At any given moment the five bands I currently favor most might change, but the five bands which have meant more to me than any others over the years are The Beatles, Wire, Radiohead, Rush and Led Zeppelin.

The bands that are right behind these, and on another day I might have included in place of either Rush or Zeppelin (Beatles, Wire and Radiohead are set in stone) would be The Jazz Butcher Conspiracy, The Wedding Present/Cinerama, or The Church (still going strong). Hard to displace Rush or Zeppelin but these come close. Then of course are the twenty or so bands I really really love, but that's a different question.

With their latest release, their (hard to believe) 24th LP -- Further Deeper -- The Church has turned my holy trinity of Beatles/Wire/Radiohead into the terrifically titanic tetrad of The Beatles/Wire/Radiohead/The Church, which means that either LZ or Rush has to slip out of the top five. Can't make that call. '90s Rush makes me think Rush has to go behind LZ, but ATWAS through MP is so amazing that I'm not able to do that. So, my indecisive list of top five is:

The Beatles

Wire

Radiohead

The Church

Rush/Led Zeppelin (tied for fifth)

BTW, 2014's Further Deeper is so d*mn good it hurts. It's with Dark Side of the Moon, Rust Never Sleeps, Abbey Road, etc. It's a two bottle of wine with headphones album, up there with any other. Have the two LP edition in addition to the CD just because I like to look at it (since moving haven't set up my turntable).

I think these three bands are incredible, and after ten years of being a fan, I am still obsessed with everything they do:

Lacuna Coil

Nightwish

Within Temptation

And as for the other two, right now, it seems clear to me that it's Toto and Alter Bridge.

I didn't count Springsteen as I just want to highlight bands (yes, yes I am aware of the E Street Band).

Right now:

Bruce Springsteen

Lacuna Coil

Nightwish

Within Temptation

Dream Theater

I think the first four are pretty much permanent now after ten years haha! And if I swap, and I will swap, Dream Theater for any band, have no doubt about it: it will be for Toto or Paradise Lost.

Heres what has been sustaining me the majority of my adult life

Rush

Floyd

Zappa

Peter Hammill/VDGG

Genesis

Yes

Jethro Tull

Iron Maiden

King Crimson

The Beatles

Anyone of these outside my constant top 3 could be in my top 5 at any given time. Even that was tough to narrow down.
