"Burn The Boats" is a Funeral for Joe Rogan's Comedy Career

never saw the attraction for his work. nothing but a loudmouth meathead who would start barfights if he wasn't famous.

So many comedians that really aren't funny or wear out their routine quickly. Comedy clubs are just their gateway to build a podcast audience or get into movies. I forgot how many times I'd watch a comedy special on Netflix and just bail on it after 10-15 minutes.

I'll just assume (and hope) you're correct. I won't watch or listen to a minute of that asshat.

Why not? He's only a failed actor and comedian who somehow found a niche to "entertain" via a podcast and sometimes dupe the gullible.

I haven't watched a lot of his standup comedy, probably because what I did see didn't make me laugh much.

But even if his comedy career completely tanked and ended tomorrow, he'd still have the number one podcast in the world. So, why is his podcast so popular?

He's collected all the conspiracy nuts and survival freaks in the world on one platform.

I'm so happy that some fledging 70k subscriber Youtuber, who might be making $20k/year off their little up-and-coming would-be career, is around to drop habanero-hot-takes on an established decades-long comedian and media personality who *checks notes* re-signed with Spotify for a further estimated $250,000,000 this year. It's not a stretch to say he's the long-term king of podcasting, love him or hate him.

If Rogan is all washed up, hopefully someone can get the telegram out to his presumed yacht

The "bandwagon" fallacy is the mistaken belief that popularity and quality or value are correlated, and therefore, that a lack of popularity is somehow relevant to one's argument.

I don't listen to Rogan or Stern but I think the point is that Rogan is what Stern used to be. You're entitled to your opinion on what amusing or interesting is but Rogan's numbers indicate he's tapped into something. Someone with 70K subscribers proclaiming the career death of Rogan is like spitting in hurricane force winds.

Yeah, well, millions of people eat at McDonalds every day so don't mistake popularity for high quality.

Big Bang Theory had more seasons than Community.  That doesn't make it a better show.

Spoiler

6 seasons and a movie!

How can you have a funeral for something that never existed? Rogan has never been a funny stand up comedian. Just because he has good comedians on his podcast doesn't actually make him one. The only reason people pay attention to his stand up is because he is a commentator for UFC and hosting Fear Factor. Two very high profile gigs which have allowed people to know who he is. When it comes to comedy he's not even good enough to work a dead comedy club on a Tuesday night.

Given how much he talks about the art of comedy, you'd expect him to be up there with Carlin, Louis CK, or Prior. But being a comedian is like the fourth thing people even know Joe does. He's good at hosting shows but that's about it. His podcasts work because he has people much funnier himself on and he'd talk about any stupid bs, which I honestly appreciate for better or worse.
