When you're listening to this song you hear a similarity with which band/solo artist?

I don't hear anything with that song, but I do hear Alex imitating a classic old band guitarist in this song (especially from 2:26 to about 2:60):

The very first time I heard this song I heard elements of 80's pop style Heart.

Just some of the musical elements, and I imagine this is not a common feeling. I still hear it though, even today.

Now that you mention Heart, I can hear what you are talking about.

The intro sounds like music from Donkey Kong Country, then it sounds like Rush, then when the hook comes I turn it off.

The chorus:
(Show me, don't tell me)
You've figured out the score
(Show me, don't tell me)
I've heard it all before
(Show me, don't tell me)
I don't care what you say
(Show me, don't tell me)

sounds like Pet Shop Boys to me.

First time I heard it was in the car, mid-song during early release.  I said to my wife, "Someone's trying to rip off RUSH."

I laughed when I found out it was RUSH.

I like the album, but this song and the title track are two of my least favorite tracks on it.  They also seem to be the two that fans like the most, so there you go.

Perhaps post an 80s Heart video that reminds you of that sound?  Are you talking about something like "Never"?  Try to provide more analysis, if not empirical data.
