Saw them last night, they were great. Yes Roth's vocals were patchy at best, yes he's a bit of a doofus, but he's a great entertainer and Eddie was just mesmerizing.

12,000 people walked out happy.

2 solid hours straight through, no encore. Probably a local curfew ?

Groupon was selling lawn tickets for something like $25, if you get a chance go see them, you won't find a better nighjt's entertainment for that amount of money.

One of the best rock bands ever.

Too bad all the members are total fuckwads. I'm surprised if this tour doesn't end prematurely.

1984 was the first album I ever bought with my own money. I was not quite 11 years old. Bought up all of the back catalog after that. Loved them when I was a kid.

But they fell of my radar in about 1992, and haven't returned.

Glad y'all enjoy them, though.

Earl, God bless you brother. You have gotten me going on more binges in the last few years. This morning at the gym I went through Fair Warning and Diver Down. Sitting at my desk this morning I've listened to Zero and a recording from Pasadena High from 1975 on YouTube. Yesterday or the day before it was Women and Children First.

I'm going to see them next month for the first time in about 30 years.

I have tickets for the Aug 9 VH show and cannot wait. My eyes and ears are on Eddie for very VH show so I could care less about the other band members, well sort of.

Listening to "Fair Warning" now. Never gets old.

The first six Van Halen albums are timeless.

They are all one album. Play them back to back to back to back to back to back!

Yeah, all six albums are part of a saga where the protagonist tells the tale of having as much sex, beer and drugs as one can. Not just a concept album, but a concept permeating SIX albums!!!! And you thought Tales from the Topographic Oceans was over the top!!!

I've noticed that I'm virtually always in agreement with you on musical tastes and perspectives. And would you believe that 1984 was the first cassette I purchased with my own money? I was eight. And they fell off my radar circa 1992 as well.

The older high school kids used to play basketball in a driveway across the street from my boyhood home. I thought they were so cool. In the summer they would often crank Ratt Out of the Cellar, Iron Maiden Number of the Beast, and Van Halen's entire catalog to that point. I still vividly remember one of the kids throwing down a nasty dunk to the tune of "Running with the Devil." I guess I've never really paused to appreciate that those dudes are a significant part of the reason I became such a big metal and hard rock fan. I built my cassette collection pretty rapidly after acquiring 1984 as my cornerstone.

Alas, I too struggle to tolerate Van Halen today. It would be much easier if they were not such A-holes. Not that I am not a huge fan of several A-hole musicians, but… well, I guess I pick my battles. :D

I agree with this. At their peak, VH was a really good hard rock band, whose music was great to party to. Sadly, egos and drama have killed them the last 20 years, and now they just look like mostly sad old men (plus one kid) out for a cash grab now.

But albums like I, Fair Warning, 5150 and F.U.C.K. still kick ass, regardless. :haz:

Wow, this stinks for the Van Halen fans in central PA! Diamond Dave has the flu and the whole show is cancelled . . . . . it's too bad because it was outdoors and it is a beautiful, beautiful night here!

Ok.....someone was posting stuff yesterday about Eddie's son quitting the band, and Tony Levin was taking over the rest of the tour (are they even touring?) Tony posted this today on his FB feed:

Hmm, a web joke about me playing with Van Halen seems to have implied that it's true. I've just returned from a less exciting trip, a week in Cologne to work on my poetry book and some new lyrics.

Since I'm supposed to be a poet now, let me address the issue in verse:

Some folks have been e-mailin’

that I’m playing with Van Halen

it’s amazing what a web based post can do.

Guess there was a joke about it

and though I’d rather live without it

some folks actually believed it to be true.

So let me set the record straight

and leave no question for debate

I won’t be in the Van Halen band or crew.

And in a few days, when I’m ready

I’ll send a short e-mail to Eddie:

I’d like their bass man to be… Geddy, wouldn’t you?
