Sitting vs. Standing

Is it wrong that I like to stand for the whole show? I know that we're all fans, so maybe you'll understand that when I'm psyched for a Rush show, I mean I am PSYCHED for the show. After months of anticipation, I have so much energy on show day, I can barely contain it, and there is no way I can plant my ass in a chair for 3 hours while my favorite band is playing live.

Its fine to stand at a concert since most people will be standing for most of the show. However, if there is a slow part of the slow and everyone in your section sits down except for you then you probably should be courteous to the people behind you and sit down for a little while.

i always feel energetic for the 1st 1/2 of the show, and than i feel the need to sit here and there during the second set. i get tired pretty easily these days and need to conserve some of my energy for the encore. old.gif

Every Rush show I've ever been to I've stood. Everyone else is and if you want to see what's going on you gotta stand. I ALWAYS get someone like 6'4" in front of me (I'm 5'2") but not this time, first row for all shows! Whoot!

I don't mind standing, and appreciate the energy and enthusiasm everyone has. I also am sure that the band enjoys the energy they get from it too.

But I do like to be able to sit once in awhile, after all it's not a GA show, and I do have a chair. Inevitably, I get stuck behind the 6'+ guy who stands the entire show and sloshes beer all over everyone around him.

I like to sit with my arms folded and try not to yell too loud either as to upset others. I also don't do beer runs either because I don't want to upset people by asking them if I could get by. I also don't smoke weed because it's rude, and stuff cotton balls up my nose so that I don't have to smell that horrible reefer smoke.

I am a stander. For one, I am short, so I sort of have to.

You just can't get into it as much when you're sitting, IMO. It just isn't the same.

f**k sitting

This right here...a rock concert is NO place for sitting IMO.

That's why they make DVD's...to sit on your couch. yes.gif

Damn right.. this isn't a ballet recital, it's a rock concert!

I almost didn't go to the Tampa show in '07 because of what happened to me there in '04... I was standing during Mystic Rhythms and somebody threw a (fortunately empty, plastic) bottle at me! wtf.gif

I'm only 5'8, but I've NEVER asked anyone in front of me to sit down if they're standing at a show... first I'm standing myself and pretty good at sliding a step right or left and finding an opening over a shoulder, and second having as many people as possible at the show standing and rocking is a GOOD thing 653.gif

Yep. No sitting for me. If I get tired I'll sit for a bit if I want to, but I'll never expect those in front of me to sit.

I like to stand and rock but If everyone decides to sit during a slower tune, I have no problem taking a load off.

I said load.

Same here...at 5'3" it is a must to stand. At the SLC show on the Vapor Trails tour, the guy directly in front of me (I was about 20 rows back on the floor) switched me seats, then let me stand on my chair in front of him so I could see!

Looking back, I think he just wanted to look at my arse. I was a young, decent looking chick at a Rush concert, after all! There weren't many of us! tongue.gif

I NEVER EVER sit at Rush concerts. In fact, the only concerts I ever sit at are ones I see at the casino in Jackpot, NV at their indoor venue. It's very small, so standing is almost impossible.

I go to ROCK! If you can't see over me, then stand up! I am sure you are probably taller than me!

I normally stand at a Rush concert but in 08 at Concord, I was feeling a little under the weather and felt like sitting at some point. We were seated in the front row of the 206 section so it didn't affect my view. After a while, more people in my row started sitting and after a few more songs, I turned around and saw that nearly everyone in the entire section was sitting down. In every other section everyone was standing. I know it kind of looked bad, like we were bad fans or something, but it was funny that the sitting spread over the whole section. It was relaxing since I wasn't feeling well. I did stand back up for the encore, as did everyone else in the section. This tour I will be much closer so I will definitely be standing the entire time.

I agree. If you want to sit watch the video screens. Don't bother me with you pansy ass whining. If you whine I do ask if you want cheese with it. ohmy.gif

I will mention that to my wife, she is always angry at ending up behind tall people and she is 5'4".

Every Rush concert I've been to, people always stood - no matter what part of the venue I was sitting in. Those guys in front rows who don't need to stand? Well, they're still standing, too.

I guess I look at it like this - there will be time enough to sit on my ass when I get in my car to drive home. smile.gif
