Was thinking about Alex's playing and thought it would be fun to compile my 10 favorite Lifeson solos. I pulled these from the top of my head and didn't listen to or look up anything as I wanted it to be organic. Here they are:

Working Man

La Villa Strangiato

Freewill

The Analog Kid

The Weapon

Kid Gloves

Between the Wheels

Emotion Detector

The Garden

Anesthetize

What are yours?

Glad you said ten but i could say more.Red Barchetta,Between the Wheels,Marathon,Limelight,Avaidable Light,La Villa,Bravado,Red Sector A,Earthshine(remix),Working Man,Nobody's........ :gumby: :gumby: :gumby: blast, too many ,I could go on.I believe there was a definite change in his style and sound from Grace Under Pressure on.His solo seem to be more thought out and constructed whereas Analogue Kid ,a let's just go for it type of solo,is the last of it's type. This seems to be the cut off point for a lot of old school fans too,it wasn't just the synths,Alex threw away the Marshalls, started wearing power suits and got a 'fashoinable' haircut.I love every era of Rush but I find his eighties work the most inventive and motive. Same exact list from me too. But to be honest, Alex has never played a bad studio solo.

Wow. Isnt it amazing how great his solos were on the albums where he felt creatively marginalized??

Anesthetize

?

He guested on a Porcupine Tree song. One of his best solo's, especially in the 21st century

That's true. That's a GREAT FUKKING SOLO! That one blew my mind.

I'm an Alex solo whore.

I love them all.

So to be honest I will tell you my NUMBER ONE ALEX SOLO!!!!

"BETWEEN THE WHEELS"

It moves me for some reason. I can't explain it. It's beautiful.

Also it's one of my favorite songs to play to on the drums. It just pumps me up!!!!

The hi hat accents to the ride cymbal during the solo makes me want to explode. God, and the ride to china boy parts just get me all worked up.

I always end my drum practice with "Between The Wheels" because it gets me so jazzed. Also it's the last track on the album so my iPhone stops.

Hence I go into a drum solo before I end my session.

Not bad for a guy who can't find a fukking good band.

Oh well.

Can't find a good band or a good woman. I'm in one hell of a rut.

"RAMBLE ON!"

La Villa, clearly the best Big Al solo in history. Then, Freewill... anyone out there is welcome to fill in my last eight Big Al solos because it would be too hard on my brain gravy to attempt such a task all on my own...

Seriously, has the man ever played a bad solo? In fact, considering his longetivity and relative activity, he could be considered one of the most prolific soloists in rock history.
