Snowman
But the ramlings about DT sounded OK, I liked the comments about the increasing melodicity and the LaBrie was the one that made most impression. They are clever muscisians, but in my mind a song should always have a strong focus on melody. All the instrumental parts comes in addition to spice up the song. I hope for a bloody hard and melodic DT album!
prog.fusion
if this is right.......or at least somewhat accurate, i kind of expect something along the lines of TOT meets 6DOIT(the song). or a much more melodic TOT. to be blunt, i kind of want another FII. lol. i know im in the minority, but i love the absolute "prog" feel that album has. but any DT is good DT. Hatchetaxe&saw
QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Dec 8 2006, 02:46 PM) OK, I bought my first DT album, "Once In A Livetime". It's excellent!!What should be my next purchase?? And after that, and so on. Well it's been 3 months since my first purchase. I now have all the albums and DVDs'. What an unbelievable band. I found some of it hard going at first, but perseverance pays off. The documentaries on the DVDs' gave me a great insight into the band, it's workings and personalities. Product wise, they really spoil us, don't they? Got the triple cd Live Scenes last week to complete the collection. Great live album. The definitive version of A Change Of Seasons, IMHO. Cannot wait for Systematic Chaos, cannot wait to see them live. Thanks to all TRFers' for the advice regarding next purchases. YOU WERE ALL CORRECT! And the naysayers? Meh! Kubla
QUOTE (Groovybass77 @ Mar 3 2007, 07:29 PM) I just bought "Scenes From A Memory" Tuesday. Very good album! I bought it too, along with "Images and Words..." I played Images the other day (twice) and thought they sounded a lot like a combination of various bands... with some of the synths - very much like the Hemispheres era.. Supertramp, Gun'n'Roses, Genesis and even Camel. Was it intentional to sound like other bands, and/or have they been heavily influenced by them? double bass chick
I am a huge DT fan. I have been a fan since I heard, "Pull Me under", in 1992. I then saw them at the Ventura Theater in 1993 for that tour. Unfrickinbelievable!!!!!!!! They were so different from anything that was out at the time. Honestly, the first comparison I thought of was Rush & Yes. They are so technical but passionate. Absolute phenomenol musicianship. Every one of them. People that slam them are just jealous. Even if they are not your cup of tea, you cannot deny their talent-period. Mike has become another influence for me I must say. He pays homage to Peart. I think he is Peart times 10. Baby Peart really. He has taken the baton and ran with it. I am looking forward for the new album to come out & his new drum dvd. I have his other 2. Awesome!! Great band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
