QUOTE (apetersvt @ May 6 2012, 07:16 PM) QUOTE (amish_ashaman @ May 6 2012, 06:50 PM) Every time a new album comes out, I'll listen for a while, then go right back to the classic period until the next one comes out, only occasionally having an urge to hear the newer material. I'm pretty much the same way except debut through GuP and some of PoW. But I do have hope for the new album. The first two singles didn't do much for me, but HF really excites me. Definately has the potential in my world to be the best album since the 80s, but I worry that they released their best effort (HF) to build up the hype and that I will be disapointed with the rest. I still think that I will really like CA, but doubt that I will love it. I, too, expect to like it, but also doubt I will love it. I've liked songs on everything they've ever done, and I'm sure this will be a good one. But I'll be very surprised if it can come anywhere close to their best stuff.
  3. QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ May 5 2012, 03:53 PM) QUOTE (canadianice @ May 4 2012, 06:59 PM) QUOTE (Grimmflyer @ May 4 2012, 06:26 PM) Hey Guys,i'm new to the Forum and am surprised at the negativity towards the new songs.I've loved the Band since Hemispheres in 78,thought S&A is great and think it brilliant that we've got a new album to look forward to. Lets be grateful that the band are still around putting new stuff out and not treading the nostalgia path. Phew, rant over! negativity rules around here, get used to it. Welcome, by the way Yes, this is the most negative forum on the internet....welcome and you should have a blast! And soon, you too will learn the way of being a negative whiny Rush fan The biggest problem with Rush is that they aren't Rush fans. When you're out on the road every night playing the same stuff, you tend to tire of it much faster than your fan base. I've been listening to Rush for most of my life and I'm still not tired of the FBN through Signals period. I like a lot of the other material, but it's not the same type of of love affair. Many would still like to hear new music that was more in the style of the classic stuff. Every time a new album comes out, I'll listen for a while, then go right back to the classic period until the next one comes out, only occasionally having an urge to hear the newer material.
  4. QUOTE (jesse2112 @ Apr 26 2012, 09:19 AM) I kinda hope the setlist resembles the S&A tour in terms of balance considering the amount of new stuff and old stuff. I didn't mind the huge block of S&A at the beginning of set two. Yep.
  5. QUOTE (Todem @ Apr 26 2012, 07:17 AM) QUOTE (danielmclark @ Apr 24 2012, 04:58 PM) Songs they *shouldn't* play? Tom Sawyer Limelight Subdivisions Freewill Spirit of Radio Working Man 2112 Overture/Temples Songs we almost assuredly *will* hear? See above. Never going to happen. Never. All great songs to this day, all get the crowd going ape shit. I mean really. Tell me you don't notice the crowd rising to a fever pitch during every single one of those songs. I hope they always play those. Why not? So many people seeing Rush for the first, second, maybe only third time in their life. Not the 21st like me......and i still don't care if they play those. Seeing my son enjoy those classics is priceless. It's always about the new generation of fans not us old farts. We have seen so much. I am glad they stick to their guns and keep playing the standard classics. Otherwise 80% of the crowd will be sitting on their asses. Spread the love of Rush man. As far as what they should not play? Well they could give YYZ, Witch Hunt and Limelight a rest (They have given Limelight a rest before). I would be fine with only T.S and Red Barchetta from Moving Pictures. They don't need to play anything from Test For Echo, Vapor Trails or Snakes and Arrows. Their new album is plenty of modern day Rush for us. I hope they focus on their 76-87 period. Lot's of stuff from that era would make 90% of us thrilled. Exactly how I feel about those songs. My 9 year old son will be seeing Rush for the 2nd time and he will want to hear all of that stuff again.
  6. I know many of you are tired of certain songs that they always play, I have always believed it is in a band's best interest to have 4 or 5 songs like that. I don't have a problem with any band playing their 4 or 5 biggest hits every time out. That said, I wish Rush would alter their setlist dramatically from one tour to the next. And so what if Geddy can't sing the old stuff anymore...I still wish he would try. I don't mind if the vocals aren't perfect. So while I expect to hear Tom Sawyer, YYZ, Limelight, TSOR, Freewill, Subdivisions and maybe 2112, I'm hoping they'll play a few things they haven't played in a while. I don't want to hear too much of what they've played the last two tours, and regarding the albums from the mid-80's and later, I don't want to hear the same stuff they've been playing for the past 20+ years. That would basically include: The Big Money Force Ten Show Don't Tell Time Stand Still Roll the Bones Resist Leave That Thing Alone Stick It Out Animate Mission Earthshine Secret Touch Far Cry There are a few others, but this is the main group. There are a few songs that could go into this group, but I actually like them and don't mind hearing them (Workin' Them Angels, Dreamline, Marathon).

  8. QUOTE (losingit2k @ Feb 26 2012, 11:51 PM) [/quote] Well the reason have "Show Don't Tell" up there is because it has never appeared live on a DVD and lets face it, it's one of RUSH's better songs! Did you smoke something really bad before posting this?

  10. QUOTE (ghostworks @ Sep 18 2011, 07:33 PM) medleys=less time for actual songs let's hope they don't This. All the R30 Overture did was make me want to hear those songs that I wasn't going to hear. ***I still don't see why they can't just play the damn songs and Geddy can just do the best he can. A less than perfect Bastille Day would beat no Bastille Day at all.
  11. Stick It Out and Faithless for Bastille Day and A Farewell to Kings.
  12. I definitely noticed it right away in Nashville. we saw the St. Louis show last leg and the two shows were almost identical---the guys are just so consistent.
  13. Favorite Album - Hemispheres Least Favorite Album - Hold Your Fire A song that reminds you of someone OR a certain event - 2112 Favorite Epic - 2112 The album you listen to the most - Hemispheres or Fly By Night The first Rush song you heard - Tom Sawyer the first album you owned - 2112 A song that you wish you could play on an instrument - La Villa Strangiato A song that you know all the words to - (most of them from FBN-GUP) A song that you used to hate but now love - Marathon Your favorite song - Circumstances Favorite Song from Moving Pictures - Red Barchetta
  14. There is one surprise in the first set that I won't tell you about because then you won't be surprised when it hits you. But here's what I will share: I was surprised that more vault stuff didn't make it into the setlist. I was surprised by how much I loved Time Stand Still. I've never liked the song before, but this version with less synth and no Aimee Mann vocals is really, really good. I was surprised by the arrangement changes to Marathon and Closer to the Heart. I liked the Marathon changes and LOVED the new third verse for CTTH. I was surprised by how heavy BU2B sounded. Presto sounded great, but I wasn't surprised by that. The stage production is flawless, but I wasn't surprised by that either. You are in for a treat. Rush puts on one of the best live shows of any band EVER. I remember hearing Geddy say in an interview that he learned early on from touring with Kiss how important it was to bring your "A" game every night and to really give people their money's worth at each and every show.
  15. QUOTE (Apollo @ Feb 2 2011, 12:04 PM) QUOTE (micgtr71 @ Jan 17 2011, 06:27 PM) Still, I do not wish any changes to occur for this leg. You got your wish according to RIAB. I'm sure the complainers here (and I am one of them) are not surprised to hear that there will be no changes for the second leg of the Time Machine Tour. I am glad to hear this now so I don't need to bother getting a ticket. Quite alright with me. A couple of changes might have been nice, but this will be my son's first concert and I'm pretty sure he'll be happy with this set. I also have another Rush virgin going, as well as another friend who hasn't seen them since the T4E tour. It's all good.
  16. Workin' Them Angels isn't going anywhere. It not only has a "time" oriented theme but also makes references to MP.
  17. QUOTE (clem @ Feb 1 2011, 09:01 PM) QUOTE (Scars @ Feb 1 2011, 01:25 PM) Aside of them still playing Red Lenses, the HYF tour was near perfection. Don't think they played Red Lenses during HYF. I believe it was retired after PW,and even then, only a portion was played. Maybe you're thinking of another "Red" song? Clem Here is the Hold Your Fire setlist, according to Cygnusx-1.net. I was there and this is exactly how I remember it (worst setlist they've ever done): Intro ("Three Stooges Theme") The Big Money Subdivisions Limelight Marathon Turn The Page Prime Mover Manhattan Project Closer To The Heart Red Sector A Force Ten Time Stand Still Distant Early Warning Lock And Key Mission Territories YYZ The Rhythm Method (Drum Solo) Red Lenses The Spirit Of Radio Tom Sawyer Encore: 2112 Overture The Temples Of Syrinx La Villa Strangiato In The Mood
  18. Favorite- Red Barchetta, if I have to pick just one... Least favorite- Stick It Out (I thought it would be Time Stand Still, but I was shocked by how good it sounded last time)
  19. I'm taking my 8 year old to the Nashville show. It will be his first concert. He loves to stay up late and Rush is is favorite band by far. Visibility is my main concern, as our tickets aren't great (they aren't bad either). He's big for his age, but I plan on holding him for as long as I can if it will help him see. Thankfully, I've already seen the TM show once without him, so this will be more about him. We are going with another friend (who I went with last time) and his 15 year old son who has been to a few shows, but this will be his first Rush show as well. My best friend will also be there. I'm feeling good about it, but as always, I know my son will throw us a curve ball or two. He's been to many theatrical productions, NBA games, college basketball, college football, Major League and Triple A baseball, minor league hockey, Star Wars live, and other things like that, so the big crowd/loud arena thing won't be completely foreign to him.
  20. QUOTE (apetersvt @ Jan 31 2011, 03:23 PM) I like the setlist for the Hemispheres tour. No complaints from me on that one. "No complaints" is really the key. There are always things I could add or whatever, but to be happy with every song they play is an attainable goal.
  21. QUOTE (Kenneth @ Jan 31 2011, 03:00 PM) QUOTE (kelly leeks @ Jan 31 2011, 10:19 AM) when RUSH stops touring if fans will look back and say, "I enjoyed seeing RUSH live for 40-plus years, but they never got the setlist right. Not once." I find this hilarious, this is the exact opposite of how most fans expect other fans will reminisce! "Man I should have stopped bitching about the setlist and just have been glad they were touring at 78 years of age.." Yep.
  22. They've come very close a few times, and then other times they've really missed the mark. The Hemispheres tour is as close as they've ever come for what I would want to hear, but they closed with "In the Mood" and a drum solo. They could have finished a LOT stronger than that. The Hold Your Fire setlist was horrendous. The recent stuff isn't too bad. The Time Machine setlist is better than average because you don't have a new album clogging up 8-9 slots. I like that Rush is still doing new stuff, but aren't most of us really there for the classics? I thought the Time Machine setlist was really good, but maybe 2-3 songs away from being great. That said, the production is so high and the boys are playing so well these days, it was still one of the best shows I've ever seen, but I think the setlist needs another handful of songs from the vault. They could get rid of Stick It Out, Leave That thing Alone and Faithless and add 3 songs from the Fly By Night - Hemispheres era. I'd also like to see them flip Far Cry and Spirit of Radio. Only a few bands ever get it right. Phish, Pearl Jam, Grateful Dead, Wilco, Jimmy Buffett, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and others that play 2.5-3 hour shows and change the setlist nightly will eventually get it right once or twice. Just changing the setlist isn't enough. I've seen a lot of bands come close and I thought they would have played the perfect set had they just played a little longer. All of that said, I don't think it is realistic to ask a band to play the perfect set. "Getting it right" doesn't exactly mean "perfect" to me. The two best examples I can think of where a band "got it right" took more than one show to pull off. At Phish's Coventry festival for the Pharewell tour the last time they broke up, they maybe missed one song I'd like to have heard, but it took them 6 sets over 2 days to pull it off. The other example is Wilco a couple of years ago in Chicago. They played their entire catalog over a 5 night run, but you'd still have to make all 5 shows to hear everything.
  23. QUOTE (That One Guy @ Jan 20 2011, 01:41 AM) QUOTE (NoRoXiM @ Jan 19 2011, 07:16 PM) Swap Time Stand Still with Ceiling Unlimited. Swap Far Cry with Jacobs Ladder. No and no. Takin out Far Cry is unrealistic. It's a solid closer. Jacob's Ladder... That's a bid flaccid to end a show with. I'm all for The Trees being brought in with an Alex intro. I was a little sad it wasn't there in the first place. And a Lerxst Rant. We NEED one of those. I think Far Cry is a bad closer but a great opener, especially with the pyro like on S&A tour. I like a closer to be a classic, and I also like to get warmed up a bit before a band hits me in the mouth with a song like TSOR. Unlike some of you, I actually like the new arrangement for CTTH. Maybe that's because I don't much care for the original version. I really wish they'd swap it for The Trees, Circumstances, Bangkok or anything else old that they actually have the balls to still play. I don't really get this thing with Ged's voice. I've never heard of any other band refusing to play songs because they can't sing them in the same key anymore. We'd rather hear a song not be as good than not hear it at all. Stick It Out is a song I could really do without. Some of you mentioned getting rid of Time Stand Still, but this is the Time Machine tour. I don't think a song with "time" in the title is going anywhere.
  24. QUOTE (fordgt99 @ Jan 11 2011, 12:04 PM) It didn't matter to me that it wasn't played last year. It only mattered to me in that I always felt the set was one song short. More specifically, it was one "vault" song short. We all knew we'd get to hear The Camera Eye and Vital Signs, and the other older songs are songs that they have played for years. Last tour we got Entre Nous, Circumstances and A Passage to Bangkok. We didn't get anything on that level this time around. The closest we got to a song like that this time was Marathon or maybe Presto, but I want to hear something more from the classic period. If they are only going to do a handful of older songs, I really wish they wouldn't have filled one of those slots with Closer to the Heart. I like the new arrangement, but there is so much more from that era that I would prefer to hear. How about they scrap CTTH and Far Cry and just play all of 2112?
  25. I don't really think they'll change anything, but if they do, Stick It Out seems the likeliest candidate. If I could make a couple of changes, I'd start with getting Far Cry out of the closing spot. I like bands to close strong, with classics that everyone knows and loves. It would be fine with me if they just played a little more of 2112 and closed with that. They could move Far Cry to the encore, or swap it with Subdivisions. I'd also get rid of Stick It Out, Faithless and Closer to the Heart, although I did like the new arrangement for CTTH. I'd prefer to hear The Trees or Circumstances instead.
