Your favourite political band and song

Recommended Posts

Are you f***ing kidding me right now?

Rage Against The Machine is nothing but political and they rocked harder than any of those pusillanimous "bands".

Perhaps, but the political thrill I get from U2's War is easily the first good memory that comes to mind when I think of political music I have liked, and I can subjectively choose to give that gut reaction precedence over harder rocking politics from arguably more politically serious bands like ratm if I so please.

Of course you can and it's okay to be wrong. :16ton:

(Not sure if being playful or serious...)

Of course it's okay to be wrong. But the beautiful thing about subjectivity is there is no wrong. :)

If rocking harder means sharing the stage at modern Woodstock festivals with Limp Bizket and Creed and playing to hoards of spoiled white college kids, than yes, Rage Against The Machine did rock harder than a band like Stiff Little Fingers who came out of mid 70s Belfast ..

yep

How much influence do you think they had with who else appeared on a stage for an event like that? Don't be silly.

It's hard for anyone to get a message across when 100,000 drunk fools are screaming "Show us your tits"

That 1999 Woodstock festival was a hypocritical abomination

Dream Theater's "On the Backs of Angels". It does a great job bemoaning the way political elites have corrupted the system and survive off the backs of their constituents. How the destructive force of government is used against the angels of creation.

Standing on the backs of angels

Destined to create

Mounting the attack

While heroes carry your weight

We spiral towards disaster

Survival fading faster

Riding out the wave

Content to feed off the machine

Bleeding us to death

The new American dream

You're blinded by your hunger

Beware your days are numbered

Tears fall from the shameless

Shelter me, guide me to the edge of the water

Selfless are the righteous

Burden me, lead me like a lamb to the slaughter

Blurring lines drawn in between

What is right and what is wrong

Victims on the radar string us along

We're on to your agenda

The dead end road to nowhere

Tears fall from the shameless

Shelter me, guide me to the edge of the water

Selfless are the righteous

Burden me, lead me like a lamb to the slaughter

Tears fall from the shameless

Shelter me, guide me to the edge of the water

Selfless are the righteous

Burden me, lead me like a lamb to the slaughter

Selfless are the righteous

Burden me, lead me like a lamb to the slaughter

If "anti-war" can be considered "political" (often but not necessarily), this is my favorite "political" song, all due respect to "The Call Up" and "Sam Stone".

Don't have a purely political favorite because no one's yet made a song titled, "I no longer dare to watch cable news for fear I might see a clip of a Hillary campaign speech."

I think this is possibly the best anti war song of all time....It deals with the horror of soldiers in WW1and 2 being executed for cowardice when they were actually suffering from shellshock.

Why are these women here dancing on their own?

Why is there this sadness in their eyes?

Why are the soldiers here

Their faces fixed like stone?

I can't see what it is that they despise

They're dancing with the missing

They're dancing with the dead

They dance with the invisible ones

Their anguish is unsaid

They're dancing with their fathers

They're dancing with their sons

They're dancing with their husbands

They dance alone, they dance alone

It's the only form of protest they're allowed

I've seen their silent faces they scream so loud

If they were to speak these words they'd go missing too

Another woman on the torture table what else can they do

They're dancing with the missing

They're dancing with the dead

They dance with the invisible ones

Their anguish is unsaid

They're dancing with their fathers

They're dancing with their sons

They're dancing with their husbands

They dance alone, they dance alone

One day we'll dance on their graves

One day we'll sing our freedom

One day we'll laugh in our joy

And we'll dance

One day we'll dance on their graves

One day we'll sing our freedom

One day we'll laugh in our joy

And we'll dance

Ellas danzan con los desaparecidos

Ellas danzan con los muertos

Ellas danzan con amores invisibles

Ellas danzan con silenciosa angustia

Danzan con sus padres

Danzan con sus hijos

Danzan con sus esposos

Ellas danzan solas

Danzan solas

Hey Mr. Pinochet

You've sown a bitter crop

It's foreign money that supports you

One day the money's going to stop

No wages for your torturers

No budget for your guns

Can you think of your own mother

Dancin' with her invisible son...

As far as a band the choice has to be Michael Franti & Spearhead....even though today he has drifted away from his very political and anti war stances in the 90's and the early 2000's

1. Stay Human....Rock The Nation, Listener Supported, Oh My God, Stay Human and more are all gems

2. Yell Fire....too many to list after he visited Iraq

3. Everyone Deserves Music....with the classic...Bomb The World

Liking all the attention

Midnight Oil is getting and I am way late to the RATM debate

I agree they didnt encounter rigors of living in war, but southland aint no walk in park

Rage concerts ive been lucky enough to attend were on another level of intensity than every other rock show i saw.

And when Zack was giving middle finger to the white upper middle class suburban crowd, it literally seemed he meant it.

His words are SOCN baiting ...

Weapons not food, not homes, not shoes

Not need, just feed the war cannibal animal

I walk tha corner to tha rubble that used to be a library

Line up to tha mind cemetary now

What we don't know keeps tha contracts alive an movin'

They don't gotta burn tha books they just remove 'em

While arms warehouses fill as quick as tha cells

Rally round tha family, pockets full of shells

Rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells

They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells

They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells

They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells

I wasn't debating ratm being an epic political band as much as defending my right to have my own opinion, but yes, they are awesome! :)

And actually my real fav might be closer to Sunday Bloody Sunday rather than New Years Day, but they're pretty close, not that I've still put much thought into it.
