Nova Carmina
Led Zep I Led Zep Jimmy Page I know Beck came first, I know he may have the purist bona fides, I know he missed fewer notes than Pagey, but Zeppelin had alchemy and power that Beck's music only nodded at. Beck's great, but there is greater.
zepphead
Technically Beck is the better guitarist but Page has all the magic, mystique and rockability!3 votes for Zeppelin.
custom55
All for Zep. I was late to the Jeff Beck party. I began to appreciate Jeff on his Blow by Blow and Wired albums. Edited November 19, 2020 by custom55
RushFanForever
I voted Jeff Beck for all three, including the Truth album. Truth is an underrated recording. There should be a vote for which version of 'You Shook Me' listeners prefer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I82dXbYWnN0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aywXuljytH0 Edited November 19, 2020 by RushFanForever

pjbear05
LZ 1, Beck, and Beck. Jeff didn't hit his stride until Blow by Blow and Wired. Surrounding himself with folks like Jan Hammer, Tony Hymas, and the incredible Tal Wilkenfeld, were huge. Live at Ronnie Scott's is stunning.

RushFanForever
Two different sounds. Becks Truth is one of a kind. Morning Dew is an amazing song. I learned something new. 'Morning Dew' was written by Canadian folk singer Bonnie Dobson. Her version first appeared on her 1962 live album At Folk City and then she recorded a studio version on her 1969 self-titled album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69otFQMbfUE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mraW_m5V1Gk An unknown Scottish bagpipe player played bagpipes on the Jeff Beck Group cover. This pre-dated AC/DC's use of the bagpipes on 'It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'N' Roll)'. On a side note, Robert Plant discusses 'Morning Dew' and performed the song with Dobson below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHoaIJ2Cqys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZXuuKwhVvI 'Morning Dew' was inducted into the 2018 Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. apetersvt
I love Jimmy, so gotta give the sweep to LZ. Especially since Pagey has the songwriting credit for Beck's Bolero.

As a Deadhead, I was well aware that Dobson wrote Dew as they were well known for their arrangements of it. Thanks for posting the Plant/Dobson version. Heard it about a year ago (probably right after it came out). Nice to hear it again.
HemiBeers
Beck's career is far superior to Page's. Since Zep, Jimmy does retread projects once in a while and sponging off the Zep royalties. Beck has never slowed down. Beck is always interesting to listen to and watch. Jimmy's been playing the same retread slop for years.

So I suppose if you compare the two guitarists' careers from 1980 onwards, Beck blows Page away. But in terms of career highlights, I will take Page's Zeppelin days every time. Rick N. Backer
Beck is one of those guys I've never really understood the love for. So many people worship him that I'm sure it's me, but I listened to Blow by Blow and Wired once each about 30 years ago to try and "get it." I didn't.
