Best Rush album SIDE from the 70's and 80's

For the 70's, it's a tie between RUSH side 2 , and 2112 side 1.

for the 80's it has to be Moving Pictures side 1.

Three of the best LP's EVER recorded!

Hemispheres side 1 is always a "go to" for me. So that's how I voted.

I'm going with the majority: MP Side One. Three of my ten favorite Rush tunes plus a great instrumental.

 

Of course, there are plenty of other great sides here. GUP Side One is incredible.

Normally I'd give it to Hemispheres Side 1, but today I'll go for Fountain of Lamneth

 

(although Presto side 2 and MP side 1 were tempting)

 

 

I think Rush has a similar problem to King Crimson: their best songs on an album are not all on the same side, so it's hard to pick best sides.

Said it in my review of the album the other day but AF2K side 1! Just as epic as a side can get...

 

though, I was under the impression that CTTH was on side 1 of AF2K not side 2?

While Moving Pictures isn't my favorite Rush album, it's hard to argue against side one of that release. That gets my vote!

Ha, I went from AFTK side 1 to 2112 side 1, and now I'm going back to AFTK side 1. 2112 is still my favorite song, but that combo on AFTK is too good.

While I TOTALLY understand picking MP side one over 2112 side one, I am shocked by the complete landslide that MP s1 has over 2112 s1.

 

60 votes for MP s1 to 15 votes for 2112 s1 AND 17 votes for Hemispheres s1

 

I figured MP s1 would win, but not by that big a margin. Mainly because so many people on TRF say how much they are sick of hearing Tom Sawyer, Limelight and YYZ. I don't hear it as much about Red Barchetta. And I know there is alot of love for Hemispheres, as I love it too, but I'm shocked it beat out 2112 also.

 

If you asked me what the most influential album side was, I'd go MP s1 hands down (obviously). But as a favorite, at least at this moment right now, I go 2112 s1. Funny thing is, my favorite changes constantly so I totally get HowItIs saying she can't choose!

This so close between Side 1 PeW and Side 1 MP. In the end, I think I have to go with Pictures.

 

Take Chemistry off Signals side 1 and replace it with anything off Side 2 and we've got a real battle on our hands.

Way back in 2005 when I started this thread, I voted for MP side 1, and I still would. The only ones that are serious contenders for me are:

 

1. Moving Pictures - side 1

2. A Farewell to Kings - side 1

3. Hemispheres - side 2

4. Permanent Waves - side 1

5. 2112 - side 1

6 Hemispheres - side 1

 

Mind you, I love so many of the other sides listed, but those ones stand above the rest for me.
