J2112YYZ
If Di'Anno remained Maiden's singer, I don't think they would still be around today. If they were, they certainly wouldn't be the most popular metal band in the world next to Metallica. I was never a big fan of his voice but it fit well with the material on their first two albums. I only knew Maiden with Bruce when I first got into them, so imagine my surprise when I got the cassette of Killers from a friend of mine and didn't hear the mighty Bruce Dickinson on vocals? This was in the early 90s, so the internet wasn't in everyone's home yet and there wasn't really anyway for me to know there was a singer before Bruce unless someone told me. For a lot of years after that I didn't care for Killers because of how disappointed I was to hear there was someone else other than Bruce on vocals. I never listened to it because of that reason. As time went on, I gave the album a chance again and I do like it now. But their first two albums still rank at the bottom of the list for me because the material with Dickinson just blows that stuff away both musically and lyrically. Mithrandir
First two albums are excellent. I much prefer them to the Dickinson albums, although those are pretty damn good too.
J2112YYZ
It just boggles my mind that anyone can prefer the first two albums over the Dickinson stuff. That is something I will never be able to wrap my head around. I guess some people like their Maiden to just be good rather than great.

But then again, I heard Nightwish first. Now that IS opera.

Phantom Of The Opera's up there with the classic post-TNOTB songs IMO.

Justin Case
Of course Bruce isn't an opera singer any more than Paul is punk rock. But there's a whole lot to be said for the raw energy and power of those first 2 albums...and to some that means a whole lot more than what came later. FUKK YES! Paul might have flamed out quick but for my ears the first two Maiden albums are BEYOND THE REALMS OF DEATH!!!! Two perfect albums. As you know I'm a "Piece Of Mind" guy next. I Think "Number Of The Beast" is great but for me it was too overplayed. I love "The Prisoner" but man MTV killed this album for me. I would say that "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" is my fourth favorite album. "KILLERS""IRON MAIDEN""PIECE OF MIND""SEVENTH SON" Top 4

Rod in Toronto
These days my favorite Maiden album is probably Somewhere in Time. I wish they played a few more tracks from it. Edited April 10, 2015 by Rod in Rio

It's my favorite as well. Too bad that they only play Wasted Years and Heaven Can Wait. Would love to see then bust out Alexander The Great, Stranger In A Strange Land or Caught Somewhere In Time (according to Rod Smallwood they'll never play CSIT live again cause it didn't really work live.) I honestly thought them not playing Infinite Dreams on the Maiden England Tour was a HUGE missed opportunity. Justin Case
I feel like we kinda got screwed out of at least Stranger In A Strange Land on the Somewhere Back In Time 2008 tour because they chose to include a few Seventh Son songs. IMO they should have placed the cutoff at SIT...especially considering the Maiden England tour which came just a few years later. No comment on the inclusion of FOTD (which is a great song, especially live, but didn't really fit the theme of the tour). Awesome shows nonetheless, but if I had my druthers it would have basically been Live After Death with 3-4 SIT songs added :codger:
geezer
Maiden live have the great bands' bad luck: too many good / great songs to be played in two hours.
Rod in Toronto
I agree Geezer. I just wish they gave a few songs a rest, like The Trooper, Wrathchild, Hallowed be They Name and Fear of The Dark.
Justin Case
They've been doing a pretty good job, though, by doing retro tours (History, SBIT, ME) sandwiched between tours of basically all new stuff (Matter of Life & Death, Final Frontier). Based on that, we should expect A LOT of =>2000 material next time out.

They gave Hallowed a rest on the last tour. I think that's one of the standards that should never be dropped though. But since they played songs like Moonchild, The Prisoner, Seventh Son, Aces High, Clairvoyant and Phantom Of The Opera, I can let it slide that Hallowed wasn't played. Wrathchild wasn't played on their 2012 North American tour either. Edited April 10, 2015 by J2112YYZ

Also, Wrathchild was omitted in the US in 2008, 2009, 2011 & 2013 (not sure about Euro shows). The Trooper was omitted in 2010 & 2011.
Turbine Freight
I still prefer the DiAnno albums but Dickinson made Maiden less of a pub metal band & more of an arena rock act. I really like Dance Of Death & Brave New World. Final Frontier was good too. Love Maiden.
