Top ten deep cuts by any artist!

Recommended Posts

Led Zeppelin

No Quarter

What Is And What Should Never Be

Since I've Been Loving You (I think this counts?)

Misty Mountain Hop

The Rain Song

The Rover

In The Light

Down By The Seaside

Ten Years Gone

The Battle Of Evermore

Dude, the radio has played the ever living shit out of What Is And What Should Never Be over the years. Pretty sure it's still a classic rock radio standard.

Not where I live. I've heard many Zep cuts on the radio, but never that.

Really? It's played as frequently as any other Zeppelin standard is.

As frequently as Whole Lotta Love? Stairway To Heaven? Black Dog? Fool In The Rain? Ramble On? I've heard No Quarter on a "Stairway to 7:00" special once, but never What Is And What Should Never Be.

Yep, that frequently.

I envy your local radio then, lol. Mine doesn't go that deep.

Deep? It's track 2 on an album that has sold 15 million copies. Hardly deep at all.

Explain that to my local stations that don't play it. First time I heard it was when I first listened to the album. Same as the first time I heard The Lemon Song, Thank You, and I think Moby Dick and Bring It On Home.

Thank You got some decent play with the Page and Plant unplugged version in the mid 90s. Don't recall ever hearing the original on the radio before that.

List of Zeppelin songs I've heard the radio play the crap out of are:

Good Time Bad Times

Communication Breakdown

Dazed and Confused

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

Whole Lotta Love

What Is And What Should Never Be

Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid

Ramble On

Immigrant Song

Hey Hey What Can I Do

Black Dog

Rock and Roll

Stairway

Going To California

Levee Breaks

Song Remains The Same

Over The Hills

Dancing Days

D'yer Mak'er

The Ocean

Trampled Under Foot

Houses Of The Holy

Kashmir

In The Evening

Fool In The Rain

All My Love

Traveling Riverside Blues

Seriously, all these got massive amounts of play on classic rock radio. Maybe they've scaled it back in recent times but all these were regular for years.

Most of those see plenty of play on my stations. Exceptions are What Is And What Should Never Be, Song Remains The Same, In The Evening, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Good Times Bad Times and Communication Breakdown (though I'm not sure why as I understand they're Zep's first iconic songs), Hey Hey What Can I Do, and Traveling Riverside Blues.

Zep is really tough as so many of their songs are played on the radio etc. Its just about choosing the 10 songs you rarely hear anywhere.

Hats off to Roy Harper

Out on the Tiles

Bron y aur Stomp

Wanton Song

Boogie with Stu

Black Country Woman

The Crunge

Candy Store Rock

Tea for One

Carouselambra

I absolutely love Wiser Time but it was pretty common at Crowes concerts. Definately in my top 5 Crowes tunes.

Back on My Feet

Wait

Ready for You

Welcome to the Club

I'm On Fire

Heading for a Storm

Waiting for the Night

Pedal to the Metal

Voodoo

Dressed to Kill

Vandenberg was an underrated band. The first album is particularly good. I saw them on that tour supporting Scorpions.

It's played a ton as well.

I guess our definition of "deep cut" will be whether you two remember hearing the track on radio. :P

I think I saw them supporting Ozzy after the first album came out.

Adam's Apple! LOVE that song

So does Mama Kin qualify as a deep cut? I've rarely heard it on the radio but they often play it live.

My British Boy Band list, thinking She's a Woman, Norwegian Wood, Tomorrow Never Knows, Baby You're a Rich Man, Dear Prudence and Across the Universe, though not singles (though Baby You're a... was a b-side), are too-well known by even casual listeners. Also, I realize No Reply and I'm a Loser lead Beatles for Sale, but I figure that understated but very excellent album is pretty much all deep cuts apart from Eight Day a Week.

Things We Said Today

No Reply

I'm a Loser

I Don't Want to Spoil the Party

I'm Looking Through You

I'm Only Sleeping

For No One

It's All Too Much

Julia

Long, Long, Long

Because

From the classic era:

Ice Cream Man

Bottoms Up

Women in Love . . .

Could This Be Magic

Dirty Movies

One Foot Out the Door

Secrets

The Full Bug

Top Jimmy

Drop Dead Legs

Now I've never thought Ice Cream Man was a deep cut. That one always played on my classic rock pandora stations when I was just getting into music years ago.
