Snaked posted a few pictures that supposedly have to do with the artwork somehow (maybe inner booklet images?) that are much better than the actual cover. The image from RIAB that is SUPPOSEDLY the tour booklet cover is much better than the actual cover.

 

Overally, I gotta say that the cover kinda sucks by Rush album cover standards. Of course if the music is awesome, who cares, right?

I gotta say, I'm not liking it at all. A part of me is still holding out hope that it's not the final cover. It's just bland and uninspired, like a 15 year old's first photoshop project for a digital media class. The red turbulent clouds are especially tacky. At least Hold Your Fire and Counterparts pulled off minimalism aptly. This though? Completely amateurish. sad.gif

 

The music MORE than makes up for it though. tongue.gif

Butthole? That's best you could come up with? Oh well.... I voted for myself tongue.gif I like the swirly cloud but not as much as the other ones we've recently seen. Especially the one with the hands.

There's not a lot going on, but honestly I couldn't care less.

 

I'm not going to sit there staring at the cover, I'm going to listen to the first new Rush album in 5 years and judge that. They could have just used a massive picture of a Gefilter or something and it wouldn't have made any difference, it's all about the music for me. 1022.gif

I have to say I expected more, especially after the immensely detailed and beautiful cover we got for Caravan, but the simplicity is growing on me. I don't mind it too much, knowing that it is just waiting to be associated with the music behind it, which will make it look awesome no matter how it looks.

The consensus so far doesn't seem good. It makes me wonder what was going on with all the really cool images that we have seen. Are they going to be part of the booklet, or maybe the back cover? If so, it'll be weird to have really awesome images as part of the design, but the lamest picture by far as the cover. unsure.gif

 

I know everyone, including me, says so what, if the music is awesome it won't matter, but sometimes these little things make me question their judgment. If they could give the nod to a lame cover maybe out of respect to the designer, what could that say about their decisions over the music out of respect to their producer? Hopefully I'm reaching, making connections where none exist, and the music is awesome.

There's only one reason Red Swirly Clock is the cover and his name is Neil. He works with Syme and chooses the cover. He likes red.

 

Clearly, Snake Road Baby was better than Leela, but Neil chose it for SnA anyway. The cover won't matter, obviously, it's the music, but every other one of the images released so far is better than Red Swirly Clock.

The front cover is a statment image like 2112. The T shirts will have a recognisable symbol rather than a landscape image with a blimp on it.

 

In a few months time we will all be wearing new watches mark my words.
