TheAccountant
Geddy sounds good for what he is at the moment. Much better than the last tour all the way round. Truth. Agreed. Plus to my ears he sounded better on the CA tour than he did on the TMT. So, put another way, he sounded better on R40 than he has since at least the 1st leg of S&A.
Eel Yddeg
Honestly, Geddy's voice is much better in this release than 10-15 years ago.His tone sounded way too thin and unnatural in the 2002-2004 period, as well as on the Test For Echo tour. SNA had him use a better, thicker tone, with the yodeling as a side effect. His 2010-now voice is much better than his 1996-2004 voice. The only songs that really sound worse now than back then are Subdivisions, Temples, and One Little Victory. TheAccountant
I've only seen the clips they've released to YouTube and a couple of phone videos from concerts but I personally think ged sounds great on the videos I've seen, especially in comparison to the CA tour. They are my three favourite musicians and I respect Alex and Neil all the more because of their almost perfect playing if complex songs with their conditions. And Neil for doing it with passion even though he would rather spend time with his family. And BTW I'm probably one of the youngest members here :) Well put and agreed. I was not able to see R40 in person and I really regret it. Although I thought he was better on CA than on the TMT I figured time would have continued to catch up with him and his vocals so my reaction was that I would by the CD & DVD and enjoy all the Rush shows I had seen. It would seem was very wrong. Best he has been since S & A tour. Great points about Alex & Neil.
TheAccountant
While I don't think there needed to be a whole new thread created about this, Mindcore, I do agree with you. Many people on here are so critical of Geddy's voice because it doesn't sound like what it did in 1978. Give me a break. People age. Now, am I saying you have to love everything Rush has ever done? No. But if you're complaining about Geddy's voice on every thread you get the chance, do us all a favor and please shut up. And while I have the opportunity, let me just point out that if you don't like anything Rush has done since 1982, you're not a true fan. The reason I'm saying this is because I'm noticing that those are the people who are complaining about Geddy's voice the most. That's fine, go listen to All the World's a Stage (their worst live album, by the way) and kindly leave us true fans to appreciate how good Geddy sounds for a man his age. ATWAS - their worst live album???? Really?? I would give that title to ESL. To me ATWAS is one of their very best live albums. Other than that I agree with a lot of what you said - and keep in mind that I have had great concerns over the state of Geddy's voice in recent years - although, as I have said elsewhere, I felt that it was better on CA than on the TMT (plus, as has been said elsewhere, Geddy also still plays a great bass). TheAccountant
I always use Spotify while doing homework and because most of the songs it chooses are from the Clockwork Angels tour (their shuffle system isn't very good), I've grown to not really mind his voice then, despite it having been as bad as it was. I understand they're all aging, and hey, I don't even care, they're still legends! Not all of us younger folk are oblivious, I just hope those who don't understand consider how hard it can be to be doing this for 40 years. Thanks and well put. 100% agree. They don't sound live at all, and much better than the two bootlegs from the tour.

Thunder Bay Rush
I watched R40 again last night for the first time in a few months... and it is a great concert video. Just seeing Ben Mink playing Losing It with the guys was worth the whole thing to me... Yes, there are a few things that I didn't love, but how could there NOT be? Everyone has different tastes... just the fact that these guys are in their 60s and still ROCK... is amazing to me. Stop your goddam complaining and just be happy that you even know who or what Rush is.

Rush live is awesome in the 21st century. In 2015, the ground starts to become unstable.

Pound of Obscure
I haven't been on here in ages but finally had some free time to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon perusing the Internet and return to this forum. I can't believe the bashing that is going on about Geddy's vocals on the tour and (in particular) the DVD/Blu-ray. I thought people on here were fans. Obviously (I think) the ones that are complaining are too young to understand aging. Yes, I too have noticed that Geddy no longer has that range of his youth, but he still "sounds like" himself! Trust me, I've seen every tour since AFTK and even in the 80's I noticed differences in his range from the 70's songs that were still in rotation. Part of it was growing as a vocalist and the fact that he did start taking vocal lessons and instead of "screaming" parts he was actually singing them! I was at the second Toronto show and Ben Mink and the band doing Losing It for the first time ever live was the pinnacle! Why is nobody focusing on the extremely great musicianship of these 3 in their mid 60's and can pull off some of the most complex compositions that they admit were difficult when they first recorded them (Hemispheres)? They put musicians a third of their age to shame!!!! I thought the people on this forum were true fans (and understanding human beings). I guess I was wrong. I wish I could do the things I could 30-40 years ago but I can't (and, for the older members, I'm sure you can't either). Why do you expect them to do the same? For you younger members, you'll understand when you get to my age (50). Peace out. Rush is still the greatest Rock band in my opinion and I thank them for 40 wonderful years of music. They owe me (or anyone else) NOTHING! My only complaint about R40 is that it's over and that Rush has no idea at all anymore how to record themselves. Live or studio, they are clueless. How did that happen?

Slack jaw gaze
I think since their final tour ended the fan base is intwo different camps, both a bit angry. One, the fans that are unhappy at Neils solo abrupt decision to retire, and second, those that will be loyal to Neil no matter what, and bottle up their frustrations by not admitting they are not happy with the end. Sad that the once positive consensus during the tour and periscope parties has faded. The people who hate Neil, and the ones who won't admit they hate Neil.

How did that happen?Yes. I saw R40 in St. Louis...so relatively close to the beginning of the tour (4th show in)...flawless. Seriously. I hadn't heard Geddy sound like that in years, and all of them sounded just excellent. So, with this as my experience I really looked forward to the concert coming out on disc, so I could own it and additionally get one for my sister who was unable to attend any concerts for this tour. I was so disappointed when I heard the sound quality R40 live...just deplorable. Glad I didn't buy it. They used to know how to record a live concert, what happened?! Listen to ESL or All the Worlds a stage and the sound quality is excellent...even up to A Show of Hands it is! R40 live is rendered almost unlistenable it's so bad. The mixing is so off and off putting. The last live album I got was S & A and even that was nowhere as bad as R40. So disppointing for such an excellent concert.
