jamie
Ok so I always hear people bitch about people who's favorite song is one of the band's most popular songs. Then again, those songs are popular for a reason right? I'd say some of mine are: Tom Sawyer/LimelightStairway to Heaven/Rock And RollRun To The HillsSeven Nation ArmyAny song off of Dark Side Of The MoonBaba O'Riley RoundaboutBreadfan and a lot more....

The Analog Cub
Rush: Side one of Moving Pictures, TSOR/Freewill Maiden: Run To The Hills is alright, The Trooper, 2 Minutes to Midnight :haz: Foos: Everlong, Pretender, My Hero, Walk, and of course THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST (and so on) Floyd: Dark Side Of The Moon, though nothing beats Animals. Ever. Styx: The Grand Illusion album, Blue Collar Man, Rockin' The Paradise, SUITE MADAME BLUEEEE Leppard: F-f-f-foolin', Photograph, Rock Of Ages, Bringin' On The Heartbreak, everything on Hysteria that went popular except for Love Bites. Zeppelin: Shit, pretty much everything up to and including Physical Graffiti was popular, so give me everything up to the end of side 1, then a few tracks off of side two of PG Buddy Guy: YOU DAMN RIGHT I GOT DA BLUES (nothing else by Buddy was popular in the sense we're talking about, maybe Slippin' In or Feels Like Rain) Bonamassa: If anything counts as popular from him, The Ballad Of John Henry, Sloe Gin, Slow Train, Blues Deluxe, Stop! Gary Clark Jr: Bright Lights is his only popular song and it's not even that much blues :sigh:

Mr. Not
Usually it's just one song - the song that people will remember the band by "Oh yeah, they did Roundabout, Tom Sawyer, Welcome Home, Roulette Dares, Poison"... Then I'll just think to myself, "there's much more to the band than that one song you know..." And then every tour they'll have to play the song to please half of the audience who showed up wanting to hear it more than anything else... Mr. Not
Bands themselves can get annoyed by being treated as one-hit-wonders as well (go figure) "My Iron Lung" was Radiohead's reaction to "Creep", their massive hit of 1993 which also became something of a millstone for Yorke. The song's caustic, self-reflexive lyrics used the iron lung as a metaphor for the way "Creep" had both sustained the band's life and constrained them ("this is our new song / just like the last one / a total waste of time / my iron lung"). Mr. Not
One unique instance is alice cooper's "no more mr nice guy" as its not only a popular track of his im not jaded by, but one of my own very favorite songs of his. What can i say, the lyrics speak to me.

Rick N. Backer
This is a pet issue of mine. I never get why a band's "real" fans feel compelled to shun the band's music when it becomes popular with casual fans. Tom Sawyer, Paranoid, Owner of a Lonely Heart, Sharp Dressed Man, and on and on. All great songs. No one will question your dedication to a band if you admit you like that stuff. You don't have to say Caress of Steel is Rush's creative peak to convince someone you're a knowledgeable fan.
