Honestly -- and granted that it is the Rush Forum -- I wondered how many Rush albums would have won their years. '76? Probably '77, '78, '80, '81, but after that? Most of us probably prefer Rush in the macro sense, but in a micro year, maybe there was a better album?

Anyway, I like The Police, Tull's Heavy Horses, Whitesnake, Genesis . . .

but it's Van Halen I over Rainbow's Long Live in a squeaker.

Yup, Hemi would take it. But there are other spots of excellence:

Peter Gabriel, The Who, Bruford, Heart, Boston, Tull, UK, Dregs, but rising above them:

Van Halen’s debut is fantastic and there’s top notch albums from Priest, AC/DC, Scorpions and Styx.

But I have to cheer lead for UFO and their magnificent Obsession.

Hemispheres would probably win this poll easily, but would 2112 win the 1976 poll if it were in?

yes

I also did threads on Presto, Bones, and Test vs the more popular albums in those years. I specifically didn’t choose Hemispheres-Moving Pictures because those would blow away the other albums (because this is TRF).

VH I in a cakewalk, since the Cars debut was not listed. Edited by laughedatbytime

I would throw in The Cars debut album, my friends and I really listened to it a lot that year. The Cars and Blondie were so new and fresh sounding that year.

Overall, though, I voted for VH 1. Classic. Good call to include Kraftwerk, Man Machine is one of their best!

I had The Cars in for a while but I took it out and replaced it with either Heart or Journey. Once I get those 40 options filled and then I realise there's still a few of contenders I haven't considered, I just have to find someone to kick out to make way, and that's what happened there.

Ok I'll tell you what, since there's still time to edit, I'll put it in there for you. I think it was Journey that knocked The Cars out of the slot they were originally in, so it's appropriate that Journey gets the chop to make way.
