  3. Saxon are such a special band to me. Not sure why being slightly less than other bands is cause to dismiss them. They may not have an abundance of 10's, but they have a huge number of terrific 8's. I'm glad they are doing great with Priest. Because they are not newbies.

  4. He would also play on the side of the stage. So a lot of the time people couldn't even see him.

  8. I love this album. But I hear why it changed the game in 1995, I also hear how it's been bettered since, by PL and others. But the first time I heard it, it was my first goth metal album outside LC. So it impacted MASSIVELY. I love it, I love it so much...but I feel people miss out thinking its the last word in its style.

  9. If that is the case, and I'm not saying, nor will I admit to anything like that because I wouldn't think that, maybe, with Saxon, on the same bill as Judas Priest, they are, or were trying to perform at the same level as them. It does seem like a logical reason, and explanation.

  10. Rocka Rolla is actually one of my favourite seventies debuts. Judas Priest- Rocka Rolla Rush- Rush Saxon- Saxon Toto- Toto Bruce Springsteen- Greetings From Asbury Park N.J. Styx- Styx Kansas- Kansas I play these a lot more than many of their later classics. (The Styx debut is justifiably not a fave of many, but I love how all over the place it is)

  12. This is a good call. The stuff with Allison Krauss isn't really my thing but I can recognize that it's good. I really liked his album Carry Fire from a few years ago and he's had some other good ones post-2000 as well.

  17. Saturday's game against Edmonton was fantastic. Hard to believe this was the first time the Avs have played them this season. It was a close game but one big thing that stood out to me was how many more blocked shots the Oilers had against the Avs, we were shelling Skinner. But it remained tied at the end of the first. Second is when the scoring started, had a penalty shot and a goal disallowed for kicking it in between both teams. Our deadline trade pickups were doing a great job, Walker almost had a hat trick. Welcome back Lekhonen, this guy is a swiss army knife, can do it all. And with 0.2 seconds left scored the winning goal. We always go to overtime against the Oilers, it's fun but nerve wracking too.

  19. I've decided to give Priest a proper discography run. Will take me a while given the size but you gotta start somewhere. Rocka Rolla is better than I remember it being. It's not the Priest I know, but for 70s hard rock it's surprisingly solid, at least the first couple tracks and Diamonds and Rust.

  21. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication The horribly brickwalled mastering will always keep this a pace behind BSSM for me, but in terms of writing and performance it really aught to stand toe to toe. The singles of course are arguably the best songs the band ever wrote.

  22. Paradise Lost-Medusa (7/10) I liked this album. I will Admit the doom aspects do get same-y and it makes the album seem way longer than it is. I've never been big on this type of metal anyway. BUT on the posity side it's still catchy. Mick

  23. Mariah Carey- Mariah Carey The guitar work on Someday has me really wishing she rocked out more (label always toned that down for her, she loved rock as a teen) Opeth- Blackwater Park Paradise Lost- Paradise Lost Trivium- Ascendancy

  24. Geoff Nicholls was the keyboard player on all the albums from Heaven and Hell to Forbidden, that's 10 albums. He was also the live keyboard player but he also played rhythm guitar on certain songs. He's on all the live albums of that period as well but just listed as the keyboard player.

  29. Frank: "Well, when I see five weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's *my* policy." Mayor: "That was a Shakespeare-In-The-Park production of 'Julius Caesar', you moron! You killed 5 actors! " Happy Ides of March, everyone!

  33. I didn't like Jane Eyre the first time I read it but after multiple readings, I have come to like it a lot. Jane is really a strong person in such a harsh world and it was easy to root for her. I don't know if you like re-tellings but I found a fun series years ago called the Eyre Affair. It is set in a time where people can actually interact with characters from literature. Thursday Next is a Lit Detective and through a complicated set of events, Rochester appears to her and asks her to help him get Jane back from a kidnapper. It is so clever and funny with lots of inventive ideas and inside jokes. I started laughing from the first page on.

  35. IMHO, as highly regards John Steinbeck is I still hold that he is underrated. East of Eden and Grapes of Wrath are two of the greatest novels every written in any language at any time in history. Truly, that great.
