  1. I love being able to have a professionally filmed and recorded DVD and live CD for each tour. I love the DVDs because these tours mean a great deal to me, and every time I watch the DVD it reminds me of great moments I had at gigs on the tour, and of the wonderful feeling of being among people who understand why my face looks like that. I love the CDs because I love the modern Rush sound and, especially on the material from Power Windows forward, much prefer the recent live renditions of these songs to the original studio recordings or previous live versions. Bootlegs are fun but they just don't really sound good enough to blast through the house on a chore-filled Saturday morning or to sweep me joyfully along the highway during a road trip in precisely the same way that Alex's bright, chiming riffs joyfully sweep the verses of The Spirit Of Radio into the choruses and breaks. Call me a sucker, but I am happy to give Rush my money in exchange for this rich resource

  2. Personally can't wait to pick up the DVD. Going to the concerts on their tours are really an experience and the DVDs memorialize that. It's a moment in time we will never get back. Watching stuff on YouTube is alright for some things but I want to support these guys for their hard work. They've had a huge positive impact on my life. It's hard enough for musicians to make a living nowadays with all the free filesharing and ripping their music.

  6. I love this time of year! Sept-Dec = heaven. I love the crisp, cool weather, the smell in the air, the leaves changing colors, fires in the fireplace, comfort food morning, noon and night, lounging around in comfy sweatpants and big sweatshirts, and watching college football on Saturdays (Go Blue!).

  8. I love the Atwas intro he did. It sounded so genuinely enthusiastic and positive. Subconciously, I always felt like this show was a celebration of sorts, and that this concert symbolized that Rush had made it and were truly destined for greatness. I was just thinking how wonderful it would be if Rush played that clip of Skip from Atwas at the beginning of their concert, next tour.... And then barrel into Bastille day? And, btw, they're truly at home in any city with their fans present with them.

  9. My oldest (7) drew a picture for my youngest (4) that said, "I LOVE YOU!" and drew him and brother playing a game with huge smiles on their faces. Totally melted my heart. And made me temporarily forget about how they got into a fight the other day (over a game piece!) which left my youngest with a nice purple goose egg in the middle of this forehead.

  11. I've been thinking about it, and I don't think I'd ever want to meet the band. Sure, if I happened to run into one of them it'd be cool. I think the only way I would ever be able to talk to Neil without him being put off is if I happened to run into him organically in some random situation and was friendly for awhile before ever mentioning I knew who he was. If I came across Geddy or Neil at a restaurant or something, and the situation presented itself and it didn't seem like it would be obnoxious or inconveinent for them and the timing seemed right, I might say hello, that I'm a big fan, thank them for what they do, etc. I don't ever expect that to happen, however. A situation like a meet and greet just seems awkward and contrived to me. If someone gave me a free ticket to a meet and greet, would I go? Maybe. If I could sell it though and make some decent money off it, I'd rather have someone else go who really cared to meet them. Or if I couldn't sell it I'd still rather give it to someone who it was meaningful to meet them. I love their music, and while I respect them as people and they seem like good guys, I don't necessarily feel like I have much in common with them other than a shared love of a similar kind of music and an appreciation of humor. Then again, I don't know if there's anyone in the world that I haven't met that I particularly want to meet. I wouldn't have minded meeting Florian Fricke, the main person from the music group Popol Vuh, before he died, but at least I got to write a long article about his music and was appreciated by his wife and son for doing so. That was nice. Other than that, the people who are the most important to me personally I already know. I'm not saying I wouldn't mind meeting lots of cool people and being friends with a lot more people in my life, but famous people - meh, not necessary.

  13. Why do we feel compelled to share our private thoughts and feelings on an open forum? It's not cathartic, or a cry for help, it's a cry for attention.

  16. My 20-year old niece moved in today, and she brought her year-old blue-grey feline with her....or so she claimed. We couldn't find the cat ANYWHERE. We searched every nook and cranny in the house, upstairs and downstairs.....and there was NO CAT. I was lifting up furniture, using a flashlight.....found nothin'. We started thinking that she got outside somehow...... So I'm watching the Brewer game, thinking that my niece is almost in tears because her cat is gone, and lo and behold, the damned feline just meanders by my chair, checking me out. WHAT IS IT WITH YOU DAMNED CREATURES??!! DO YOU HAVE CLOAKING DEVICES??!! YOU HAD BETTER TELL ME WHERE YOU WERE HIDING!!!! :laughing guy:

  17. We had a door replaced in our home today- door, frame, trim, everything. But my wife and I were both at work, and my father-in-law was the one who stayed there while he work was being done...anyway, the WRONG door was replaced. And when I found this out and challenged them on it, I had to spend about an hour on the phone with these goons, who were trying to convince me that it wasn't the installer's fault. I persuaded them the best I could, and we did come to a resolution, but my blood was just boiling.. And then...this isn't something that pissed me off, but it was indescribably stressful and terrible, for awhile. I found out that literally while I was having that discussion with those idiots, there was a bomb threat at my sons' school. They were evacuated and dismissed a couple of hours early...and so what if it was a hoax, and the building was cleared after about five hours...the real cost of a situation like that, when no one was physically harmed in the least, is having to explain to my first grader and my fourth grader that there are people who do actually do things like that? Who pays the price for that erosion of security, or peace of mind, or whatever you want to call it? Yeah...some people piss me off sometimes. Today was crap, in that respect. But hey...my kids are perfectly fine, and just as happy as always, and it was a perfectly normal Friday night at home. So things aren't bad at all.

  36. The only place I would feel comfortable meeting Neil is on a hiking.trail and then I would probably only talk to him about travelling. I don't know anything about making music so I would have to avoid the subject. I don't care about autographs and acting stupid around people. Chasing famous people is silly. I don't even know if I would want to talk politics with Neil. What if he's not a Libertarian like he seems to be? If he was for the Dems or Reps we would disagree. A few weeks ago I took my brother to the Iron Maiden show in Raleigh. He kept hollering about meeting the guys at Lizard Lick Towing, his favorite show. I told him that they would say they.were out and he wouldn't meet them. When we got there, sure enough, they gave him the stock answer. He acted disappointed the whole way home. I kept telling him to try to think about it from their angle, and how they'd never get anything accomplished if they met fans all day. He couldn't understand. I certainly do. It's insane to go around chasing strangers. And then, what if they're having a bad day, and say something rude. you would take it personally. I know a guy who hates Phil Mickleson's guts because he tried to get an autograph during the round of golf when the sign clearly said that the golfers would gather at a particular place at a particular time to sign autographs. To this day, this guy will look for stories in the news where someone complained that Phil didn't sign his autograph. Give me a break! I think it's better to enjoy the fruits of their labor than to meet them and be disappointed. I bet you love driving your car, but you probably wouldn't get along with half the people at the assembly factory.

  38. I know surprisingly little about my own family, but I was told that one of my relatives was a real Dr. Livingstone kind of guy. It's from him my family has a Domino game made of ivory. He started out as a gold digger in Klondyke and was one of the first in Denmark to drive around in a Ford T. My grandmother has a photo album with pictures from around the world he has been.

  39. It's still my favorite album by Rush. I also bought it the day of release and I got it on vinyl. I've since bought the CD however. Two weeks prior to the release WRDU Classic Rock radio station in Raleigh was previewing four songs - Force Ten, Time Stand Still, Mission, and Turn the page were the songs that were played to promote it with Force Ten and Time Stand Still getting the most spins. The album has always symbolized a change in life or rite of passage. Having just graduated from high school, "Turn the Page" became a very important song that reminded me that we often move past certain relationships and on to new ones. And then the concert in January 1988 in Raleigh still ranks as my fave Rush show. Meeting the caterers cooking dinner among the tour buses to hanging with a lot of fans outside Reynolds Coliseum for the band to exit. Very inspirational show. edit: just some more memories. I remember all the red balloons falling from the ceiling. But before that happened, many fans were looking up waiting them to fall. Geddy said, "why are you looking up there, we're over here!" But in a funny way, not upset or anything. A few days before the concert, we'd had an ice or snow storm come through. I distinctly remember the sun going down creating a brilliant light on the ice hanging from the trees on campus. It certainly created a pleasant atmosphere.

  41. Okay some of what pissed me off today doesn't necessarily belong to this part of the board, so I'll try to restrain myself here... I guess with every conflict in the middle east and the probability of war, certain religious nut-jobs come out. Today I heard a radio interview with a muslim extremist (mind you that I'm not being prejudiced against ethnicity, but stupidity alone) who have put videos on Youtube shooting at pictures at prominent politicians in Denmark and coming with death threats. When asked by the interviewer if he actually knew what he was saying on radio, he suddenly downplayed the whole thing. He talked about how he wanted to be a martyr and how the word of the Quran was above every other law. Let me clarify that I'm not pissed because of the Quran or that he is a muslim, I'm pissed at the disregard he shows toward those who doesn't share his own narrow minded, darkened sociopathic interpretation of his religion. Goddamnit!

There's one picture where you are looking back and you have a hat on and your beautiful hair is hanging down beneath the cap and you have a beard... I didn't want to comment on how absolutely hot you look in some of your photos. I really shouldn't say it here either. You are one handsome man! :finbar:  Oh.
