  1. Permanent Waves Hemispheres Moving Pictures 2112 Caravan/BU2B (if that can count as an album), otherwise, Caress of Steel
  2. I saw the movie over the weekend. Having read and liked the book, both my wife and I enjoyed the movie. Its actually pretty amazing, considering the small budget and short time frame it was filmed in. We both felt, however, that if anyone has not read the book, they would likely have a very difficult time following the plot, and would certainly miss alot of the subtleties in the film. Without some familiarity with Objectivism and Rands philosophy (regardless of ones personal opinion of these), the film would probably be very boring and seemingly pointless. It is definitely a film made for fans of the book, and in that respect, I think it succeeded very well.
  3. I contacted my local record store listed on the website a couple of weeks ago. They told me that they did order the record, but all the Record Store Day releases are very hit and miss, as far as what they will actually receive from the order, They expect to actually get only a fraction of the items they ordered. The best advice that they could give me was to be there when the doors open on the 16th.
  4. QUOTE (Unattractive Truth @ Apr 14 2011, 03:22 PM)QUOTE (On TheRoad To Adventure @ Apr 14 2011, 01:08 PM) QUOTE (DigitalDan @ Apr 13 2011, 06:41 PM) Years ago I think I would have really wanted to meet them enough to pay $3K. But now I'd love to just party with the from the front row for 3 hours. 11th row is the closest I've ever made it since I started seeing them in 1991 and that was this past weekend in Hershey. Might splurge on the next tour for first 3 rows if available. If anyone has any tips for getting first 3 rows without knowing someone I'd love to hear it. Ditto for me. I've got 13th row for Portland this year, and that's the closest I've ever been. How anyone can get the first few rows without paying an arm and a leg to a scalper, or by knowing someone is beyond me. The options through Ticketmaster, like Premium Seat Auction and VIP Packages can sometimes really be worth it (relative to scalpers). We drew 4th row center for Las Vegas this time around. Those exact seast are selling on Ticketliquidator for $802 each (plus the massive fees). We paid $700 for both, and got the VIP swag (DVD, CD, Shirt, Poster, etc.). Still not the cheapest tickets, but it can be done. I got 3rd row dead center for Vegas last summer through TM Auction. Paid 700/ticket but they were exact center, and were quite a bit cheaper than the brokers were getting for this show. One thing to consider with the TM Auctions is that the price you bid is the exact price you pay, There are no additional fees or charges which make it not a bad deal sometimes. Ive gotten 5th row a couple of times for California shows on the auctions for around 300 bucks.
  5. I have thought about waving some cash around and trying to buy a meet and greet from someone at a show, but am nervous. Would there be anything illegal about attempting to do this ? Would it be like scalping tix at a show ? I scored second row to the first LA show in June, and would really hate to miss the show being escorted out to the parking lot or even worse, a holding cell.
  6. I saw them twice this tour-at Shoreline and Vegas. Had great seats at Shoreline and even better seats at Vegas-3rd row center. These were the best seats I have ever had for Rush and it was one of the greatest days of my life!!! Had an awesome time at RushCon, met lots of great people, awesome seats for the show and my wife got a pick from Alex. In June, we made the trip down to Hollywood to see the guys get their star on the Walk of Fame. Whatever anyone thinks of this honor, it really was a special day for those who were there. It was a day that i will never forget. All in all, it was a great tour and an incredible summer for us. The only problem is that I need to start saving some money now since I will never be satisfied with crappy seats again.
  7. Ended up behind Neils bus on a 2 lane highway for several miles on the way home from Shoreline a couple of weeks ago. I passed it the first chance I got, then passed it again later on I-5 after I had made a stop for coffee.
  8. Real Time, Half Time, Bass Time, Sausage Time
  9. Marathon was a high point for me, as was Working Man (don't care for the way they are starting that one though). They really rock the hell out of that song, though. TSOR is always incredible, BUT..... I think Caravan might actually be my favorite part of the show. I really like both the new songs and they sound just incredible live.
  10. I am curious, at what point does security become the responsibility of the bands security, rather than venue security? I would assume that it would be when the band members or stage are being affected by some fans behavior or actions? I have been to 2 shows in the past week and security was very different at each. Security at the Shoreline last Monday seemed to disappear 2 songs prior to the encore, and many fans rushed down the aisles to the front. From where I was sitting it looked like the second row suddenly ended up being about 5 or 6 people deep. It didn't affect me in row 12 but if I had been down there I would have been pretty upset. At Vegas last night, security was very tight and I don' think that anyone got in to the first 4 rows who didn't belong (or if they did, they didn't get to stay there long). They were actually counting heads in each row throughout the show. Some venues could really learn a thing or 2 from security at a facility like MGM. Since I was fortunate enough to be third row last night, I know that I appreciated their efforts. Awesome show last night, BTW.
  11. Had an awesome time last night at the show and at RushCon. I noticed Neils kit being worked on a couple of times too. I didnt notice that it affected his playing, though. From where I was the guys really sharp and I thought the show was incredible. I saw them Monday at the Shoreline and thought that they did look like they might be a little more tired after this show, but hey, they are entitled ! One thing that really bugged me last night, though (and this had nothing to do with the band).. What the hell is with people who get first 2 rows to a Rush concert, come in late, leave early, then sit down and spend the entire time texting during the 7 or 8 songs that they are there for? Apparently a whole bunch of people who somehow ended up with these seats (mostly in the second row center) got the nights confused and thought that they were gonna see Lady GaGa, who did a concert at MGM on Friday night. I was fortunate enough to be in the third row center, but how sad that a bunch of these prime seats went to waste on a bunch of young girls who could not have cared less about the show and probably had no idea who Rush even was. Oh well, it was good for my view at least.
  12. I normally stand at a Rush concert but in 08 at Concord, I was feeling a little under the weather and felt like sitting at some point. We were seated in the front row of the 206 section so it didn't affect my view. After a while, more people in my row started sitting and after a few more songs, I turned around and saw that nearly everyone in the entire section was sitting down. In every other section everyone was standing. I know it kind of looked bad, like we were bad fans or something, but it was funny that the sitting spread over the whole section. It was relaxing since I wasn't feeling well. I did stand back up for the encore, as did everyone else in the section. This tour I will be much closer so I will definitely be standing the entire time.
  13. I like beer as much as anyone but Ill be dammed if I am going to waste one minute of a Rush concert walking out of the arena to go stand in line to buy one. I spent WAY too much money for some good seats, not to mention travel and hotel expenses to think about a drink. I will not be drinking anything for several hours before the show, and if I feel like drinking that night, I will gladly wait till after the show. If I absolutely have to use the restroom I will wait till the intermission. Even if they are playing a song I am not crazy about, its still Rush dammit, and you never know what you might miss.
  14. When we saw Rush last tour at Nokia, we were in the first row behind the pit. Some guy in the front row right in front of Geddy spent the entire show walking back and forth to buy beer. When he was actually at his seat, he spent nearly the entire time with his back to the stage, cheering and yelling at the crowd, like he thought he was on stage or something. I dont think he actually watched the show for more than 10 minutes in total. I still wonder what in the hell was wrong with this guy. Front row and you are so wasted that you dont even watch the show???? At least he looked like he was having fun.
  15. I wish I could find more to appreciate about the albums from the 90s (and I have tried) but I just cant. In my opinion, there are a few good songs here and there, but for the most part, Rush produced very little from Presto through T4E that I can appreciate. In contrast, I can very much appreciate nearly everything they produced prior to Presto and after T4E. Unlike many on this board, SnA is one of my favorite Rush albums. For me, the biggest problem with the 90s material is not the music but the lyrics. It seems so many of the songs consist of just one cheesy cliche after another, many of them are downright embarrassing to listen to.
  16. Alot of the prime seats are going on the Ticketmaster auction and the VIP presales. I havent seen many really good seats in the general public sales. Keep checking back with TM closer to the concert, there is a good chance that some good seats will be released much closer to the date.
  17. I took my kids to a show on the last 2 tours. The youngest was 10 at the time. Taking all 3 kids to 1 show this time, so this will be their 3rd show. They all like Rush and at least my youngest agrees with me that Rush is the greatest band ever (Thank you Rock Band). My youngest is short so I take that in to consideration when deciding where to sit. Front row in a section a bit farther back or an aisle seat seems to work well for him to have the best view. I try for closer seats when I am going without the kids.
  18. Has anyone sent a sharpie with the stuff to be signed? I am thinking of sending a Fly By Night LP sleeve, and I was thinking of sending a silver sharpie with it since it is such a dark color and black signatures wont really show up. Also, I was going to send "Traveling Music" to hopefully get Neils signature on it. Do you think I should send it separately or with the LP sleeve?
  19. I like the medley, if it is composed of songs which the guys would otherwise not perform in their entirety (like Bastille Day) likely due to being out of Geddys vocal range
  20. Call Ticketmaster and ask them if you have other options for pick up. They have been pretty helpful with me. I have done will call a couple of times with no problems, but for peace of mind, nothing beats having hard tickets in hand months ahead of time.
  21. I tried to purchase tickets for Vegas at a retail outlet, rather than online Saturday the instant they went on sale. I was looking for 2 tickets near the front and the ONLY thing that came up in the front sections was one ticket in the front row right in front of Geddy. I hesitated for an instant since it was a single ticket before I told the girl to grab it, but it was too late. I wouldnt have used it myself since my wife is going with me to that show, but at least I know that one person somewhere got very lucky with the general public sale. BTW, for anyone who is not aware, going to a ticketmaster outlet is better than at home on the computer. If the employee will let you look at the monitor as happened here, you will see EVERY ticket on sale, with the best ones at the top, rather than just the one supposedly"best available"seat that shows up when you try to purchase online.
  22. Well, I ended up in Floor B row C, which should be 3rd row. I used the TM auction. A little disappointed that I lost out on row B, but I had to draw the line somewhere, and when row B jumped up to $930 minimum bid, that was it for me. The good news is that I am dead center so it should be great. This is the closest I have ever been for Rush so I cant wait!!! Thanks again all for the advice. See ya in Vegas!!!!!
  23. QUOTE (Patty @ Apr 29 2010, 07:36 PM)One thing to consider about spending a lot of $$ on front row is that many venues ADD another row in front of the front row for contest winners, etc. Before you buy, make sure that your front row ticket is really in the front row! Otherwise, it's a real blow when you get to the show and realize that you're not going to be standing at the rail.
  24. I normally get seats between 6-15 rows back. Last year at Concord I got front row in the 200s (rear section) because I was taking my son and he is short, so I figured he would be able to see better. As far as my son was concerned, it was a great call. As for me, I would never want to sit back there again. It is a totally different experience being closer to the stage.
  25. Well, I have decided that, since you only live once, I have to do this at least once in my life and this is the time. Hopefully I will have my credit card paid off before they start the next tour!
