There are at least a dozen different strains of coronavirus ravaging the UK. The most common is the B.12.1 strain (pink) and the B.11 strain (green). The researchers did not make clear which strains were imported from other countries, nor did it disclose which one is unique to Britain

I was just typing to JB about this.

There will no large gathering or herd immunity until a vaccine. But if there are so many strains, or if there is another outbreak in the fall and winter, then what?

How many vaccines will one human need to be safe?

I saw a report last month saying the world won't be back with mass gatherings until 2022. Fake News????????

I'm not sure what to believe anymore.

People believing they know better than scientists or those not trusting the media and scientists combo will gather just because they were told not to gather. Mass gatherings will happen even if not officially permitted.

Well to be honest they haven't got a vaccine for any coronavirus so far, including SARS, MERS and 15% of the common cold strains. I think a vaccine is probably out of the question.

The OG tiger king died of it today. RIP Roy.

Wow! I am shocked.

I had one chance to see them perform at The Mirage with my ex wife. We passed.

Wish I saw the act.

RIP

I did get to see their show, it was fabulous. Gorgeous cats but they are wild animals and sad one turned on him. Roy never was the same after he got mauled.

So my boss told me and the rest of our group on Wednesday that he is suspected to have the virus; he was just tested the day before he told us (by email; we are doing a round robin kind of thing whereby we each only go into the office one day a week). He said he’d have his results by Friday or Saturday.

So this being Saturday, I sent him a text to follow up and see if he knew anything more, and asked how he’s feeling. That was about five hours ago. No response yet.

He is the fourth suspected case at my workplace, that I’m aware of.

I went on a family vacation in 1996 or 97 to Vegas and we stayed at the Mirage and saw their show. Some really amazing stuff seeing it live. There were a few things that they did that nobody had a clue how they pulled it off.

The funny thing about that trip was my parents didn't realize you needed to be 21 to gamble. They thought since I was 18 I was good to go but I kept getting tossed out of the gambling areas the entire week. I was legally allowed to get a prostitute in that state and could go see George Carlin say f**k this and f**k that during his show, which was awesome by the way, but underage gambling is where they drew the line for the youngsters lol.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers' Shutdown of the State has been struck down by the State Supreme Court., A vote of 4-3.

Can't say that I'm surprised. Can't say what will happen now. They could come up with an alternative plan, or all Hell could break loose....

So the options will be to die from going to work or die from being broke due to no job. Are we great yet?

How I feel about the last and upcoming douche vs turd election. Not voting green this time or in the party since I’m indie now. Holding my nose for the one who believes in science.

Nice to see they recovered.

I don't know where you're getting your info from but simply going back to work does not mean you will get the virus and die. Unless your job involves a lot of travel or contact with the public you will be at a higher risk. Even then it's not a given that you will get it. It's supposed to be a slow reopen everywhere. So it's not like everything goes back to how it was four months ago with everyone just going about things as normal.

What would you consider "a lot of contact with the public"?

I guess it's mostly the jobs that people have been working in through this whole thing so far. Healthcare, police, firefighters, big retail and grocery chains. Those people are in the thick of it when it comes to getting exposed and while some of them have gotten sick and some may have passed away from it, the majority of them are doing ok.

The point is, going back to work is not a death sentence and nobody should see it that way. They should see it as a step in getting back to some sort of pre pandemic normalcy.

My suspicion is that it will follow Georgia (and Florida and Texas) which has been open now for 2 weeks including restaurants... With the numbers still continuing to go down.

Local and county restrictions are still valid, but they will vary throughout the state. Milwaukee will undoubtedly have stricter rules than other counties.

If it's in US, we won't know . . . still very little testing!

There's over 4000 confirmed cases in 49 states. It's definitely here and certainly should be a concern but it's not time for a full on panic yet. They're taking the proper measures I believe in the limitations they've made in my state when it comes to big get togethers. It's gonna be different for a while but we'll get back to some normalcy soon enough.

I think people are overreacting over here actually. At least it doesn't make total sense why everything's shutting down indefinitely for this one, but Swine Flu and Bird Flu and Sars and Ebola and ever other major health scare of the past 20 years didn't have half this effect. But oh well, people overreacting is probably what will keep the US from winding up like China in this mess...

Overreacting is putting it mildly...

That's the mindset that will get people killed. The time to react is a month ago. We should have been hunkering down then. If we all did, then this thing would have had a fair chance of dying out by now. Instead we are at least one order of magnitude worse off (amount of spread) than we were. It will keep spreading unchecked unless we limit humans contact with each other.

I cannot conceive of people's inability to understand these simple concepts.

Let's come back to this post in a month. We'll see who's right.

Almost 2 weeks. How are we doing?

1 week short of a month. How are we doing? Still overreacting?

So. Been 1 month now. Have we over-reacted?

I have seen videos from ICU's in Italy. I'm pretty sure every person I saw is now dead.

I have seen videos and photos of hospitals in the States, showing so many dead that the bodies are bagged up and stored in offices. f***ing offices.

Mass graves being dug for victims in Potters Field, NYC.

The thing isn't only a lung disease. It attacks the blood and kidneys. Ventilators are no longer the problem, now we need dialysis machines.

So tell me - are we over-reacting yet? How many have to die from this population killer before it's taken seriously by the numb of mind?

> 80,000 dead in less than 2 months, Have we over-reacted yet?

Stay at Home protestor: "I'm not wearing a mask and you can't make me!"

5 Year Old: "I'm not eating my vegetables and you can't make me!"

Contrast and compare.

Main difference: You can eventually get the kid to eat his veggies. ;)

grep, I don't think that he's going to answer you.

You've made your point. He was wrong. A lot of people were wrong about the virus and pandemic.

We should move on and do what we can to prevent any more infections.

I'm just going to keep at it until the pandemic is over. As a testament to all those who barely have high school educations and yet somehow think they know better than infectious disease specialists.

My friend just texted me saying Wisconsin has opened up all the bars. Well at least they have their priorities straight.

What better way to find out if the virus is as threatening as the media and government tell us it is than to open up the bars and see what happens? We're not learning anything new as of right now by staying indoors.

Our state is starting a slow reopen tomorrow for the regions that meet all the state requirements. My county isn't there yet. We have to wait for a 14 day decline in positive covid tests and hospitalizations before we can do it. But at least a reopening is starting.
