KenJennings
QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ May 25 2011, 05:58 PM) Anyone who doesn't think Seinfeld ranks in the top 5 comedies of all time needs to have an opinion lobotomy. I'm just going to throw that out there right now before this thing gets into full swing. No offense, but I don't TRUST anyone who thinks Seinfeld was lame. Seinfeld was good, but I don't find myself coming back to it. Same with Curb. I guess I can only handle so much Larry David humor. Don't get me wrong, I like both shows, but not on my favorites list. A friend of mine uses this as his avatar on another board. It is awesome sauce. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d155/RamsATW/image.gif A lot of good shows mentioned here that would make my Honorable Mention list.... Married With Children Seinfeld Cheers How about some love for The Andy Griffith Show? If I watch Happy Days or Welcome Back Kotter now, they look hopelessly dated to me. But Andy holds up so well. Classic stuff. Barney Fife and his one bullet in his pocket...excellent.
burgeranacoke
I Love Lucy, maybe a bit dated now but it is redone and redone in most of the mainstream comedy shows, kind of like Shakespeare Arrested Development I think this was the funniest tv comedy ever. Pushing Daisies, started with the best opening ever in a tv comedy, rivaling the opening of 8 1/2 It kept getting better and better. The Simpsons No other show really reflected the current times as this show. The Bob Newhart Show: Deadpan humor at its best. Special recognition to Don Knotts and his portrayal of Barney Fife in The Andy Griffith Show. Maybe the best comedy characterization on TV

ReRushed
QUOTE (burgeranacoke @ May 26 2011, 11:18 AM) Arrested Development I think this was the funniest tv comedy ever. Really? I don't get the love for this show. It seems so calculated and self-conscious when it comes to its jokes. So much so, I always knew what was coming from a mile away. I never laughed watching this show. Not once. Ever. Not a giggle, not a chuckle, not a tee-hee.. never went Ha!

You may be right on both points, but I am probably not the brightest bulb in the room, and I have a penchant for character-driven black comedy. Come on ReRushed, show us your five. I never laughed watching this show. Not once. Ever. Not a giggle, not a chuckle, not a tee-hee.. never went Ha! Calculation and self-consciousness are all parts of fantastic craft comedy. If craft comedy isn't what you're in to, that's one thing; but as far as well crafted comedies go, Arrested Development is an amazingly staged, amazingly interwoven web of hop ons and frozen bananas. The love for AD is because of the reasons you don't like it. Everything in that show is done for a specific reason, and that depth of organized chaos makes for a show that is truly beautiful in my eyes. I can understand that as it's so dated (along with Jeannie) but holy shit, no love for Larry David I can't get enough of his humour. When I fall asleep I'm still laughing my ass off at it. Best comedy show currently on for me, no question. God damn it.
