A Series of Unfortunate Events -- Lemony Snicket

(the books get a little tedious by the end of the run [at least for an adult], but the first three or four have lots of clever word play and suspense)

Great choice!  We’ve read them all.

Way back in the dim and distant past, when I was a mere tween myself, I read the entire series and was captivated by the whole saga.

I wouldn't say "all-time greats" but still thoroughly engrossing -

William Horwood - Duncton Wood

                                   The Stonor Eagles

Richard Adams - Watership Down

                               The Plague Dogs

                                Shardik

Alan Garner - The Weirdstone of Brisingamen

"Harry Potter" seven series fantasy books written by J. K. Rowling.

My daughter absolutely loves those books.  She likes to go to sleep at night listening to the audible versions of them.

Maybe I over-stated things with the “all time great” thing.  Enjoyable, appropriate, and either intellectually or morally educational are usually my standards.

Back on topic......there's a low cost or free book app called Libby that probably has good recommendations.

Some young readers are very "brand loyal" to certain authors, others prefer audiobooks if they enjoy multitasking or are dyslexic.

What happened to this thread? :rofl1:

It took the usual TRF turn.:laugh::laugh:

The Chronicles of Narnia is already mentioned. I read it many times as a tween and immersed deeply in it.

Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials might be more appealing to teens, but it's worth keeping in mind for the near future.

I remember enjoying Robert C. O'Brien's Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. Oh boy, it was a thrill! I think I will have to find it in the vaults of our library.

Jim Dale does a fantastic job narrating them, have listened many times   Read it in hardcover first multiple times as well.

Brian Jacques' Redwall series (Redwall is the first book.) Kind of like Lord of the RIngs with mice and forest animals.

This is another one to enjoy on audio, Jacques is the narrator and then there is a cast for all the characters, lots of fun!

Since I love Greek mythology, have to recommend Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.  Takes a fun turn on the stories and a hero with ADHD.  Another audio version I love too.
