All the hype around Judas Priest's new album had me thinking. What other bands have had a great album late into their career that stands alongside their classic seminal works. It got me thinking about another band's 19th studio release: Rush - Clockwork Angels This was the first studio album release since I became a fan and I played the thing to death when it came out. Revisiting it earlier this year with Geddy's book made me realize how well it still sounded. Some people have soured to this one over the years, but it really stands up well for me still. Of the last three albums Rush released, this was the most inspired and fresh. Because of the novel and story, the album actually feels like it has a sense of direction and purpose.5 points

Judas Priest The last two. Blue Oyster cults last album was AMAZING. I really enjoyed the last rolling Stones and i'm not even a big fan. Iron Maiden. yes you can argue they're all too long which i agree but they all have Quality songs. Styx last two. Mick4 points

I almost forgot about Hackney Diamonds by the Rolling Stones. That album was far better than it had any reason to be.4 points

The last couple of Cheap Trick albums are tops. You guys already mentioned Priest and Maiden, yeah. Here's one: Overkill - 'Scorched'. Released last year. I'd argue that it's a better sounding album than the new Metallica record - and better songs too.2 points

I think millennial and later society has graduated past that point. I don't widespread expectations of having kids amongst the young anymore. The statement "when are you having kids" seems to have died. But now it's the expectation of a f***ing dog. "When are you guys getting a dog?" "We're not getting a dog ever, shut it, blue hair."2 points

Well some of the heavy hitters have already been called out for sure. I agree massively on Priest (Firepower and IS), Styx (The Mission and CotC), Springsteen (Western Stars, haven’t actually heard Letter To You), and our beloved Rush (Clockwork Angels). A couple others to toss in off the top of my head: Bowie - Blackstar Black Sabbath - 13 For me I think it’s less about exactly how long the artist has been around, and more about the sense that a record like this has really been a major uptick in quality or reputation from what their average had become over time.2 points

I'd include 90s bands. If a band's most popular album is more than 25 years old and they release something great now, that should count. Even that's strict considering a lot of classic rock/prog bands were considered old timers back in the 1980s2 points

Talking of bands who are definitely...erm...vintage, Styx immediately come to mind. Their last two albums are, honestly, close to their best work. Judas Priest are the obvious one, but honestly I think Saxon have not stepped a foot wrong since 1995's underrated Dogs Of War. For my money, they have had a better run of great albums than Priest or Maiden, unfortunately they never quite hit the heights of those two bands best works either. Their latest album, Hell, Fire And Damnation is a wonderful record that I refuse to overlook for the mighty Priest. In fact, I'm playing both new albums endlessly. 2017's Incorruptible by Iced Earth was an absolute blast from start to finish. The two albums before it I love as well. Paradise Lost began in the late eighties. Their last album is regarded more and more by fans as perhaps their best work, top five at least, definitely. Styx- The Mission Styx- Crash Of The Crown Saxon- Thunderbolt Saxon- Carpe Diem Saxon- Hell, Fire And Damnation Paradise Lost- Obsidian2 points

Asked my grandpa if he listened to the new Judas Priest album; mentioned that i was reading a lot of people claiming it was "one of their best", and "especially impressive considering they're all in their 70s" He laughed and said it was "nowhere near their best work", and that the band has been steadily downhill ever since the lead singer came out of the closet.2 points

According to Guinness... "The most decimal places of Pi memorised is 70,000, and was achieved by Rajveer Meena (India) at the VIT University, Vellore, India, on 21 March 2015. Rajveer wore a blindfold throughout the entire recall, which took nearly 10 hours." And Wiki... "Akira Haraguchi holds the current unofficial world record for reciting 100,000 digits of pi in 16 hours, starting at 9:00 a.m. (16:28 GMT) on October 3, 2006."1 point

Kenny had a good show last night. He and Ripper did quite a few Priest covers. Their originals were fine. Very innoffensive. It more made me think of what a triumph this album is. Instead of buying The Sinner Rides Again, I played Invincible Shield on the way back lol Side note: Their opening band, Burning Witches were awesome. A really fantastic all-woman power metal band.1 point

Peaches En Regalia alone gives the album a top 15 spot for me. I'll admit the rest of the album isn't up to par with that track, but it's still great.1 point

i'll tell you why....i'm not a fan of all instrumental albums. simple as that. i appreciate the talent on there but i get bored really quick if there's no vocals. i can deal with an isolated instrumental on an album. which Zappa has done too. but a full album i just zone out. i mean it does have one vocal in Willie The Pimp but that's it, Mick1 point
