  1. Hey everyone, happy Easter :). I just wanted to share this project that I spent almost all day working on. When it comes to decorating Easter eggs, I like to go all out. This is definitely the best Easter egg creation that I have ever made and I'm very happy with how it turned out. I would have drawn some amps and stage decorations, but by the time I was finished I just wanted to leave it as is. I hope you like it, have a great Easter if you celebrate it. Rush on!

  2. This is my favorite album for a few reasons. Bastille day rocks and has brains. Lakeside Park is a nice setting song with nostalgia, though i agree it's better on ATWAS. ITIGB is fun and riffy, but is my least favorite on the album. But I love the epics. The guitar on Necromancer is among Alex's best, and both are soundtracks to interesting stories, the first time Rush did this well.

  3. This thread has put the following thought in my mind: Time to turn off the tv and computer. Warm up the amp. Plug in the PRS. Jam along with COS.

  5. Yes to this one. Even though its from a period I don't particularly care for (post 85') this song jams and allows room for some fun too.... :codger: :haz:

  6. Welcome, Segue, into the fold! Caress of Steel is a monster! By the way...you picked the right day to post about your love for this album. It's clearly the most THC-influenced of RUSH's catalog. :smoke:

  7. + Juan. I love his tone on COS. Clarity with balls, that peaked with hemispheres.

  8. So Rush had released two albums prior to Caress Of Steel, "Rush" and the underrated "Fly By Night". But I think most will agree that Rush truly found their feet with Caress Of Steel, an album which featured two of the bands first epics (I would rank By Tor And The Snow Dog as the bands first). Some regard it as a classic, others think it was a poor test run for the superior 2112. My verdict? I have come to enjoy CoS almost as much as AFTK, 2112 and Hemispheres. Usually I say my favourite album streak began with 2112 and ended with MP, but now I will start from CoS, as it has grown on me to become one of my very best Rush albums. I know there are probably many similar threads to this, but recently a very good discussion began based on my personal favourite, A Farewell To Kings, but now I have come to truly understand and enjoy CoS, I want to find out more of what you think of this wonderful album. Its taken me two years, only now am I ready to call this a classic album. (Some may have noticed in my top ten Rush albums I booted off Roll The Bones and replaced it with this!)

  9. I can play this game too. I'd love to hear this song again, and Geddy could handle it.

  10. :D Seriously, though. We never heard of this one again after the T4E tour. Say what you will about the album, this song is too good to be forgotten.

  11. That song is SO overdue. It should absolutely be put in an encore medley like the old days. And it may be very appropriate if this ends up being their last big tour.

  12. One of the most emotive Rush songs musically. I didn't fully appreciate it on the Time Machine Tour, would love to see it brought back again

  15. I love the production on this album; the bass and drums sound strong and clear and when all 3 are jamming you can hear everything. More than any other album, they play with confidence or conviction. My love for Cygnus x-1 has waned somewhat over the years. I love the title track but find the transition to closer to the heart at the end to be awkward and the only weak point in that song. Perhaps they were forcing a connection with the song. In any event, great production and playing and keys allowed to take a lead part without dominating the over all sound. Great album. I don't think digital is responsible for the poor sound of more recent albums, but poor choices with digital are. If bands recorded digitally but with similar limitations on tracks and processing, this sound could be duplicated.

  17. I should like it better live as it is so thin on the album, but I don't really want to hear it live. If we were going to pick a Presto song, I would go for Chain Lightning.

  18. I love that one. At first I was unsure about the two killers, but I think it works, because no other killers in the history of the show underestimate Columbo as much as these college kids... and it's great watching them realise they've been outsmarted. Also, it's great to see three-time Columbo killer Robert Culp show up again.

  21. It took me awhile to 'get COS as well. Being on this forum for many years, there have been a LOT of similar comments that is the album that takes awhile to absorb more than any other. I became obsessed with Rush around the age of 14-15. It didn't become my favorite until I was 20. Most likely related to when I started smoking weed in college and got my mind in the same realm as the band was when they recorded it. Then I really understood it.

  23. Yeah, this one along with Test for Echo are two 90s era (Presto feels like a 90s album) songs that really need the reboot.

  24. Truthfully, in my opinion, CoS was a pretty weak follow up to the stellar Fly By Night. I've listened to it time and again but somehow cannot locate the superior greatness that others find in this album. Bastille Day is by far my favorite track and while the two long epics were decent attempts at much greater things to come, I still feel as though the album fell flat coming off of Fly By Night. When I listen to Anthem, Fly by Night or By-Tor and the Snowdog, I almost can't believe that CoS came after that album.

  29. I love ITIGB and Lakeside Park is one of my favourite slow Rush songs. Bastille Day is my favourite song of the first three albums...the epics are both fantastic. The guitar work on this album is beyond superb...

  30. Caress Of Steel is a great record, the only weak song being ITIGB, which just doesn't fit in with the rest of the material. Very strong album in my view, and often quite unfairly maligned.

  39. The song has already been documented live since it's on the R30 DVD. Save that spot for something else from that time period that they haven't done in years like The Enemy Within or The Weapon.

The embarrassing filthy gas station was all I had and in my freak'in tux.....

  42. Not to nitpick my brother but I was with you till AC/DC. I was a huge fan of theirs to in 1977 and was wearing out everything from LTBR back on my turntable. When Highway To Hell came out it got a little play but of course not until Back In Black did anybody seemingly but me know who they were. Just how I remember it. They were hated or at least ignored by my recollection...... :) I'm with you guys. AFTK was the first new Rush release that came out after I got into 2112 and ATWAS. My buddy and I rode our bikes to a record store called Licorice Pizza and picked it up the day it came out. There was no airplay so we had no idea what to expect. Needless to say we were a little confused upon first listen, but we sat in his room and played it over and over and eventually were freaking out on how awesome it was, especially Xanadu. Some of our other friends that were into 2112 and ATWAS weren't getting it. A few months later, we had our minds blown watching them perform it live from the 8th row at the Santa Monica Civic. Definitely some good memories. "a record store called Licorice Pizza...." Ah, those were the days... you ain't kiddin' http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zUKAZsPQn-w/UinlEi0v8UI/AAAAAAAAA8E/FddkungMx2Q/s1600/licorice_pizza.jpg

  44. After 3 Rush concerts I've only seen a single pot smoker about 10 rows ahead of where I was, and everyone in the immediate vicinity instantly asked him to put it out. Is weed supposed to be common at Rush concerts? Anyway, a Rushtime express would be awesome. Maybe call it the Dream Line? :P

  46. Well, i guess if everyone else is doing it.... Drop the tour next tour...No one goes to see Rush anyways, sounds like a good time to sign on to a big fat residency somewhere...and by residency I mean no performance (given the unanimous decisions from this forum, to rule out solos, instruments, vocals, stage production, etc.)...just the three of them sitting on stage staring with intense judgement.
