  1. I'm pretty sure I joined the site the day it launched (I was a regular on Counterparts before that) and spent a LOT of my high school years on here. A few people from those days, I'm still friends with. I still lurk here occasionally under a different name but figured I should come say hi today, although it's under awful circumstances. This is a shock. He's the greatest to ever do it.
  2. Completely shocked and devastated. This was out of nowhere.
  3. Is there a Miami date on this tour? Because we can't entirely rule out Rush announcing at the last minute that they're taking their video-recording talents to South Beach instead.
  4. I caught the pilot episode of Boardwalk tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely keep watching.
  5. What I wouldn't be opposed to: waiting until 2012 to release anything on DVD and putting together a 2-disc "Past & Future" package, with the first disc being the Time Machine tour and the second disc being the Clockwork Angels tour. Maybe release the CD version of Time Machine in the meantime.
  6. QUOTE (rocketom @ Aug 28 2010, 06:22 PM) If they release the Time Machine tour on cd/dvd along with Clockwork Angels they would only need to sell about 250k copies to make it platnium. Then they would get good publicity about having a platnium cd which could lead to further sales. I'm betting on a deluxe edition cd/dvd edition like Journey had a couple of years ago. I'd be very disappointed if they sunk to the level of Foreigner or Journey, basically admitting that nobody wants to hear their new material and that the only way to get anyone to buy it is by cutting a deal with Wal-Mart or Target to package it with a live album or a greatest hits. I'd like to hope Rush has more self-respect than that. No reason to believe they won't release the new live album and DVD as its own package like they have with every tour since Rio. They've done alright with that formula.
  7. You lost me with "How it Is" being this low.
  8. Last week was the best episode of the season so far. Don is back on his game and the Sally/Betty stuff was great. I don't know about the Gene theory but it's not completely implausible.
  9. Springsteen LeBrie (at this point the main reason I can't get into DT, they have some really cool stuff musically but he still sounds like a bad hair metal singer to me) The guy from Violent Femmes

  11. The other glaring hole in the Blu-ray catalog as of now is the extended LOTR trilogy. Somebody get on that.
  12. Wouldn't put it at all past Lucas to only release them in a box set. Hopefully they will give us options, because I'd buy the trilogy in a heartbeat but don't want to pay $100+ for a box set where I don't care about three of the six discs. I've still never seen Revenge of the Sith in its entirety.
  13. Just noticed there wasn't a thread for the new season of my favorite show currently on TV. I know we have at least a handful of other Mad Men fans on here. It's interesting to watch Don hit bottom in many of the same ways as Tiger Woods is simultaneously in real life. Their career/life arcs are very similar to me. I love the Glen/Sally subplot, as well as Don's night out with Lane Pryce last week. First time we really got to see Pryce come out of his shell. If you don't watch Mad Men or aren't caught up, don't read this thread. Anyone else, I'd love to have someone to discuss it with.
  14. QUOTE (danielmclark @ Aug 9 2010, 10:39 AM) Except that Battle Scar and Take Off have nothing to do with Rush as a whole. The rights reside with other parties. They don't have songs in a vault somewhere; trying to come up with extras for a re-release just won't work I'm curious - could someone explain the logistics of a 5.1 mix? I thought CDs were stereo only... is a special format required? Or do standard CDs handle 5.1 data? To get a 5.1, would they have to package both a stereo mix and a 5.1 or could a 5.1 replace the stereo pressings? CDs don't hold enough data for a 5.1 mix, unless they came out with hybrid SACDs which nobody uses anymore. What they would have to do is release it on a DVD (or Blu-ray), because those discs hold way more space than CDs. That's why I suggested packaging a CD with a stereo mix together with a DVD/Blu-ray with a 5.1 mix, to give people the option of playing whichever one they want.
  15. Here's the most likely scenario to me: *Disc 1: newly remastered CD version of the album, with relevant bonus tracks where available (for instance, they could stick "Not Fade Away" and "Can't Fight It" on the debut, "Take Off" and "Battle Scar" onto the albums from those eras, and that version of "Mission" with the full horn section that Geddy referred to in Contents Under Pressure) *Disc 2: your choice of DVD or Blu-ray containing a 5.1 mix of the album and a few video goodies (live footage from that era if available, music videos, etc.) *Actual liner essays/expanded packaging. I own all of the '97 remasters but I've had some of them for 8 years so they've gotten pretty banged up. I'd totally reinvest in the whole catalog if they did something like what I described above.
  16. Cool story. I took my 17-year-old brother who's only been a fan for about a year, and he had a blast.
  17. Best of the four Rush shows I've been to.
  18. How did it take this long for anybody to talk about the new album on here? 17 hair-metal polls were clearly more important. But the new album is great. Far better than Neon Bible.
  19. The best part of this thread is how he makes this "controversial" post, and then just bounces and lets everybody else reply to it for 4 pages without saying anything. Attention whore much? Or maybe he's just still hung over.
  20. QUOTE (VampireBiscuits @ Jul 15 2010, 02:14 PM) I can't wait to see the new season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia! If nothing else, that should keep me happy during the fall tv season. Funniest show on TV, hands down. I'm also looking forward to the new seasons of Mad Men and Community. As far as new shows, the only one that looks promising to me is Boardwalk Empire, on HBO. Scorsese directed the pilot and it apparently going to stay involved creatively.
  21. Why not just sell your tickets once they announce the rescheduled date?
