Since I did post a BTO song, although this topic is about Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty.

Randy Bachman & Fred Turner (half of Bachman-Turner Overdrive) Bryan Adams, and Bruce Springsteen shared a bill of performing at the 2017 Invictus Games closing ceremony in Toronto.

A photo of Bachman, Turner, and Springsteen here.

There's brief footage of this in the Randy Bachman documentary Bachman, which also features Alex Lifeson and other's.

Springsteen and Adams dueting on 'Cuts Like A Knife' and 'Badlands' below.

Wow, that's 3 more than I thought liked Bruce here

I'm a bigger Springsteen fan than I am pretty much anyone else.

I just discovered something.

The Jeff Healey Band recorded an unreleased song Tom Petty wrote during the Mudcrutch era titled 'Lost In Your Eyes'.

it was released as a single in the early 90's to moderate success.

I heard the song on rock radio at the time, but wasn't aware that Tom Petty was the writer until now.

Later, the Mudcrutch version was released on the An American Treasure compilation box set.

As well, there's a female roots-rock musician from Austin, Texas named Carla Olson.

She recorded an unreleased Tom Petty song (also from the Mudcrutch era) titled 'I Can't Fight It' on her best of album Wave Of The Hand: The Best Of Carla Olson in 1995.

Olson had a band in the late 70's called The Textones, which were a power pop/punk band.

The Mudcrutch version was released on the Playback compilation box set, also in 1995.

That's one thing that Springsteen and Petty have in common is they've released box sets of rare unreleased material.

...and Springsteen would have been terrible in the Traveling Wilburys :16ton:

From wikipedia here.

"Tweeter and the Monkey Man" that Bob Dylan and Tom Petty wrote is sometimes regarded as a playful homage to the songs of Bruce Springsteen. The lyrics include the titles of many Springsteen songs, and the song borrows many of Springsteen's themes. The setting of the song itself is New Jersey, Springsteen's home state and the setting for many of Springsteen's own songs. New Jersey locations such as Rahway Prison and Jersey City are mentioned by name. Springsteen song title references include: "Stolen Car", "Mansion on the Hill", "Thunder Road", "State Trooper", "Factory", "The River", and a song made popular by Springsteen but written by Tom Waits, "Jersey Girl". Additionally, "Lion's Den" and "Paradise" are each mentioned and prominently enunciated in the song, each being the title of a Springsteen song released after the Traveling Wilburys album.

That's a stellar point.

Some of the old Bruce is real good. Rosalita, Born to Run, Jungleland, stuff like that. Long songs with some complexity and lots of layers. Then he started doing simple roots rock and I ain't got time for that.

I saw the Petty at Fenway Park concert video from 2014 and that band still had the goods. Like others have said here, Petty's output is more consistently good.
