I love much of it. Just not Hold Your Fire, which is technically wussy-era Rush.

keyboard era ...hey al make your guitar sound more twangy with less bite. hey Ged...leave the bass alone and plunk away on some keyboards. oh and write some songs that will appease the adult contemporary crowd.

yeah other than that it was awesome. :sarcastic:

What if that's our favorite era?

I love the synth era, but in a different way than the older or newer stuff. I'm glad the band branched out a little (hell...a lot) and didn't just keep the same sound forever. We have AC/DC for that.

Synth era trumps 21st century Rush 10-1

Totally agree. Signals, GUP and especially Power Windows & HYF are great albums. The original VT was, to my ears, very bad (the remix is much better - but still not good). S & A is very good. CA is so-so and very overrated. If its was re-mixed it could be better.

Not really close - synth era is way better than modern era Rush. At least to my ears.

My favorite era. Why we do love it: Extra atmosphere and texture means extra goosebumps.

Plus the quality of Neil's lyrics, starting with the first song on the first album of this era went up - way up. Not that it was bad prior to that. Hell no!!! His lyrics prior to that had been great. But starting with Subdivisions, and continuing on through the entire period (and beyond it), he elevated the quality of his lyrics enormously.

That being said, I can understand why some might not like this era. They may like the sci-fi / fantasy based lyrics which predominated Neil's prior (great) lyrics. They may really like the great, guitar based music from the prior work and hate the keyboard heavy music from this era.

I myself love the early work even more the synth. But the synth era is a close second. Both are better than their 90's work and their 21'st century work.

The synths allowed the guitar and especially fhe bass a lot more space. The sound is spacious, the drums have a lot more

Punch. Listen the lead break on Big Money. Hear the interaction of the rhythm section with that definitive single

Coil strat (or is it Hentor)sound and there you have it. There wouldnt be too much more if rhat in the future would there?
