  1. Power Windows is now my favorite Rush album as a result of hearing it live. I listen to it in full at least twice a week. Grand Designs is one of Rush's best.
  2. And don't think getting to know these songs is going to be a chore. We'd kill to be able to have the experience of hearing them for the first time again! Soak it all in, the technicality of their music that you already love them for is present in every single song. Find some songs you love!
  3. QUOTE (Mara @ Sep 7 2012, 10:33 PM) One thing I have not seen mentioned. . .did Neil in fact scrap the big band part of his solos(s)? If so. . .'bout time. It was fun and cool for a tour or two, but I am ready for it to retire. (And I'm about the biggest Neilophile around). Small sections of the solo were spread in 3 parts throughout the show. Acoustic solo in Where's My Thing, acoustic solo in Headlong Flight, and electronic solo somewhere late in the 2nd set.
  4. QUOTE (DBJetsman @ Sep 7 2012, 11:12 PM) That's the most bulls*** setlist I've ever seen. 4 songs from PoW (ONE OF THERE WORST ALBUMS EVER) and not even the best one (Marathon)? 2 songs from Signals and Moving Pictures: REALLY??? They are complete dumbasses and will never ever be the greatest band ever... My dad now doesn't even want to go anyone because the setlist is a giant pile of s*** Have some respect you son of a bitch.
  5. That first set was absolutely amazing. For a hardcore fan, it song after song of "they'd never play this, but man it would be cool." Completely blown away. Clockwork was like watching a different band. It was very fascinating to hear how new this album is for them, it really didn't sound like anything else all night. I seriously can't get over how incredible the first set was. Grand Designs, Territories, The Body Electric???? Unreal!
  6. QUOTE (presto123 @ Sep 7 2012, 10:49 PM) QUOTE (iluvgeddy05 @ Sep 7 2012, 10:47 PM) Just got back from Manchester. I feel like they picked my younger brain and said "yes, let's play those songs" Unbelievable! I'm in love. I was dying with the first set with pure joy and shock. Plus, it included and impromptu drum solo in the middle of Where's my Thing which was awesome!! The strings were a really nice compliment and not weird or overbearing. Tons of new pyro and lighting tricks Tad disappointed in the encore but definitely a crowd favorite. IT WAS SO GOOD. Were people getting emotional during The Garden? I certainly was. Ged introduced it as "a song very near and dear to us." Alex played the piano section and the strings were perfect. Definitely a highlight.
  7. If you're just talking theoretically, it would be such a kickass opener! I wish it was a real popular song just so it could open a show.
  8. QUOTE (JohnnyBlaze @ Aug 11 2012, 04:26 AM) Playing any of the songs mentioned wouldn't be out of the realm of possible. However, it'd be mere coincidence (albeit a big one) if it did happen. Geddy & Lifeson had nothing to do with the creation of the book but (obviously) have a huge say in what's on the setlist. The most sensible answer.

    Realization

I got to thinking about the boys and how long they've been around and it hit me: they've kept going because they know how talented they are. So many bands lose interest because they're wells run dry and they try to squeeze out more juice than they have. Rush knows that they're well is nearly bottomless they keep proving it, it's like a god damn miracle. They're this unbelievable combination of talent and the best part is that they know it. They realize how important they're talents are and they relish in it. What a cool f'ing band.
  10. I'm all for making connections but this feels a little reachy.

    BU2B2

I did the same exact thing, it bothered me a little that it wasn't set up that way originally. It feels out of place.
  12. This is great! Well done, I love it.
  13. Never understood condescending thread replies. If you don't hear it or disagree then don't respond, go to another thread.

    Bernie Grundman

QUOTE (third hand grace @ Jun 12 2012, 09:44 PM) For people who struggle with hearing "sound quality" maybe this will help them? I'm assuming you have seen HIGH DEF tv, and remember what tv used to look like ? Well, our ears can HEAR what your eyes SEE. OR... have you ever seen a well done 3D movie and you can see the DEPTH, etc. thats our ears. Just trying to help those who honestly don't understand WHY sound quality matters to us.... thanks I wish people understood this more. People just hear differently, they're not assholes for criticizing sound quality; it could genuinely be better. Some people's ears just can't hear that.

    7 Cities

Question- Does the character actually get to the Seven Cities? Or is it an unreachable mirage and he has to turn around. It's bugging me.

I really believe some people have more sensitive ears than others to this sort of thing. To me, there are points where the music can get drowned out by this really harsh high end. I love this album and it's competing for my favorite Rush record to date, but for some, mastering can be very noticeable. If you don't hear the problems, you don't have to respond.
  17. QUOTE (A rocket that ignites itself @ Jun 12 2012, 07:02 PM) I was pleasantly surprised how nice the hard cover cd book from the fanpack is. It really is a beautiful package, compared to the average soft digipack that seems to get dinged up just by looking at it. Only downside is the lack of the band pic...odd. Bottom line, if you have the means to get the fanpack...it's well worth it. I actually liked the band picture a lot, Ged's face is kinda awkward though. Neil's looking good.
  18. I found one copy buried in Kenny Rogers. How does that even happen? Within hours of opening, someone picked up the album, decided not to get it, checked out Kenny Rogers instead, and accidentally left it there. That was the only copy too.

    Unbelievable

QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jun 12 2012, 06:17 PM) QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Jun 12 2012, 06:11 PM) I didn't bother trying to figure out the story. I just listened to the songs. same here. I started reading it as the hero writing his memoir, highlighting the various journeys of his life. I'm sure the novelization will address the specifics of characters and segues between the adventures, but I don't think that's the purpose of the album. They really blend the story, the message, and the music so perfectly.

    Unbelievable

Maybe this doesn't warrant its own thread, but holy shit this album is absolutely incredible. I just finished my first listen on the actual CD through a nice system and I am completely moved. This album took me on an unbelievable journey that seamlessly blended colorful stories, self reflection, and kickass music; I've never experienced anything like it. I am overjoyed that any band can create something this mature and progressive, and the fact that it is Rush makes me one happy guy. Thank you Rush.
