  2. I'll be her secretary. I can just see it now..... Phone rings. "Geddy, this is the 4th time you have called this hour. I am very sorry, but Miz Mika can't come to the phone at the moment. She is biz doing other things. I don't think she will be able to come over and eat soup with you and the boys today. Please don't call again unless it is something really urgent. Thank you and good bye!" Aw, Lorraine, that's not realistic! I mean, what are the chances that I would turn down a soup-eating visit with Geddy? More likely he would keep getting called from us to come over and just hang out so we can wallow in his awesomeness! :D But when he visited us I would certainly make sure that we have appropriate desktop backgrounds on the computers - the Geddy-Alex-and-John-in-underwear picture would have to changed over to one of a beach or something.... Well, all right. We'll make it more realistic. I'll rewrite the script: Phone rings. "Hello Geddy? This is Mika." "Mika, this is the twelfth time you have called me in forty-five minutes. What is it now?" "Well, Geddy, Lorraine and I were wondering if you could come over and join us for a steaming bowl of matzo ball soup." Click. How's that?

  7. I get email notifications for "likes" and "friend requests". I've had the "There was a problem storing your reputation" banner on numerous occasions. This occurs when you post a "like", think it hasn't taken, then when you try it again, that banner comes up. it just means youre doing too many things at once. Maybe it should read: "There was a problem storing your vote", as I don't actually understand what 'reputation' means. This is my thought. :) You're reputation is fine with me

  13. I remember interviews at teh time where people were claiming Paul Simon was just another person exploiting Africans. So unfair. The brilliance of Graceland is ultimately in the unique arrangements and lyrics and Pauls distinctive plaintif vocals.

  14. Ladysmith Black Mambazo went on to a pretty high level of international success after appearing on Simon's album. I was always struck by those that criticized Simon for the wages he paid them for their performance on his record. I think the exposure they got more was more than fair compensation. As for Graceland's lyrics, how about... This is the story of how we begin to remember This is the powerful pulsing of love in the vein After the dream of falling and calling your name out These are the roots of rhythm And the roots of rhythm remain

  15. It was weird. I was to pick my wife up for our first date at 7:00 and we were going to catch a movie. I had been out riding my bike earlier that day and saw the most beautiful field of wildflowers. So I suggested that we drive by a look at them before the movie and we got there just as the sun was starting to set which really illuminated the flowers in the most amazing way. We talked about which movie to see and agreed that we both loved scary movies, and there really wasn’t any playing. So we went back to her apartment and watched “The Changeling” and “Ghost Story”, eating popcorn and just talking. We talked straight through the night (no funny stuff, I swear) and just laughed and laughed. So, the sun starts to come up and I’m thinking I should head out, don’t want the neighbours to talk, right? I get to the bottom of the stairs and we gave each other a hug and just looked at each other and smiled and didn’t say a word. I’m driving home, bright sun in my eyes and I think to myself, “Wow, I just met my wife”, and start laughing out loud with this big stupid smile on my face. That was nearly 24 years ago and I can tell you, I am so blessed to know that I get to begin and end each and everyday with this most amazing person. We have so much fun, still love watching scary movies and laughing like crazy and just spending hours with one another. I consider myself the most fortunate of men. There are times, when we are out and about, that I just look at her and think, “Man, one day she is going to catch on that she is wa-a-ay too good for me”. To say that I love her falls dreadfully short, as there are no words to express how I feel. Scripture says that “two become one”, if this is true, then she, most certainly, is the better part of me. I knew beyond the shadow of a doubt then and I know beyond the shadow of a doubt now and, yes, I still have that stupid smile on my face.

  17. Fascinating. —Spock http://www.scienceworldreport.com/articles/5073/20130220/why-women-talk-more-men-language-protein.htm Why Women Talk More Than Men: Language Protein Uncovered Catherine Griffin First Posted: Feb 20, 2013 09:14 AM EST http://images.scienceworldreport.com/data/images/full/3699/lips.jpg?w=680 (Photo : Flickr) There's a biological explanation for the reason why women talk more than men. Scientists have discovered a protein that's found in higher concentrations in the brains of women. You know all the times that men complain about women talking too much? Apparently there's a biological explanation for the reason why women are chattier than men. Scientists have discovered that women possess higher levels of a "language protein" in their brains, which could explain why females are so talkative. Previous research has shown that women talk almost three times as much as men. In fact, an average woman notches up 20,000 words in a day, which is about 13,000 more than the average man. In addition, women generally speak more quickly and devote more brainpower to speaking. Yet before now, researchers haven't been able to biologically explain why this is the case. Like Us on Facebook <a href=" http://ad.doubleclick.net/jump/33u.science/artcl;poz=artclmid;tile='+dctile+';dcopt='+dcopt+';sz=250x250;ord=123456789?" target="_blank" ><img src="http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/33u.science/artcl;poz=artclmid;sz=250x250;ord=123456789?" border="0" alt="" /></a> Now, they can. New findings conducted by researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and published in The Journal of Neuroscience show that a certain protein may be the culprit. In 2001, a gene called FOXP2 appeared to be essential for the production of speech. In order to test this protein, the team, led by J. Michael Bowers and Margaret McCarthy, looked at young rat pups. These animals emit cries in the ultrasonic range when separated from their mothers. The team recorded the cries over five minutes in groups of 4-day-old male and female rats that had been separated from their mothers. They found that male pups had up to twice as much of the protein FOXP2 in regions of the brain known to be involved in vocalization—perhaps an unsurprising finding since researchers noted that males made twice as many cries as females. Next, the researchers wanted to test their findings in humans. They conducted a small study on human children aged four to five years who had died in accidents less than 24 hours previously. They then analyzed the amount of FOXP2 protein in the brains of these children. In the end, the researchers found 30 percent more FOXP2 protein in the brains of the girls. The research shows that the protein, FOXP2, is a key molecule for communication in mammals. In fact, it could allow researchers to better understand other species that may or may not possess the protein, such as Neanderthals. With this new biological link, scientists could potentially trace back the evolutionary origin of speech. That said, the research also gives a reason for why women tend to be better at small talk.

  20. Hey, ya know, breakdowns come and breakdowns go, so, What are you gonna do about it, that's what I'd like to know You don't feel you could love me but I feel you do It was in the early morning hours that I fell into a phone call Believing I had supernatural powers, I slammed into a brick wall. ---- Today's entry is a little ditty made famous by a movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bE1dz6_u2JI Edit to add: I don't think Paul exploited African musicians, rather he put a face (and a sound) on the people suffering under Apartheid. Paul exposed their rich musical culture and helped focus world attention on the people.

  22. I'm glad he's keeping the same band. This is the best one i've seen him with live. I'm really glad Orianthi is staying to. For whatever reason, she just fits perfectly in Cooper's band. I can't hear the opening riff to No More Mr. Nice Guy anymore without picturing her playing it. Last summer when I saw them open for Maiden I got one of her guitar picks :haz: I wonder if Orianthi is gonna stick around and record an album with Cooper? It would be very interesting to hear what they can come up with together.

  25. Dark Side Of The Moon was the first CD I had ever bought (along with Moving Pictures and Led Zeppelin IV). This was way back in the early 80's, when The Wall was still the focus of the Pink Floyd Universe. For me, Dark Side Of The Moon is flawless. There is not one part of the album that this listener thinks could be improved. I can't say that about the other albums.
