gypsy muse
At the core there's no difference between sampling music and plagiarising it. You lack musical integrity and creativity either way.Can a person make original art from torn up magazines?absolutely. I love to make magazine collages. Wish I knew how to post photos on here. Self-Indulgence
"Allied Forces" over "Limelight"? Grace under Pressure, eh?I have no idea what you mean! Just the over / under thing , ahh.Neither do I. On Triumph over Rush: I had not heard that Triumph song in years. Limelight I hear all the time. I'll admit that Triumph's sound can get old real fast. Rush, not so much.
Entre_Perpetuo
But like, what is a song anyway, for real? I can point to a painting, a hamburger, a t-shirt, a house, a myriad of other works of art, but what is a song? Is it a recording in tape/vinyl/digital form? Is it ink on a page of sheet music? Is it only existent while it's being played? And another thing, who owns a song? Or rather, who should own a song? Should it be the artist/artists who wrote it? The musician/musicians who played it? Whoever listens to it and feels strongly enough to claim it? The company that distributes it? The people who record it? Should it belong to anyone at all, or to everyone, or to some persons select? Where does music come from? Does a songwriter create it from nothing? From something? Does he really get something for nothing? Does music come from some other place, or is it made from materials in our own space? Is music a thing, an object of possession? Or is it a subject, living, like in The Music Lesson? And why, oh why, why should we care?

Union 5-3992
I was thinking about what Steven Wilson said about music being so readily available to us now and how it diminishes the value of albums to the new generation. I think recently those words have been hitting me as I've tried to branch out and discover new music. I've spread out too quickly, jumping from one mood to another, never really spending a lot of time with an album. I never really have the time to absorb what I listen to and whenever I hear it again, I've forgotten what was on it. I should make an effort to try to spend a week with each album. If I find one I like, listen to it throughout the week, 3-4 times or so and really try to let it sink in. Yet I still have a massive list of albums people have recommended. My attention span jumps very quickly, one day I crave nothing but Blues, or today I just want music from the years 1966-67.

Too many great albums. Very little time.

bluefox4000
Trout Mask Replica is indeed the most richly rewarding album in my collection. It's complex. calculated, funny. I wouldn't change a note on it. People can say i don't get it all they like. they're just shackled by their conventions. Mick

djflex
Hammerfall sucks. It's power metal in the most generic form and I hate it. I agree, they suck. Not a huge power metal fan, but every now and then its fun Helloween , gamma ray blind guardian are my go to in this style
That One Guy
Been really into U2 since the middle of November. Their 80's sound sounded... newer than the 80's. ♫ Also heavy on the STP since Weiland's death reminded me of how much I used to frequent them. ♫ The newest album that I listen to is Morning Phase by Beck, from ~ January 2014. ♫ /♫ thoughts
