treeduck
Bowie all the way and with bells on! He even died in a cooler more dignified manner! No drugs or high heels killing him!
J2112YYZ
For someone who is only familiar with Bowie's hits, what album would you recommend to try first?
Entre_Perpetuo
For someone who is only familiar with Bowie's hits, what album would you recommend to try first? Depends on which hits you like more. If you really enjoy Let's Dance and Modern Love, go for the Let's Dance album. If you prefer Changes and Space Oddity and Suffragette City, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars is probably your best bet, or Hunky Dory. If you like stuff like Heroes and Fame and Golden Years, I'd go with Station To Station, maybe Low.

JohnnyBlaze
In my head I can hear competent versions of Bowie singing Purple Rain, and Prince singing Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes.

Both were musical gods. Both extremely versatile. Both are great examples of why putting artists within a musical genre is pointless.
invisible airwave
PrinceZiggyTimes Personally, I pick Aladdin Sane and Controversy for both. As far as acting, David is way better.

zepphead
For someone who is only familiar with Bowie's hits, what album would you recommend to try first? For me I would start with Hunky Dory and go chronologically. That way you would be going with the flow in terms of his metamorphic nature. Ideally a big binge session.

If you like those, branch out as EP suggested.

The Cat 3
I went with Bowie for the sweep. This in no way diminishes the brilliance of Prince. Both of those Prince albums are fantastic.

Rick N. Backer
This is a very tough matchup. Both artists have stuff I absolutely love, including the specific albums EP chose, and pretty much everything they've done is at worst interesting. Ziggy v. Purple Rain in particular is extremely competitive.
goose
Great matchup! Overall, I give it to Bowie. Prince takes the album matchup in both cases, though. Two of his very best.
bluefox4000
Prince across the board but i'm super biased, lol. and taking nothing away from Bowie who is outstanding as well. Mick
