  1. QUOTE (Alph Seeker @ Sep 15 2010, 10:36 PM) We need footage of Working Man. I tell you, that is where you saw Alex go from joking to irritated - his neck was red as a friggin' tomato during his solo, which he SMOKED - he was venting for sure. I may have read it wrong, but I thought I saw some none-too-pleased glances between him and Neil, all the while Geddy was the cool constant. The looks may very well have been 100% directed at the equipment failures, but they were off synch badly at one point. Ah ha so they were lost at one point in the middle of Working Man...I was sitting there with my buddy and I said to him "I'm not sure about you but I'm lost". He turned to me and said yeah, I think they are too.
  2. QUOTE (orangefan244 @ Sep 15 2010, 10:58 AM) Watching the YouTube videos, they really brought it last night. No offense to Boston, but I was hoping my Syracuse show was going to be the best :-) I guess there's no such thing as a "bad" Rush concert! They were so good that one of my least favorite songs, "Working Them Angels", was one of the best songs they played all night.
  3. I was there 13th row center. Alex had guitar problems throughout much of the 2nd set, intermittently not being able to hear himself, going back and forth from the stage to side stage, despite his guitar being present in the FOH mix. And yes at one point then there was no guitar in FOH for almost an entire song. Then when they went into the La Villa intro, Geddy and Neil played the intro repeatedly while the techs worked to try to get Alex's guitar working again, trying 3 different cables. It was actually very funny at this point as they played the intro over and over for several minutes. After a while Alex started making up his own lyrics that went along with the La Villa intro, "Still no guitar"...eventually the crowd joined in too. Funny as hell. I also thought I heard him singing "I wish my guitar would work" too. I don't know who these techs were but these kids looked like dopey 18 year old kids who didn't know a guitar cable from from an Xbox cable. Alex actually introduced one of them saying "this is my new tech". I thought the way Alex handled it was awesome. It actually added some spontaneity to the show.
  4. You're reading way to much from Alex's comment.
  5. You are not the first person to complain about Ged's voice on Closer to the Heart for this tour. Unfortunately the FWTK vocal range is gone from Ged's voice, and has been gone for a long time. That said, I'd still rather hear them do the song anyway.
  6. QUOTE (nobodys hero @ Aug 25 2010, 10:52 AM) QUOTE (FootballYouBet @ Aug 25 2010, 07:52 AM) Let me see if I got this straight. You had legit tickets for the show and a scalper sold the same seats illegitimately AND then came in and told you you had to "double up" because he sold bogus tickets? And Security backed him up? WTF??? What is RR? Yep! He has some kind of scam going on over there. I just cant figure out who to call to report his ass. The time to do something about it would've been at the show. I would not have allowed to be doubled up, would've demanded that security remove these people, and if security refused to do so I would've done it myself and also would've gone further up the chain of command to complain. At this point I would try to gather as much info about this David guy as you can (what is his connection to Live Nation?) and try to get him to refund your money. If he refunds your money I'd let him off the hook. If he doesn't, then I would do everytihng in your power to make his life miserable. That's why I suggest you try to figure out who he is and what exactly happened so that you can screw him if he doesn't refund your money.

  8. QUOTE (Ron2112 @ Aug 24 2010, 05:31 AM) They should have made a point of giving one to everyone EXCEPT that Langone douche..... Peace, Ron Actually I bet that Langone douche was a factor in Rush's decision to give away those hats.
  9. QUOTE (fool4rush @ Aug 20 2010, 09:59 AM) Not me, i was on Geddy's side Sounds like what might have happened to you was probably a result of other people, meaning that once they started having problems in the front rows security started to clamp down on the crowd in front in general, and became less tolerant of certain behavior. That said I have a hard time believing thatg they yanked you for absolutely no reason...
  10. You weren't that chick that at Red Rocks, was $hitfaced up front taking tons of pictures and being rude by constantly moving into other people's seats to take the pictures were you? The one that Alex was yelling at? If you are that chick, then all I can do is say that you had it coming to you. See this Utube video and the comments on it. Did you get removed right before the encore?
  11. Bringing a kid to a rock concert is like bringing a kid to a bar. The kid really doesn't belong there, and a room full of adults shouldn't have to cater to the kid because of some dumb ass parent who thinks he's being cool by bringing his kid. You wanna bring your kid to the show? Fine. Just don't act like a total f***ing wanker by making people sit down. And don't be surprised when people sitting right next to your kids spark a joint either.
  12. QUOTE (Mr. Krinkle @ Aug 5 2010, 12:49 PM) QUOTE (ILSnwdog @ Aug 5 2010, 11:57 AM) Awesome. I'll be at the Chicago show on the 23rd! Hey Krinkle...Is that Malnati's or Gino's East in your sig? Lou's! Ha I knew it was Lou's. I live in Boston now and had a couple of pies shipped to me last week. They pack them in dry ice and overnight them to you.
  13. I got home from work today and both of my VIP merch packages were waiting for me. Yippee! The Rush shirt is actually kind of cool even though it's not a tour shirt. Not impressed with the poster. Would've been worth framing if it was bigger and if the Owl wasn't cut off so much. Can't wait to watch the second DVD of the Doc.
  14. I called them from work today to check on the status. They claim that it was shipped out on the 21st. Nice to see that they are giving me VIP treatment by shipping it by the slowest method possible. How much you want to bet that when I get home today from work that the package still hasn't arrived?
  15. Btw, I checked the fanfire site to see how they were advertising the T-shirt in the VIP package. "Specially Designed Rush Concert Shirt" First, there's nothing "special" about the design. It's the Rush logo from their first album. Second, it's not a concert T-shirt. It's just a shirt with the Rush logo on it. Misleading.
  16. I don't think that you turn to anybody. It's not like you're going to get your money back. Chalk this up to a learning experience. It was for me and I've attended thousands of shows over the past 30 years. Never chose a VIP package because I always get great seats no matter what. Since I looked at this tour as probably the last time I'll see RUSH (unless they do Permanent Waves next year) I figured I'd go VIP just to make sure that I have awesome seats. In the future I'll do what I always do. Camp out on Craigslist/Ticketmaster the day before and day of the show, and get killer seats for face value.
  17. The only thing that I'm really pissed about is the shirt. The impression that was given was that it was a special tour shirt. There is nothing about that shirt I see that is tour related or special at all, which means that I now have to buy a tour shirt, which is another $35. Bleep that! And you know what's funny about the Fly By Night poster? The fact that they're not playing a single song off that album on this tour!!! VIP my ass. It's like the package was assembled by someone who doesn't know Rush at all. This package is a RIP and is an insult to a very loyal fan base.
  18. I am audio engineer who hasn't seen Rush live in decades. They've always had great sound when I saw them, and I have heard several complaints now about the sound for this tour (particularly the low end) from several different venues. This surprises me a bit because the guy who mixes them is Brad Madix. He's not a chump. Anyway, there's really no excuse for muddy or annoying bass or lack of mix clarity at this level especially when you're mixing a 3 piece. Rush has got to be one of the easiest bands to mix live. Very few live mics on stage and no monitors to worry about mucking up the FOH sound. 1 guitar. Little in the area of live vocal mics? Easy.
  19. Here's some more tips. If you are not close to the stage, and you have to use a lot of digital zoom, keep in mind that the more you zoom, the more susceptable to camera shake your camera is going to be, resulting in blurry pictures. If you start taking fotos and notice that they are coming out blurry no matter how still you try to hold the camera, you're going to have to zoom out no matter what. Last, be prepared to try the settings I talked about and look at the pictures you've taken to evaluate your settings right away. Once you get them right, you won't have to touch them and you can just enjoy the show and enjoy taking pictures. So start taking pictures with the idea to immediately start reviewing them to get the setup aspect of this all out of the way. Familiarize yourself with setting up your camera before the show so that you can make adjustments quickly without missing the show.
  20. Generally speaking, do not use a flash. Don't use a flash unless you're close to your subject. If you use a flash and you're not close to ther stage(close like within 3 or 4 rows), your picture not only won't light up the guys on stage, but will instead light up the heads in front of you at the show, mask the colors of the lights, and look more like you were trying to take a picture of the back of concert goers heads. Then there's the fact that using a flash will eat your batteries quick too. In short, in most low ligh concert picture situations, the flash is useless. In order to get good quality low light concert photos you're going to need to set your camera to MANUAL, with an ISO ABOVE 400, with NO FLASH. If you are within the first 10 rows/close to the stage you can probably get away with ISO 400 or slightly higher. If you are 10-15 rows back probably 800-1200. The higher the ISO setting the greater sensitivity the camera will have to light. That is why the further you get away from the stage the more sensitivity you want. The downside of the higher ISO is that the higher sensitivity the more grainy the photos will be. If you're notn blowing the photos up it shouldn't be that much of an issue. The rule of thumb is to never use an ISO# higher than you need. Last, if your higher ISO pictures come out blurry, try a faster shutter speed, which is not the same thing as ISO speed.
  21. QUOTE (yyz98 @ Jul 21 2010, 11:02 PM) Now I think they are lying I got the e-mail indicating package was SHIPPED. Surely someone somewhere in the states should have recieved theirs, no? Im in AZ, nothing. At this point, I am tired of it. I have been pining to watch the doc, listen to the new songs and get the other goods.... I think they are lying too. When I go in my account it still says there is no shipping info for my VIP package, and since I haven't received it yet and that email was sent a week ago, even if it shipped "Ground" it would've been here by now. I think they sent out that email purely to shut people up for a while longer. If my stuff doesn't get here within a week I am going to dispute the charge with my CC company.
  22. Anybody here get their VIP merch yet?
  23. I am an audio engineer who's mixed bands live for over 20 years. There are several possible reasons for why the sound was bad/bassy where you were. 1. Poorly designed venue with acoustical issues. Could be that this sound problem was limited to the section you were sitting in, and in fact could even be isolated to a couple of rows in your section. Hell I've been in venues where the sound is dramatically different whehter you are standing up or sitting down. It is hard for a mixer to account for all the acoustic anamolies that might exist in a venue, especially in a venue of that size. Even still, I typically walk around a bit during sound check to different areas of the venue to make sure that the sound heard in off-axis areas of the arena is not dramatically different than what I am hearing at the mixing console. If it is different, I will try to compensate. there are a number of ways to do this.... In the future, try walking down near the mixing console and see if the sound is different there. This will tell you whether it's an acoustical problem. 2. The engineer had a bad night. It happens, even to the best. Either his ears failed him, which can happen from time to time, or maybe he was sick. Mixing well when sick is impossible because your ears are blocked and are not hearing correctly.
