Todem Posted August 21, 2012 Share Posted August 21, 2012 (edited) My list has changed since release. A few things overall have changed too. I have settled into this mix and master. At first my ears were in a shock and awe. Coming off of Snakes and Arrows which was far brighter and a totally different mood and approach, I was a little let down with CA's intial lack of clarity. However after what has now been well over 30-40 spins of this amazing album I have truly digested the entire mix, mood and approach of this album. Are there a few things I wish they would have done different. Of course. And when the band themselves looks back on this album in a few years they will also have little things they would have done different. That is the nature of music and being a muscian. I liken this mix to what I felt about Signals for w few months after it's release. Everything about that album was a 180 from Moving Pictures in they way they recorded, wrote and performed the music. The same went for CA vs SnA. I really liked SnA so of course my sonic (not song) comparisons were going to be compared to their previous album. Like Signals.....the mix is darker, some mud as well. Alex's guitar has that Signals undertone in a lot fo spots. Sometimes it is out front. The one thing that this album does not compare is Neils drums. Signals is far better. Neil is not out in front of this mix....but my ears have fully adjusted to this fact and now that I know every fill, cymbal splash and fill....it does not matter anymore. It just took a lot more effort than normal to enjoy Neils parts. So anyway my new best to least......and again not a weak track to be found on their best album since Hold Your Fire in my mind. 1) The Anarchist 2) Clockwork Angels 3) Carnies 4) The Wreckers 5) Caravan 6) Seven Cities of Gold 7) Headlong Flight 8) BU2B 9) Halo Effect 10) Wish Them Well 11) The Garden 12) BU2B2 (it's not a song...just a transition/passage to me) Yep....The Garden has fallen to last place. A really good song...I really enjoy it. That's how good this album is. Carnies is amazing. This song totally came on for me over the last month and to me is a new Rush classic. Trememdous tune.
