geezer Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I've noticed at MSG that the recorded music played before the show belong just to three bands: The Who, Jethro Tull and Genesis. Was the same at other shows? And do you think every member of the band chose one? 1
Bigbobby10 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I think i got some Led Zeppelin and what you said at my show 1
edm2112 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 They played Time by Pink Floyd at least once in New Orleans 2
LakesideShark Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I heard a couple Yes songs in Tampa and Supertramp's "Fool's Overture". 1
custom55 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I asked the same in another thread. Someone said that they read somewhere ( Rolling Stone mag ?) that Neil selects the music. Yeah, MSG selection was awesome. The Who - Young Man Blues from Live at Leeds !!! 1
Mad Bowl Hoo Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Lots of early (including pre-Howe) Yes and Genesis at the Bristow show.
Stan Getz Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Neil's discussed in one of his books that he puts a lot of thought (no surprise) and enjoys selecting the music for the pre-show so he more or less owns the task; the pre-show music at Newark was excellent :) 2
Hemisteers Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Wow, I assumed the venue did it. Shows what I know!
Disembodied Spirit Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 New Orleans played Aqualung twice. I was in the building at 630 1
Weakly Criminal Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 In Dallas we got much the same pre-show music as the last tour. I wonder if Neil picks different songs for different venues?

Grover Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Same mix used in Toronto last tour and this tour, add Carry on Wayward Son by Kansas. 1
geezer Posted July 2, 2015 Author Posted July 2, 2015 I honestly don't remember what was 'broadcasted' in the last tour but it seems they used a slightly different 'set' for R40 during various dates.Maybe someone was at MSG before me and can add further information.
PolarizeMe Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Swore I heard some Yes at the MSG show, or maybe that's just my mind playing tricks with me considering I listened to Close To The Edge earlier that day.
Union 5-3992 Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 (edited) I heard Tommy Overture by The Who in Buffalo. That one got me pumped for the show because I was even air drumming to that Edited July 2, 2015 by Union 5-3992
LedRush Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I think i got some Led Zeppelin and what you said at my show In Boston they played Good Times, Bad Times. Also, Neil is responsible for the songs played preshow.
EagleMoon Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 It kind of makes me wonder how long the preshow soundtrack is. I've heard a lot of the same songs over the past five years or so but they don't always seem to be in the same order. Maybe they just put it on shuffle for each show.
GabesCavesOfIce Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 There's always been Ethel: "Jacob, wake up! You've got to tidy your room now." Played three of four shows, within ten minutes of show time
Empty Mindless Spectre Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I'm really surprised that Neil would put together a playlist that caters so well to my tastes, given that our tastes seem to vary so greatly when it comes to Rush songs. It really is a great selection of songs. I'd say my favorite in terms of setting my mood for a Rush concert was Spanish Castle Magic, which was appropriately usually played very close to the start of the show.
greg2112 Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 The music at msg was fantastic. was flipping at all the tull and genesis, esp watcher. perfect prep for the big show.
