I would say Petty is a better melody writer by far. Everything is just ear Candy.

Bruce's music Can be too. but i think he gets bogged down in his own bloated persona.

and if i'm not in the mood. he comes across lyrically as look at how deep i am.

Tom Petty by far. Bruce had one really good album with Born in the USA.

Bizarre.

The RIver is a stone cold classic. As is Born to Run.

Darkness and The Wild Innocent are also pretty solid throughout.

To you. To me they're boring.

I've listened to a big variety of music over the years because so many of my friends are musicians and have exposed me to lots of things I might not ordinarily listen to. I used to have a friend that was a big Bruce fan so I heard a lot of his music. While I can certainly appreciate it and I think it's OK, it's just not something that appeals to me to listen to repeatedly.

I used to kind of hate Bruce, so I get that. I would still probably hate Bruce if I hadn't let my curiosity get the better of me and I hadn't reached out to Segue about where to start...BTR hooked me almost immediately, and now I even enjoy most of BITUSA (the one with all the songs I hated), though I could still probably do without Glory Days....just too much hick culture there.

Honestly i think Born in the USA is one of Bruce's worst. a big part of that is the production.

Greetings From Asbury Park

The Wild The Innocent

Born to Run

Darkness ion the Edge of Town

The River

Tunnel of Love

All top notch albums

Throw In Magic.....a later day gem.......that's some damn fine records

For me I would add The Rising, The Promise and most of Tracks.

Just below these would be Human Touch, Lucky Town, Tom Joad and Nebraska.

Nebraska is a top three Springsteen album to my ears.

I actually think it's an amazing album. But it just hits my depression in the worst way.

I feel his thoughts and lyrics are blunt and honest and expressive. I believe him when he says the words and music flowed naturally.

You know how you might have an Artist who you KNOW is amazing.....but for some reason you hardly bother with? that was petty for me.

thanks to this thread i thank that ends.

Mick

Adam got me into him properly last year. When I have time and patience I will collect his best works.
