  4. Triumph- Allied Forces Helloween- Pink Bubbles Go Ape I think it's truly amazing Helloween made a global impact. I know they came first, but my GOD they have a tonne of terrible albums. Pink Bubbles is bad but its also amongst their least awful. And yet I'm enjoying them, go figure

  6. I also wonder what they were thinking naming the album Virgin Killer? That idiotic choice falls completely on the band.

  7. 100& agree - Triumph was not Rush lite. My ears also tell me they are a different kind of band. Also agree that he was a tremendous singer and guitarist. Triumph was an excellent live band - was lucky enough to see them in person on The Sport of Kings tour. Wonderful show.

  9. Iconic is not a word I would use to describe them. Iconic is bands like Maiden, Metallica, Priest. Overall they're mid tier in the grand scheme of metal. Their first three albums help build the groundwork for the power metal genre and that's pretty much it. They're not that big of a band and they have been pretty much living off those three albums for close to four decades now.

  11. Dio-Sacred Heart (8/10) I remember when i was getting into Dio Everything thing i read said Sacred heart was a letdown. and I guess in the context of those first 2 it is......but still really enjoy it Particulary the title song, Rock And Roll Children, Just Another day and Fallen Angel. Hungry for Heaven as a single would have rubbed the strict metal bros the wrong way and Shoot Shoot have possibly the stupidest hook i've ever heard but i really like everything else. Mick

  12. No need to apologize. We're about a decade apart if my math is correct. I'm a firm believer in the idea that your musical taste is roughly formed between the ages of 13 and 23, give or take. The mirror image of your point explains why, for example, I don't really like too much prog. By the time I was 13 in 1980, the prog bands were largely gone. CAVEAT for the pedants: Yes. I know there are people who were born after me who love prog.

  19. You can still like them and agree with the negatives. I think they have excellent albums and songs, but no real musical identity. And that's okay, a lot of great music from the seventies and eighties is a joy just because it rocks.

  20. They knew it was outrageous and went ahead with it. I think they thought they were the edginess edge that ever edged

  22. Just after sunset in the west tonight! This is Jupiter and Venus (Venus on the right looking larger and brighter because it is closer to Earth.). Tonight's the night! This is the closest they will be in the next nine years! Tomorrow, Venus will be higher in the sky and continue to rise more each night.

  23. If you look into it, the record label was insistent. The band was mortified. But the seventies was an unusual time. I'm not one to ever censor art, but there are exceptions. Interestingly, the model has always been okay with it.

  24. I also really hate Scorpions pedo-friendly artwork for Virgin Killer. I love that album, but I can't understand what the label was thinking. The band didn't approve it.

  28. The Rolling Stones - A Bigger Bang The Rolling Stones - The Brussels Affair. Early 70s Stones live albums are so great because their discography was exploding with "must play," songs. The run of albums from Beggars Banquet to Goats Head Soup does not have a single wasted track.

  35. We were looking at them last night, apparently even with good binoculars you can see some moons of Jupiter (good luck holding them steady enough!), but yes Venus was very bright! It's a great thing, sky stuff - we can often see the same thing from many parts of the continent and share a moment.

  41. Same here. I think Rik Emmett is extremely under rated as a guitarist. Dude was doing EVH stuff before EVH. The solo in Rock n Roll Machine is so f***ing insane!

  42. I really love Edguy. Great albums. And I enjoy Avantasia to a point, but the guest vocals on newer albums become distracting. Like Ayreon, it just feels overly contrived after a while. But I definitely think your assessment on their best works are right! I didn't realise for ages that they were connected to Edguy. On the old Nightwish forum (oh, how I miss it), I remember there being lots of heated discussions of who was better. I think the majority felt the best works were by Edguy, but Avantasia is hardly unworthy of praise. I also like Gloryhammer, Rage and on that note, I guess I have always been a power metal fan and didn't realise 😅

  43. Radio was still good in the 90s too. It was probably about 15 or so years ago when things started changing for it since people were using the internet more to find music. Sirius XM is better as there are stations that will play deep cuts and bands that normally wouldn't get played elsewhere. I usually listen to Ozzy's Boneyard or Liquid Metal. Ozzy's Boneyard plays old school rock and metal. Liquid Metal plays metal from all eras. They've done a decent job of raising the profile of some newer metal bands. Octane is the modern hard rock station although a decent amount of what they play does lean towards metal. Alt Nation is something to listen to when you're in the mood for rock that doesn't quite fit the normal mold.

  44. Growing up poor, one of my few joys was casual birdwatching. There's tons of info online about how pesticides have hurt wild bird populations. So any support of feather friends is good indeed.
