No if and or buts.... you hear the beginning and know what song it is. liddybuck01
Every week my husband and i take part in a local group who play Name That Tune. You have to know it with the first few seconds, and at the most, 20 seconds. They do songs from pretty much every genre. Well, besides Latin or opera or anything weird like that. mostly stuff from 1950 - present. It's a lot of fun for someone like me who has so much random music information jammed into my brain lol

Looking at just Rush: Necromancer, Camera Eye and Xanadu all start out with pretty much silence for a few seconds.

fledgehog
perhaps a better thread title would be "songs you are intimately familiar with". if you listen to a song that it's "tough to tell" enough times, you'll still end up being able to identify it quickly. likewise, most of the "signature opening" songs have saturated pop culture and radio, which is why they are so easily picked out.
