  1. Played a great gig last night :guitar: The highlight was after finishing my 5+ minute Freebird guitar solo, I heard someone in the audience shout out "That was F*<&ing Amazing!" :haz: Made my night :)

  2. Narps...really? I know you're old and your ears are wearing thin, but you like The Garden(I love it) and Halo Effect(I dig it), but you don't recommend The Anarchist, Headlong Flight, Seven Cities of Gold or Carnies? Those songs all have a lot of balls, and are very amazingly arranged. I get the production/mixing could make the listening experience better on the ears, but those songs are great tunes. But yes...opinions are opinions

  3. I must respectfully disagree with Narps. There is so much more greatness on Clockwork Angels!

  5. Thanks Neil Some of my all time favorite musical moments have come thru RUSH, and the power of music should never be underestimated

  6. I can understand his opinion. After doing something as physically and emotionally demanding for 40 years and going through what he went through after T4E, I bet he's happy to enjoy potential retirement. And a second chance at a family, I wouldn't want to let that go, either.

  7. Clockwork Angels is a great album! As people say the production does leave a bit to be desired but they're great songs with brilliant music and quite an interesting story. The Anarchist is my favourite so I'll recommend that ;)

  8. Yes! I don't hear how the early heavy stuff (The Necromancer, Cygnus, etc) are any different from the heaviest things on Clockwork Angels. I mean, they are different, yes, sure- as different as the number 60 is from the number 25. But...to each his own.

  9. "Well I don't really think the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you." - David St. Hubbins http://ww1.hdnux.com/photos/25/30/74/5607204/6/960x540.jpg

  10. That and these other idiots who park all crooked and don't straighten out their vehicles, pretty much negating a parking spot on one side of them (which is probably their intention). :eyeroll: The actual statistical break down of reasons for crooked parkers are as follows: 42% Intentional 26% Poor parking skills 20% Oblivious/clueless f***s 12% Other/miscellaneous stupid ass reasons

  11. The Garden is one of the best on the record for sure. Love Alex's solo.

I mean, they are different, yes, sure- as different as the number 60 is from the number 25. But...to each his own. You can hear every instrument clearly on COS. :P Mick Well...there were only three of them. :D Same as the present day, though. Not much room in the 21st century material for keyboards and such. Obviously The Garden is an exception because of the strings. But anyway...

  14. Why not start at Caravan, and work your way through to The Garden. Listen to the entire album in order, instead of bouncing around.

  21. Love that shot from the Seattle show with the pyro going off! I think Neil should release a big book of photography taken during his long rides. I find the pictures in his blog much more interesting than the narration of them. He certainly has a continued lucrative career as an author if he wants one though. He's totally mastered the skill of using a boatload of words to ultimately say very little.

  28. 25 October 2015 Tomato Frog Endemic to Madagascar, tomato frogs (Dyscophus antongilii) live up to their name by possessing a vibrant, orange-red colour. Females are much larger than males and have brighter tones of red or orange on their back, with a pale undersurface. Some individuals also have black spots on the throat. It is thought that the brilliant colours of the tomato frog act as a warning to potential predators that these frogs are toxic; a white substance secreted from the skin acts as a glue to deter predators (such as colubrid snakes) and can produce an allergic reaction in humans. It is a species adapted to live in quite open spaces, usually in marshes and still-water channels. It does not occur within rainforests, although it needs humid sites. Like other representatives of the family, it is terrestrial and fossorial, and is mainly active during rainfalls. Tomato frogs breed in February to March following heavy rainfall; the sounds of males calling to attract females can be heard around small water bodies in the dark Malagasy night. Following copulation, females will lay a clutch of 1,000 to 15,000 eggs on the surface of the water. Tadpoles hatch from these small black and white eggs about 36 hours later; they are only around six millimetres long and feed by filter-feeding. Tadpoles undergo metamorphosis into yellow juveniles, and this stage is completed around 45 days after the eggs were laid. Ambushing potential prey, adult tomato frogs feed on small invertebrates. When threatened, these frogs can inflate themselves, giving the appearance of greater size. Numbers of the tomato frog have been declining as a result of habitat degradation, pollution, and the over-collection of these brightly coloured amphibians for the pet trade. 31. But the Priest sound isn't cheesy when they do it because they are the originators of that sound. It's the hundreds of copycat metal bands out there who are the cheesy ones. shitty music is shitty music, even if you did it first. most of point of entry, a good chunk of defenders of the faith, most of turbo and ram it down. compare that to rime of the ancient mariner, caught somewhere in time, seventh son, to tame a land... A lot of the new Maiden stuff is pedestrian repetitive stuff

  35. I'm your Metal Sister, Earl :haz: You don't need a reboot, though--just keep rokken! Thank you my dear! You are AWESOME! Metal keeps me strong! I'm going through a tough time right now. All I will say is that it sucks when you make good money and your wife doesn't work. 18 years later you divorce and the bread winner has to pay for everything. Killing Me! I will keep ROKKEN WITH DOKKEN! I WILL NEVER DATE AGAIN! Cheers!! I apologize for using the wrong gender. I'm an idiot. Earl You're welcome, Earl, and thank you! Yep, sounds like a rough time indeed--but you're far too metal to succumb to this :) No need to apologize, either, and you're certainly not an idiot. It's all good, man! Thank you my Metal Sister! Things are heating up and I am not doing well. It's true. Thank goodness for METAL! I will do the "BEST I CAN." Earl You're welcome, Earl! Thank goodness for metal indeed--it's rough I'm sure but you'll pull through this! Thank you! Saw Priest on Tuesday. Ghost last night! JANE'S ADDiCTiON TONIGHT!!!! All shows at The Warfield!! YES!!! I wish I could see Bob Marley. Signed, "No Woman No Cry" :) Right on, man! Hope you're enjoying your run of concerts  No Woman No Cry indeed Hahaha! Thank you Bean! All i can do is laugh and ROCK! I'm in a good place right now. Ghost Rules. Jane's tomorrow. "Habitual" record all the way through. I will have to wear my Depends. LOL! Kidding. King Diamond and The Cult and Night Ranger in November. I have to keep it going to remain calm. What irony. You are AWESOME!!! Cheers to you! :martini: :martini: You're welcome, Earl, and thank you! I'm glad to hear that you're in a good place. Nothing wrong with rocking Depends since they're playing an album like that! Enjoy the show--sounds like it should be awesome! You've got quite the lineup of concerts there; good for you! Cheers to you, too, you metal madman (I mean that in a good way)! Hahahahaha! Thank you! You are very sweet! LOL! I am a METAL MADMAN!!! But I love jazz too. ;) I love it all to be honest! Music keeps me balanced! Cygnus! But The God Of Rock And Roll I shall be! That's a joke. I am not a self absorbed narcissist like my ex thinks. I just want to have fun! Cyndi Lauper right? "Earls Just Want To Have Fun!" Bad joke! But I don't care! I wil never change! If Rush was playing in Toronto I would hop on a plane and met you. Serious. I did the R30 Tour. It was a blast! Orbit Room and all! College Ave! Who knows! Life is short. You seem cool like everyone on here! Hope I don't lose my internet service once I become free! HAHA! "Freewill" "Fly By Night!" Thank you I'm with you on jazz--the more raucous the better, for me anyway! "Earls Just Want To Have Fun!" :laughing guy: oh man... Thanks for counting me as one of the cool kids Who knows, maybe someday the boys will grace us with another show and more meet-ups can happen for the occasion. Yeah you'd better not lose Internet service; what'll this place do without ya?! Ducky and I would have to defend Priest all on our own! :madra: Hey I would defend Priest. Not above Maiden though. Some things should be sacred. Gimme some damn funky soul jazz with balls like some John Patton or Larry Young. If you don't know either of these artists you should. Pronto. The jazz will sustain our friendship through all of this bickering over Priest vs. Maiden  Without a doubt up the irons.

  37. There's a lot of truth to that on many levels. For fans who don't mind reading (!), Neil is probably the most accessible of the three. He actually gives his fans a lot more of a hint into his own thoughts, ideas, and behaviors through what he writes than Alex or Geddy ever really do in interviews. But... the old knock on Neil is that he's not personable because he's painfully shy to the point of probably being a jerk when faced with an awkward situation.

  38. Neil is god-darned lucky to have such a supportive fan base, which respects his 40+ years of oustanding work, his personal privacy, and his right to retire whenever he wants......

  39. Yo Bean! You crack me up! My Depends are on!!! Seeing Jane's at the Warfield is going to make me shit myself! Perkins! One of the best drummers period! As for jazz give me Miles, Cobham, Larry Carlton, Coltrane, Mangione and John McLaughlin! Al Di Meola! Dave Weckl! Hey Bean what is your real name? U can pm me if you want to be private! Anyway!! Once agIn I totally back the Duck!!!! To be honest I think every Maiden album after Seventh Son is mediocre at best. IRON/DC! Lol Up The Bells!!!!!! Boring shit Priest at least experimented and took risks. It also must be mentioned that Bruce doesn't even come close to Halford in vocal range. Also Rob is actually a sweet caring gentleman. Bruce is just like his last name! A "SON OF A DICK!! Arrogant, self absorbed narcissist!!! GHOST is better than Maiden!!!

  40. It's the chord that Hemispheres opens with Thank you for answering me. That's what that sound is? It doesn't sound the same as in Far Cry. The first chord is, not that swirling sound as the song starts. Am I hearing it at almost the end too? At about 15:58? I can play it on guitar and can confirm the chord does play there. It's a cool chord! That is the coolest chord in the history of music! Well, maybe after that final chord of A Day in the Life. Pretty good second though. And Seque, you are so right about TMMB. The Larger Bowl was the first song that grabbed me on the album (Alex's guitar mainly, but I like it all, apart from the woo-oo's maybe) but it was TMMB that eventually made me realize that Rush was/is as awesome as ever! I'd always resented everything post-MP for not being Hemi/PeW/MP, but TMMB made me realize that even if they had never made those albums, Rush would still be an all-time great. I love S&A. I skip The Way the Wind Blows (too bombastic and preachy for me, though I admit that me calling something preachy is ironic), and I'm sometimes not in the mood for the plodding heaviness of Armour and Sword, but I pretty much love the rest of it. Glad you've seen the light!
