Snaked
On a side note, I ran into production manager Zack Thomas on the break Who dat? He isn't the production manager for this tour. He isn't listed as a Live Nation or VIP Nation person. Perhaps he's on one of the contracted crews but I would still think he'd be listed if he were "production manager" for any of them. ctbadger
And these nitpicky comments from "fans", who mostly hear the concert through a freaking cellphone. Yeah, let's blame Geddy's bass malfunction in Headlong, Alex's wrong opening chord in DEW, Dirk's keyboard flub to open Subdivisions, and the cringe inducing guitar solo on Barchetta on sound quality. You can call me "nitpicky", but I prefer discriminating listener. Helps me avoid being labelled a total fanboi. ;) The thing is we are used to their perfection. We are not accustomed to Rush making mistakes. We're not complaining - its more concern than anything else - like what the heck is going on and what is wrong? I Here's to Friday! :dweez: :dweez: :dweez: I'm certain that being there is better than watching via periscope feed or a bootleg video after the fact.   I'm surprised by flubs because this is a show that is being filmed for a DVD. I don't want them to have overdub. As Yoda would "Overdubbing leads to Exit Stage Left and Exit stage left leads to the Darkside" of audio recordings in my opinion" :fury: Geddy mentioned a couple of years back he is wound tighter when they are filming (I think he said something like "more pucker factor") so I am not surprised at all there were more flubs. Lorraine
Too bad that every show couldn't be filmed. It would ease up on the tension and stress for them, and there would be lots to choose from at the end. The best of the best from The Best! :) Edited June 18, 2015 by Lorraine

J2112YYZ
I was a lot more kind on another site but, from my 5th row vantage point in front of Alex, I felt the first set was... in a word, strange. Seemed like every song was being played an octave lower and when Ged's vocals hit high parts, he'd bounce back up to the correct octave while the music didn't. His vocals, for the most part sounded great. I hear complaints coming from those watching through periscope feeds but, honestly, is that a great gauge of quality sound and mixing? I felt the second set was incredible. Yeah, a slight botch of a solo in Red Barchetta from Alex but not the train wreck everyone on here seems to think it was. In fact, most of what people are calling train wrecks are not at all that. I've seen shows from this close before and it seems like this is the most challenging show for all three members due to its difficulty and complexity. I was in awe that they were putting out as much as they were. All three were machines, especially Neil. On a side note, I ran into production manager Zack Thomas on the break who told me they'll be heading to Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia for shows in the fall and before Christmas. Yep. Indonesia. In the new year they'll be back for another leg of North American shows. So, the DVD will most likely not be released until next year. That last sentence is my speculation based on Zack's info. One last note: Can we put Losing It to bed? Based on the challenges of the current set lists night in and night out, I doubt they'll add to them by inserting a new song such as this. Look for it as a DVD extra at best. Hmm, if they were heading to Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia this fall, i'm pretty sure the shows would have been announced by now. I haven't read any rumors about them going to these places either. It's June already and when most bands head to places like that, the announcements come many months in advance. I'm not denying that this conversation took place but the person you talked to may not have been who they said they were. I hope there is a second North American leg but every rumor i've heard is saying "this is it" after the LA show. TexMike
Ray should've just hired a stealth camera crew and told the band that for the sake of spontaneity, 2 random dates will be filmed. Since they wouldn't know which ones they were, they could just play and not worry about the filming.

Look at the lighting arrangements on the DVD's they are almost always different from the rest of the tour. The main difference is the lights that line the entire ceiling of the arena for the cool light patters over the crowd. They also bring in a second soundboard and a ton of camera equipment. It's extremely expensive and not easy to do stealth. If you do it stealth, the lighting gets off for cameras an the cameras are too cheap to shoot well in low light. Example the Go Pro's on the bonus tracks of Clockwork Angels had a lot of static in them trying to process low light images. The Rush team make around a half million each show. But filming a show like this costs well over a half million in all the logistics, equipment, workers, legal fees and so on and on.

TexMike
I was mostly joking about the stealth thing. I know that would not be easy or cheap to do But given that I enjoy watching some fan-shot stuff on youtube better than the actual DVDs, I'd say they're wasting money on such a production. Set up one stationary camera from slightly above each side of the stage, one stationary camera capturing the wide-view from straight back of center stage, and fill in with shots from the robot camera that provides the screen shots every night. Save a ton of money and not require some people to need Dramamine to watch the DVD. :)

puffyshirt
Sorry, I came into this late and have no idea what happened at the show. Does it look like they followed the correct A-B-C order of what should have been the Toronto setlist, or did it shake things up? Trying to figure out what to expect for Vancouver :)

maxdistortion
Was at the buffalo show last week and I saw last night's show in Toronto. I can defnately confirm those issues . not their best night. The boys were clearly tense. My brother was sitting in the second row and he told me that during Xanadu Alex mouthed to geddy "I'll try not to screw up". My heart broke a little when Alex was clearly getting frustrated when his volume swell pedal in the intro to Xanadu failed. For about half of it he had no sound at all, and then mostly just stuck to playing without the volume swells at all. Geds vocal performance was about what I'd expect but he did sound better in buffalo. And I knew at the start of red barchetta they were gonna be in for a rough time. The second half was significantly better overall, and I'm hoping they'll have a better show Friday! I'll be there as well
