here's a topic: AMAZING second albums

Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Led Zeppelin - II

Nirvana - Nevermind

Iron Maiden - Killers

Def Leppard - High N Dry

Guns N Roses - Use Your Illusion I & II

Ozzy - Diary of a Madman (if you accept that it was supposed to be a band called The Blizzard of Oz)

Just completely off the top of my head

The Police - Regatta de Blanc (I cheated and read the first page, and saw goose's reference to Outlandos)

amazing sixth albums?

AC/DC - Back in Black (I'm guessing now, but I think I'm right)

yeah I moved on up to ninth from sixth because, when you really think about it, there's physical graffiti, sabotage, hemispheres, plenty of obvious great 6th albums

Second albums by bands tend to be superb while the debut mediocre (namely production wise), since the band presumably was composed of studio virgins.

Examples:

Rush vs Fly By Night

Yes vs Time and a Word

No Answer vs ELO 2

It's #7, (not including live).

High Voltage

TNT

Dirty Deeds

Let There Be Rock

Powerage

Highway to Hell

Makes me compare AC/DC to RUSH in terms of strings of seminal albums.

I saw people break away and name 3rd and forth albums so.....why not.

Prince-Dirty Mind.

He had 2 albums prior......but they don't exist to me. Dirty mind is where the Prince we know emerged. This to me is his true debut......Don't care, lol

I don't think there's a set rule about it either way
