like Keith Moon.

I just saw Dave play in Them Crooked Vultures. He has the intensity like Keith.

Great call. trink39.gif
