This list is exactly like mine, album for album, what a big surprise here!

It occurred to me that I accidentally left off the new Squid album, which I think would make my top ten at this point, probably around 9 or 10.

Riverside - ID Entity
Crown Lands - Fearless
Overkill - Scorched *
Metal Church - Congregation of Annihilation *
Govt Mule - Peace Like a River

I'd include Talas 1985, but it came out last year.  Is in heavy rotation over here.

*Both of which are better records, IMO, than the new MetallicA. For every possible measure.

As I`ve bought one new record only in 2023, then it has to Dylan`s Shadow Kingdom.

I don't know HOW I missed this release...but just watched the version of Forever Young from this album on youtube. So good!!

First things that came to mind -

Paul Simon's new piece Seven Psalms...I guess it's an album of sorts...it's a 33 minute song cycle of sorts.  Very beautiful.

Peter Gabriel's i/o...as it slowly comes out!  He is releasing a song a month this year, on the full moons.  The first song, Panopticom was ok to me...but there other songs since have been really great.  The title track and Playing For Time are top tier Gabriel in my view...and this far into a career, not many artists are doing that...

I think I've heard four new albums this year. Maybe five? Last year was much better for me when it came to new releases.

i agree very lackluster year for me.  2022 was miles better.

I wasn't anticipating it being that good of a year for new releases anyways. When there's a good one like last year I usually expect the following year to not be as good.

I didn’t pay a ton of attention to new releases last year, which is part of why I redoubled my efforts this year. So I can’t really verify the comparison, but I’ve been finding a ton to enjoy so far. I mean two of my current top five came out on the same exact day! How sweet is that?

The Winery Dogs 3

Gov't Mule  - Peace Like A River

One of these for top spot. Can't decide yet

First half had some good stuff:

Queens of the Stone Age - In Times New Roman

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation
The Lemon Twigs - Everything Harmony
Foo Fighters - But Here We Are
Haken - Fauna
Entheos - Time Will Take Us All

Katatonia - Sky Devoid of Stars

Royal Thunder - Rebuilding the Mountain

Most are good/fine, only a couple are really great. Not really a stand out year so far. Steven Wilson, Baroness, The Rolling Stones, Claypool Lennon Delirium, Billy Strings, and Alice Cooper all seem to have stuff coming.

Foo Fighters, Haken, Avenged Sevenfold, Royal Thunder, Taylor Swift...

And I really enjoyed the latest King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard album. They are odd but really fun
