  1. My son, on his own accord, made a giant "We miss you" card for his 2nd grade teacher...who's out having a tumor removed. He has a great heart and he teaches me something about what it means to be a caring human every day. So proud of him.

  3. I actually wish RUSH would return to a more pop-oriented song writing style. The plodding, melody-less songs get old to me really fast.

  6. Love me some AC/DC.. And both ares are great in their own way.. Was just listening to Flick of the Switch the other day on a walk with the dog.. I love Brian's raspy, cigeraette, beer soaked voice .. Such character, and the perfect voice for Hard Rock.. And he's always come across as a class act, the type of dude you'd sit and throw a pint back with

  7. And he has been truly blessed. As are we for being able to see such a gorgeous person as Geddy.

  9. This? http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Bluefunk/Rush/Bluefunk_0107-Jan-141917.jpg It didn't look intentional to me, but the camera was only on him for a split second. Who knows with Lerxst! :D about 42 seconds, its definitely intentional!

  10. Rush has always strived for the song since Waves. Always trying to write great melodies. And they have done so....masterfully. And IMO they wrote a lot better on other albums than on Presto. I like Presto, but Roll The Bones was a far better "pop" Rush album IMO. It was far more realized than Presto overall. So if we were to pigeon hole Presto and Roll The Bones as the "Pop" Rush.....give me Roll The Bones if I had to choose one.

  15. ^ I keep hearing if you're a nice fan and not insane (lol) they'll gladly shoot the breeze with you. Sometimes I imagine what I'd do if I met them and I always come to the same conclusion- I'd cry. haha. But I would be cute about it lol ;) Blow Up Your Video is still my favourite Brian album, hands down. so underrated. I just love AC/DC. I can just remember finishing listening to the Dirty Deeds album when I was 12, and silently getting up, taking my CD case and throwing it away. I never regretted it or thought twice. This was MY band, and that album was life-changing for me.

  16. We need more of this from chick...were is she? Right here, dude. I'm in the YBG's new Warm Weather Bureau, which consists of a rickety houseboat with "borrowed" wi-fi. There's been a story in these parts that Rushgoober may have escaped down south, so we're following that right now.

I agree. to build on that point, and not to thread-jack, but it's one of the reasons why an outfit like dream theater doesn't work to well. In going through they're work again. While there's brilliance sure. a lot of it self masturbatory Chaos, lol I love that Rush went pop a while. Mick

  26. Yep, this. Back in the pre-early internet '90s, excitedly driving to the record store to get the new CD, see the cover-art for the first time, struggle to open the packaging without snapping the plastic casing, looking at the shiny no-fingerprints or scratches yet CD, playing it and taking in all the songs in for the very first time. No spoilers, no message boards, maybe if heard one of the songs on FM radio I might have some idea of what I'm going to hear. I remember very clearly sitting in my parents living room taping on cassette the radio premere of Counterparts. I still have it somewhere. The first song played was Between Sun and Moon which I assumed was going to be the first song on the album.

  27. when I was first getting into Rush and a friend made me a mix tape with the ATWAS version of 2112/temples, I thought he was singing "We've taken care of everything, the words you eat, the songs you sing....." and later... "Never need to work or have a wife...." which seemed to make sense within the storyline I was trying to follow. I may have already pointed this out but in the studio cut of Working Man the way Geddy enunciates the final verse sounds like "Well I get up at seven-YAY and I go to work at nine... and then "well they call me the working MAY-AAID! I guess that's what I am...."

  31. By that same token, aren't Kiss THE representative band of the Glam Rock genre? If you pick anyone for that you should probably pick David Bowie or T.Rex. Just because Kiss were/are theatrical doesn't equate to them being THE glam rock representatives Yeah. I made an argument I don't necessarily agree with. T-Rex had probably the most quintessential glam sound, but their stardom faded quickly. Bowie is a mega-star, but it's because he was more than glam. Kiss deserves to be in the "best glam" conversation, though they were later also metal. And, is this where Queen lives? If so, I give them the glam crown.

  32. Reading this thread it's very interesting to read the Slams on pop music and melodies. I am not putting anybody down it's just interesting. I love complex stuff as much as anyone. But if a pop tune catches my ear.......i'm there. I'm so there, lol. As i said....just an observation When Rush attempted pop. I respected them more as a band. Just my view. Mick

  35. My son made my day. We went to the gym this morning. On the way home we came to a light at a busy intersection. It was obvious that whomever was at the front of the line waiting at the red light was broken down. The cars in front of us were all going around that car. My son was driving when we got near to the broken down van. A lady got out of the passenger side and was beginning to attempt to push the van out of traffic to a safer location. My son didn't appear to even think about it. He put our car in park, instructed me to get in the drivers seat and jumped out and proceeded to push the now 2 ladies van to a safe place. He jumped back in our car before the light turned green. Maybe my wife and I did something right along the way...... :)

  36. Congrats, Congrats! I've lost 17 lbs since October. I am finally back down to the weight I was when I got pregnant (that was 22 years ago), and am really trying harder than I ever have. Now to make it through the Christmas season without blowing it. Every Christmas in the past I pack it on, BUT NOT THIS YEAR!!! 2 weeks ago today the holiday socializing/eating began for me. I indulged but reduced my intake. Also, I kept going to the gym and ate lots of fruit/veggies on days where there weren't parties. Weighed myself this morning and am only up 2 pounds. This is major victory for me. In past years, I was up at least 10 pounds and discouraged come Jan. 1.

  38. Yesterday my son and I skated at Fenway Park, where BC will be hosting Notre Dame Saturday night. I wish instead of hours of "ice time" my kids got to experience pond hockey now and then. The day before my kids skated with Pat Patriot. Yesterday my son skated with Wally the Green Monster. When I come back I want to be my kids.

  41. Kiss was serioulsy unserious. Personally, I love listening to the 1970's albums. They always put a smile on my face and make me tap my foot. And from time to time there is a legitimately great song.

Just because Kiss were/are theatrical doesn't equate to them being THE glam rock representatives There is definitely and glam rock element to Kiss. They took all the fame and popularity from the New York Dolls, while the New York Dolls took all the critical acclaim from Kiss. Paul Stanley is very satisfied.
