HemiBeers Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Marathon - as much as hate the keyboard overload of PW, the bass line is killer and the track really moves. The Camera Eye is too long and just kind of sits there...no real peak to the song. 1
Entre_Perpetuo Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Decent question actually, but Marathon wins for me. I mean… I don’t even know what to say about it beyond it’s an absolutely perfect song. 2
condemned2bfree Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Yeah Marathon for me, it races along with wonderful structure, ebbing and flowing. Camera Eye just meanders. 1
toymaker Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Camera Eye for sure. I think it's a great song - I love the composition, the ambient sound effects, the sound of the guitars and bass, the puzzling but compelling drum parts - and even the synthesizer. Plus I like the lyrical portrait of the city, the kind of tableau style lyric that I've always liked better than those earnest (and punning) "striving to elevate the human condition" sorts of things - which I also like, just not as much. And the solo is just damned cool. 2
HemiBeers Posted April 18 Posted April 18 I remember my dad hearing The Camera Eye one time and he said the opening part sounds like cats singing. I guess I never got over that.
malm_51 Posted May 25 Posted May 25 The Camera Eye, especially when it slows down and Neil is doing his thing, cymbals... bell/cup/dome, high hat, snare and base drum! Live in YYZ version is great!
New_World_Man Posted May 26 Posted May 26 I guess I get to be the tiebreaker. I voted for Camera Eye of ofcourse. I really like both a lot though.
NewWorldScott Posted June 20 Posted June 20 (edited) This was not an easy one. But "The Camera Eye" just has this feel to it. There's an aura to the song well before Geddy even sings his first verse. The true 'deep cut" from their most successful and beloved album. Edited June 20 by NewWorldScott
