Seeing Rush with my dad for the first time in 2002 on the Vapor Trails tour - my first concert! My love of Rush is steeped in a larger family "tradition," and although I simply was't around for the glory days, it was a thrill to get to see them live after years of relying on cassettes and CDs.

  1. With how many Rush fans there are out there, couldn't we all just chip in a little bit and make sure it gets in the right hands? A Kickstarter or sorts?
  2. Retired Neil Peart Not Retired Geddy Lee Chilling on Vacation Alex Lifeson

    Retirement Man

He wants to stay in bed just as long as he can yes, he sleeps in till 12. He's retirement man.
  4. Obviously I feel a little sad. Mostly daunted by the thought of a world without Rush playing and writing new music. This is a new paradigm for everyone now. That said, it is and always has been Neil's prerogative. We got 40 badass years from the guy which included some of the greatest rock drumming ever. What more can we ask for? The guy should go and be with his family now. It's what he's always wanted.
  5. Love the fade out on The Big Money. Lots of great and creative song endings on Power Windows as a whole.

    The Garden

The Garden is one of the best on the record for sure. Love Alex's solo.
  7. It's not really a matter of his technical proficiency on the keyboard. Geddy will be the first to admit (and has already admitted) that he is limited to what he can do. What makes Geddy a great keyboard player is his composition skills. He can craft a melody and song structure no matter what instrument he is required to use: bass, keyboard, or his voice. I'm not sure who the primary "songwriter" is for Rush (most credits say Lee/Lifeson) or if there even is one....but Geddy's compositional skills and their impact on Rush cannot be overrated
  8. Saw this acoustic version of Resist on the Vapor Trails tour - my first concert ever. What a great idea! I love it too.
  9. Don't normally listen to Rush at night. It's normally my soundtrack for driving everywhere. But sometimes on special occasions.... ...like when it thunderstorms, Jacob's Ladder comes out! During an eclipse or full moon, time to bust out Earthshine.
  10. That 2112 "train wreck" is hilarious- you can hear Alex first tries to adjust to fix it, then Neil also adjusts so they still are off like where they started. Actually just goes to show how much they're listening to each other on stage.
  11. The unpopular opinions thread is that way >>>>>>>>>> ;) Only kidding!
  12. yes!! I want in on this PoW love fest! When I was 13 my dad introduced me to Power Windows. I was in a "Rush family," so I already knew all the hits but I hadn't experienced certain albums as a whole. I remember my dad listening to the album every time we drove somewhere for what seemed like months. I got very familiar with all of the songs, even the lesser known gems like Grand Designs and Emotion Detector. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I consider PoW to be one of those Rush albums with no tracks worth skipping. Like Moving Pictures, I can just put it on and let it go. So much fine drumming on this album. The drumming during Alex's 7/8 solo in Marathon is fantastic, Big Money of course is groove city, and Mystic effing Rhythms!!!!! Those Tama drums just SING!
  13. Haven't seen any, but highly recommend people check out Lotus Land on Youtube. Listen to their cover of Hemis Prelude - when the singer comes in it sounds like Geddy in his prime.
