All right. I'm calling some of you guys out . . .

Like it or not, Tom Sawyer is an amazing tune. It's the reason that we all own Counterparts, but chances are the person next to you at the coffee shop, if he or she is a rock fan, owns Moving Pictures.

It IS an amazing tune and I never tire of hearing it. The fact that it was Tom Sawyer that finally moved me to buy a Rush album back in the Stone Age, and if it wasn't for Tom Sawyer I wouldn't be here (in which case those of you who despise the song may just despise it all the more on account of that  ), makes the song more special to me. Some of Alex's best guitar work on that song too.

Let's hear it for Tom Sawyer!!!

And just so Tombstone doesn't cry, let's muster up some enthusiasm for that fine album, Clockwork Angels.

Wait so I'm just like not allowed to think that Moving Pictures isn't their best work? Or I'm not a "real fan" if I like Hold Your Fire better than Moving Pictures?

You are allowed, of course. There's no such thing as stupid answers, just stupid people.

Anyone who doesn't consider Moving Pictures to be amongst their very best work is either a contrarian or just doesn't get the band.

Or is an imbecile.

Let's have a round of applause for Signals too.

It seems appropriate that the fewest people are clapping for Signals. If you did this for Counterparts, the gif would be

Yes, I saw that you had listened to it yesterday and was wondering about that. Thought perhaps you had a change of heart.

I think I'll give it a listen today. I do like it. :)

Led, you don't like Digital Man or The Weapon? You don't like Subdivisions? You don't like Losing It?

I love Subdivisions, like Losing It, and dislike The Weapon and Digital Man.

my top 5 cause i like lists, lol

1. Hemispheres

2. HYF

3. Permanent Waves

4. Power Windows

5. Signals

Mick

1, 3 and 5 are all well within the margin of error. I might, might let 4 go by. But not 2. That does not belong in the top 19. :)

lol.......you might let 4 go by.......Well i MIGHT not need your list approval :P :D

Mick

Stick to your list, Mick!

This whole thread, to me, is a case of 'consider the source'. The OP is the same cat who called me out in another thread recently for saying that my two favourite Zeppelin albums are Led Zeppelin III and Presence (which they are, no lie).

As if a person's tastes cannot possibly be such... :sigh:

Get over yourself. If you take this stuff so seriously I pity you.

I think Moving Pictures is amazing of course, and I never get tired of hearing TS (though Limelight is a bit different from time to time). Nevertheless, I prefer Rush's madri-cal fifth album, A Farewell To Kings, to their perfect-sounding eight record simply because that's what my taste is. It's not a matter of fatigue, it's just subjective taste. Why the heck else would I have Hemisphere's below AFTK, PeW, MP, Signals, 2112, CA, PoW, and CoS?

Hold Your Fire, AFTK, MP, VT, GUP, PeW and Hems are all tens.

CoS, Presto and 2112 are nines.

I love all the big hits, minus Subdivisions.

Some fans mistake overfamiliarity with resentment.

Hold Your Fire is my favourite Rush album of all time.

But that is because it, well, just is. Why should I feel inclined to love staple Rush classics more just because they are deservedly well known? I love Rush, and I would rank even Presto on a good day above Hems and 2112, and some days the only Rush album I care for is Caress Of Steel.

What's the big deal? Are you just upset because you conform to the standard Rush fan cliché?
