condemned2bfree
Captain Beefheart - Trout mask replica - Fast and bulbous! Beat me to it.......but man it's great stuff. Mick I find this album too hard to listen to. I own a few albums by him. Whats your favourite? A stand out for me is shiny beast - Bat chain puller. One of the best instrumentals ever and there are some great (owed't alex suction prints candle mambo great album for me), but easy on the brain songs. Observatory crest is a stellar song too. He was unique that's for sure

ytserush
I'm not sure I can answer the question, but John Zorn comes to mind as an example. As far as strange albums that don't intend to be strange? Boston Spaceships- Zero to 99Anything by Circus Devils (except Mother Skinny, which is probably their most straight-forward kind of thing) I'll have to think some more. Bingo. Any number of Zorn albums. I gave up trying to catch up with the guy. I wouldn't have room for any other music. I enjoy most of what I have too. Trout Mask Replica is iconic as well.

goose
Devil Doll, the Slovanian art-rock project. The Girl Who Was Death is a cult classic. Also, Roky Erickson's 1981 release Tge Evil One, which gave us the original "If You Have Ghosts". Edited September 7, 2016 by goose
Mr. Not
Devil Doll, the Slovanian art-rock project. The Girl Who Was Death is a cult classic. I was tempted to name-drop them :) Everything by them is weird if you don't know what to expect. The same could be said about The Mars Volta, probably.. Especially Deloused if you dare to decipher the horrific story that's being told.
Mr. Not
Omar Rodriquez Lopez has released multiple solo albums, by the time this year ends he'll have 42 released total. He took a break from releasing them in 2013, but this year he's back in full force - releasing 12! (4 of them are already out). One of these albums is said to feature some of The Mars Volta line-up, but I'm not sure which album it will be. All of it is weird. Enjoy! http://youtu.be/QNk7YPkdwy0 Edited September 7, 2016 by Mr. Not

blueschica
One of Sufjan Stevens' Christmas albums, I guess he made like 5 of them? (Fans, feel free to explain to me here but I just don't get the guy.) My daughter said she was bringing over a Christmas album and I was thinking Canadian Brass or at least James Taylor. Instead, this album sounded like it was recorded inside a closet (poor production) and the guy was only using half his voice and was singing flat as well. Disappointing.
