  5. Alex is under rated because people don't understand his genius. Hendrix, Van Halen, Stevie Ray, etc. shove it down your throat. They're obviously good and you'd have to be an idiot to miss it. Alex's genius is a little left of center.Plus in a band where everybody shines, often at the same time, his playing can be missed if you're not paying attention. His genius lies in subtlety, finding where tones are lacking or filling voids, harmonies tones, making the odd seem normal. How many people can write a song with constantly changing time signatures and make it radio friendly to the point where people don't even notice the time signatures. Limelight constantly revolves through 4/4, 3/4, 6/8 and 7/8 time signatures and flows beautifully. He does get under rated but only by people who have never tried to play it.

  6. I got home a few hours ago. Thanks to all the lovely people here for the prayers and well wishes. You guys helped me more than you know lying in that hospital bed for days. Kept me thinking and laughing. Hopefully this surgery will be the ticket and after some recovery time I will be better than ever. Again, much thanks and peace and love to all of you.... :)

  7. I like facebook for a couple of reasons. Its a great way for friends to see pictures of you and your family that would be otherwise missed. It's also great for reconnecting with friends that had fallen by the wayside. Other than that...I really don't have much use for facebook, and think it's narcissistic to post the insignificant happenings of your life throughout the day. Who really gives a rats ass what you had for lunch.

Its probably the ladies looking multiple times.... :sarcastic: :laughing guy: It was probably all Xanadoood during that argument about Seymour-Hoffman...

  19. How do you come up with this stuff? Sit in a darkened room and sniff model airplane glue? I'll have to give that a go, since I could certainly use some help in writing new material.

  20. I say All My Love. With the buttload of stuff that's was going on in that time period, it was incredible to see those guys pull a pretty great track in that album. Plus, John Paul Jones' keyboard parts, especially the solo, was awesome.

  24. These are some of my favorite Tom Waits songs: "Martha" "Tom Traubert's Blues" "16 Shells from a Thirty-Ought-Six" "Downtown Train" He's an artist I always appreciated, but I never gave his discography a proper and respectful listen. Anyway, he's one of a kind and an American treasure. I'm going to spin some Tom Waits tonight...

  31. Whenever that very last show is played (my guess is fairly soon, within two – three years) I say they should go out with guns a’blazin’… Toronto IS the best city for the show, and the Rogers Centre (where the Blue Jays play baseball) should be the venue. The place holds about 60,000 and yes, I know that Rush wouldn’t normally play there. They’d normally play the ACC (hockey arena, 14,000) or the Molson Amphitheatre (outdoor venue, 16,000.) But, I think that since it would be the very last show, people would fly in from all over the planet and they’d fill that place with ease. Probably need 2 or 3 shows. And, a concert video would be a no-brainer. So, whenever the boys finally decide to pack it in, I think they owe to their hometown go out where they first came in…

  33. Change the asparagus to broccoli or green beans, and I'll be there in 6 hours. No, see, I bought this asparagus and I have to use it. Besides, I'm making a broccoli gratin to go with a roast chicken we'll be having in a few days. I'm green beaned out atm. Asparagus is yummy! What if I wrap it in bacon? Will the asparagus be grilled, at least? Dude, you're feasting on filet mignon and tequila drunk jumbo shrimp. Does it matter how the asparagus is prepared? You.... you picky eaters.... Well you didn't notice me asking about how the filet and the shrimp are being prepared, did ya? :sarcastic: I would be obligated to put at least two asparagus spears on your plate. As long as you eat one, you can have dessert and stay up late. That's the rule at my dinner table. Of course, I'm assuming the steak and shrimp would be hoovered.

  34. And gravy? Mmmmmm no. I don't have any gravy atm. Whenever I roast a turkey, I end up with a lot of good gravy and I freeze it but I don't have a stash any more. The meat and taters will be flying solo tonight. Although I do slather the loafed meat with a ketchup, brown sugar, dry mustard mixture which is sooooooooo good. http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff508/blackcc/GIFs/anigif_enhanced-1134-1393241643-1_zps2da4a243.gif There you go with the goats again... 38. I used to think about such things in school often. My Spanish teacher in high school in particular..... :) As a female, I can't think of a teacher I actually had in HS that I would have bumped uglies with. But, I have imagined an English teacher who looked a lot like Geddy Lee... Mmmm funny I've imagined a History teacher that looks a lot like Mr. Lee. I wrote a short story about an English teacher in an all-girl school. His physical characteristics were pretty much Mr. Lee, but I used a different name ;) So, he was ugly too........ :D Why do you want a punch in the balls Narp? I don't get it.

  41. The Yukon Blade Grinder Europe The Quest for Captain LeComte Epilogue In the words of the immortal John Entwistle: what a f***ing anticlimax, dear readers. Dust seemed to float aimlessly in the void, never touching soil, while Captain LeComte, or super-actor Ethan Hawke if you prefer, lowered his gun with a look on his face that would freeze molten lava. The lifeless body of the Black Dwarf, Holierthanthouy, former member of the Pope SS, the Vatican secret science team, fell down like a potato sack. Almost out of nowhere, the other dwarves of the Pope SS and Francis "Big Buy" himself appeared on the Unter den Linden and gently carried away their lost brother. Francis and Hawke exchanged a long stare, and I swear it was Hawke that blinked. Without a word, they carried away the body. His theme song by Candlemass played in the air. I swear I saw Francis headbang. "That was totally uncalled for" I said to Captain LeComte. "Not your call. Never your call" he replied. "You know me?". "Course I do". "How?". "Telepathic forum, remember?" said Hawke pointing a finger to his head. "I know all about you, imbrattacarte. How you harassed my men and finally brought death to my friend John Toad". "Actually it was the Black Dwarf who...". "Yeah, but he followed you. So it's your fault in my book. I'd have your hide for that, but then I'm sure the Vatican would bring you back again. Julie (Delpy, NDR) said she would stop you. I never thought she would go all the way through. That chick's crazier than I thought! But then she's French". "So what now?". "Nothing, now! We go our own way. I suggest you find a better field of expertise. Like tour guides or something". "And what about Goober?!". "Goober? He gave the nose of one of my men to drugged strippers! His ganja-stained butt belongs to me!". "But what about Major Rob Ford..." "He did nothing up until now because of the Sochi Olympics. He wanted all the media attention to himself. Attention whore that he is..." "Well, like Goober!". "Shut the f*ck up. Now, if Ucraina doesn't go to hell, he'll make his move". "But..." And just like that, he walked away. Set security jumped on us. We ended up on the banks of the Spree. My quest was over. And what had I found? Nothing. "So this is how Substance feels all the time" I thought. Tucked in his leather jacket, Greyfriar put his arm around my shoulder and said: "Let's get a beer". Sounded like a plan. FIN

  42. It sounds like you ran into those renegade papal dwarves. H.P.L. would know, but he hasn't visited this thread since he offed himself in one of his Grinder stories a few weeks ago. I guess the task of keeping this thread alive rests solely with us for the time being. I think we should hijack it and change the topic — encourage people to exchange household cleaning tips or something equally exciting. That would breathe new life into it. As usual, my friend, you lack faith! Are you reading too deep into Neal's agnostic lyrics again? What better excuse did I have other than being dead? I mean, Lorraine can play the bum in Toronto and everybody welcomes her back with open arms, I get sacrificed by Julie Delpy and I get the blame?!?! If I didn't know any better I'd be really crossed at you, Substance. But of course, I know it's your nature to be so jolly and sunshine about everything. So here, I'm back. And the Black Dwarf isn't. Lorraine resurfaces after about a month and everyone is falling over themselves to welcome her back, yet we've been toiling away in here for an eternity and our work remains unnoticed and unrewarded. I didn't think anyone read this thread — it turns out they do, but they can't bother to even lift a finger and like any of our posts. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-sad055.gif :P Yeah, we are waaay even more underrated than Alex. Tell you what, let them have all their Torontos and Inner City Holimpics. I'm hanging out in Berlin with Greyfriar. The club scene is crazy. You're welcome to join us if you can make it to good old Europe. Before I book my flight from Chicago to Berlin and charge it to the Grinder, I think I should start a poll to find out how people feel about this thread. Maybe something along these lines: Your thoughts about the "TRF Prediction Thread and Roast: Rushgoober's 30,000th post". Do you read it, and aren't H.P.L. and Substancewithoutstyle two of the Grinder's unsung heroes? 1. [ ] I read it every day, but I'm too embarrassed to like any posts in it. 2. [ ] I used to read it until Lorraine left. She was my favorite. 3. [ ] Goober? I didn't notice he was gone. 4. [ ] H.P.L. and Substancewithoutstyle? Who the hell are they? 5. I feel where you coming from, brother, but I'm gonna speak just for myself and say: no way noone's gonna vote this poll. Wanna know why? 'cause this thread is TRF's dirty little secret. EVERYONE is reading it, but noone will come out in the open and admit it. And I'm ok with that. Storytelling, like music, is free. Oh, and of course when Goobs comes back, they'll be all: that thread? no way mate, I never read it, I hated it with all my heart bro.... why Tombstone and all the other slackers, they oughta be banned.... sign me your book please? Also, Goober will never lower himself to posting in this thread, especially since it's no longer all about him. He'll probably start a new thread to announce his return, just to be certain he's the one in the spotlight. But seriously, he's been gone a long time, and what if he never returns? What if he's ill and incapable of posting? I know we joke around here, but sometimes I really wonder what happened to him. I've been thinking the same way from time to time. But still, as far as I see it, we are taking the piss off Goober's online TRF persona, not the real him which I don't know and will never meet. I have met Rushgoober, not Gary, and Goober was the first and only one to respond to my PMs the first times I was here, when lots of people (now gone) where arguing about my english or ignoring me altogether. Goober was friendly, open, gave me courage. For that I will forever be grateful. But then he started going the usual way "You got it all wrong", "How can you possibily....", "Nothing what you said is right..." and so on, and then began the famous VT saga, and it all was blown to Gargantua proportions, which only called for a Pantagruel response.
